  1. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 26, 2005 -> 04:08 PM) I thought this would be a good time to see what wagers, if any, people placed before (or even during) the season in regards to the Sox' fortunes. I put $20 on the Sox in Vegas in February to win the WS. I got 30-1 at that time. Thought it was a long shot, but what the heck? Still have the ticket, stuck to the fridge! Anyone else standing to gain or lose? Any unique or non-monetary wagers? Bets with friends who are Cub fans? I have a standing bet with a friend...whoever has the best record gets $10. I think she should give me another $10 if we win the WS.
  2. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Oct 26, 2005 -> 11:34 AM) ITS A WHITE SOX WINNER ON A TIMO SLAM IN THE NINTH! C'MON TIMO!!! C'MON TIMO!!! C'MON TIMO!!!
  3. I'll be at Plucker's in North Austin with a Cub fan who's father is a Sox fan and about 200 Astros fans. I'll be armed with my 1983 Cooperstown cap that I've worn for every game of the postseason and my stolen Guest Services Representative shirt from Comiskey Park. Oh boy, this is gonna be fun!!!
  4. QUOTE(Wedge @ Oct 26, 2005 -> 09:59 AM) It sure beats the ex's who are Astros, Twins, and Indians fans... You beat your ex-girlfriends? Ohhhhh, I get it.
  5. Being in Austin, there aren't a lot of Sox fans, so I'm taking any bandwagon jumpers I can. I was out with three Cub fans on Saturday. Two Red Sox fans during the CS. And a Yankees fan during the DS. Ich, after the World Series is over, I'm gonna have to take a shower. I feel dirty.
  6. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Oct 26, 2005 -> 09:45 AM) And the weird thing is, he's not really a patient hitter at all. He only had 23 walks during the whole regular season. I think that's been a real big reason why we've scored a lot of runs, especially during this series. Our hitters are being a lot more patient at the plate, they're not swinging at the 1st pitch (well except for Konerko ) and it's paying dividends. That's exactly what I was thinking. Hitters are being patient and pitchers are jumping on top of hitters 0-1. The two biggest keys to any winning team! Holy crap! One to go!
  7. QUOTE(Steff @ Oct 25, 2005 -> 04:23 PM) Jerry's got something on Bud... Just don't ask what that "something" is. Ewwwww...
  8. QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 25, 2005 -> 03:39 PM) I don't see the connection. I could see that as justification to close the roof, not to require it open. For example, if a rain out would allow their top starter to play the next day, and the team insisted on the roof open, I could see mlb jumping in and requesting it be closed. I can't see them ordering it open. If the roof jammed closed, would they cancel the game? The Astros were allowed to build this park with the funky dimensions and a retractable roof. Teams are allowed to change their parks dimensions by installing temporary walls and shortening the field. The Astros have a hill and flagpole in play in center field. If mlb allows all that on a local level, why should they then step in a require the roof be closed? With the roof closed they are assured perfect "weather" for the game. Plus, I don't want to give nay sayers any more ammo. You can't remove Tal's Hill. You can't move back the short porch in left. You CAN open the roof. Is it an unfair advantage that the Sox DON'T have a retractable roof? And screw the naysayers. If you can't win in your own park because of a roof, then you are relying on the wrong things.
  9. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 25, 2005 -> 03:29 PM) If MLB gets to determine if games get cancelled during the fall, they have every right to determine whether or not a roof should be open. Good point.
  10. QUOTE(Steff @ Oct 25, 2005 -> 03:23 PM) I agree he'll likely not be here next year.. but could you have a little more respect for your fellow teammates and finish this years job first..? Someone asked him the question and he answered it. It's not about finishing the job. That's like someone asking you in the middle of a huuuuge project, so, if Company X came and offered you 3x your salary, would you take it? Of course you would...you wouldn't say, nope, gotta finish this project first. Would you? I know what you are saying, but it's not as though Paulie was saying...I would LOVE to play for the Red Sox next year. Just, I'm gonna listen to what they have to say.
  11. It SHOULD be the Astros call. They built the stadium, they play in the stadium. BUT, and that's a BIG BUT, I agree with Black Betsy...baseball is meant to be played outdoors when the weather is nice. One more thing: The White Sox play 9 or 10 games a year at the Rollerdome. Which, so I've heard, can get pretty loud. Especially when they are handing us our taints, which has happened in the past. I can't imagine the Sox are going to be intimidated by some noise.
  12. QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ Oct 25, 2005 -> 02:33 PM) Blum has 8 ABs off Oswalt...Pods has 23 and AJ 8. Blum also played with Oswalt for 2 years. could have given him some insider info on that fastball.
  13. So my question is...since he didn't do much in the regular season...does Blum have any insight into Oswalt? Or any of the hitters tendencies?
  14. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 25, 2005 -> 02:09 PM) Tendencies huh? Thats actually a good idea for a thread, name other poster's tendencies, cause I dont think I have any..... You have the tendency to not have any tendencies.
  15. QUOTE(mrzo2733 @ Oct 25, 2005 -> 01:29 PM) The same thing is happening to me. I don't know what's going on. It's called guarded optimism. Just wait, IF the Sox win the World Series...you will all feel different. As will the city.
  16. Last night on Baseball Tonight Reynolds and Kruk were both defending, yes defending, the Sox. They were saying that, at full speed, it was hard to tell if it hit Dye or his bat. I know, when I saw it originally, I thought it hit him. And with all the noise, I'm sure it's hard to tell the difference between wood and bone. Also, they were saying something along the lines of...sometimes you get the breaks, sometimes you make the breaks. Reynolds was saying this. Part of the fun of baseball is that you have the opportunity to be creative. AJ running to first is one of those things. The play in the NLCS when Adam Everett put the phantom tag on Molina at 2nd and was called out. And when you get those breaks, you take advantage of them. The Sox are, the Astros are not. Qualls didn't mean to groove that pitch to Konerko, but he did. And Konerko didn't miss it. Boy, did he not miss it. That's the mark of a good team. You get the break and you take advantage. So, it was not exactly a compliment to the Sox from the BT crew, but they aren't putting any asterisks by these first two games. Well, maybe Gammons is.
  17. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Oct 25, 2005 -> 11:19 AM) Classic example of an extremely talented guy who made crap music. Perry had/has an amazing voice, could have been an opera singer, instead he made 'Oh Sherry". "The wheel in the sky" and the "loving, touching squeezing" song (if that's what they're called) are the only things I can even stomach by them. So, um NO. Journey was one of the many good operatic metal bands of the late 70's early 80's...included in that list (at least who I think should be included), Styx and Rush. Neal Schon is considered one of the better guitar players of his time and Perry's voice was awesome. I think you need to see a band live before you truly make a decision one way or the other cuz that's when the true colors come out. Journey rox. Plus, I had my first meaningful kiss during Open Arms, so I have a soft spot in my heart for Journey. And...Don't Stop Believin'.
  18. Yeah, it's called Siberia. Oh wait...too dark for you? Sorry...how about, oh, I don't know? Iceland? Too different? I think the Unabombers cabin is up for sale in Montana.
  19. Don't forget the HUUUUGE plays Rowand made in NY against the Yanks late in the year. Hot bed of voting media in the Big Apple.
  20. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 01:03 PM) "Official Brad Lidge Walk-off HR section" With an arrow pointing up.
  21. I can't wait for the Cubs-Sox series next year IF the Sox win this year. I can hear the chant rising ever so softly now... 19-08! Clap, clap, clap clap clap! 19-08! Clap, clap, clap clap clap! 19-08! Clap, clap, clap clap clap! 19-08! Clap, clap, clap clap clap! 19-08! Clap, clap, clap clap clap! 19-08! Clap, clap, clap clap clap!
  22. QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 03:53 PM) I think it's closed in the summertime because of the heat, and they want to open it because it's nice out now in Texas. Mid 70's, I think. I think it's going to be high 60's, low 70's DURING THE DAY. There is absolutely no reason it should be closed, unless it's under 50 degrees or raining, which is a possibility at night. Baseball is meant to be played outside. I went to a game last year at the Juice Box and they had the roof closed until right before the game. When they opened it, I could here a chorus and harps and it was a beautiful night. That's the way baseball should be played!!!
  23. Well, last night I was home watching the game with my Shiner Light...but Saturday...I was on Sixth Street, surrounded by Astros fans (and a couple of Cubs fans...hey, I'll take any help I can get) and cheering as loud as I could everytime something good happened!!! And when Jenks made that last out...I think they heard me on the street, cuz no one else was cheering, that's for sure. I wish I could be in the Chi...but I'm there in spirit.
