  1. Why isn't anyone thinking of Vazquez? He could be the one flipped. If there is another trade, that is. Possibly him to the O's? Or somewhere else. Just because Garland is going to get more money next year doesn't mean they don't want him on the team this year.
  2. QUOTE(G&T @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 04:28 PM) Out of curiosity, who? Sorry, meant to add a link. Possible 2006 Free Agents
  3. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 02:17 PM) If its an allegedly coming from "Al Queda". Who do we nuke. Before we detonate Nuclear weapons over a country we will need proof like nothing else. I can see it now. A B2 drops a 1 megaton nuke on Tehran. They might deserve it, however how many people would be protesting it. Protesting? So while Israel is smoldering, we start an investigation? I don't think anyone would fire nukes back at Iran for fear of killing people in nations that are trying to "democratize" (Iraq and Afghanistan come to mind), but it would be a full scale ground and air war on Iran...and I don't think too many Islamic nations would come to their aid. Hatred of Israel or not.
  4. Trevi Fountain in Rome. Anywhere in the San Francisco Area. The mouth of the Russian River. Pat o'Briens in New Orleans. Cape Cod. Anywhere in Chicago (yes, including Wrigley). Home in Austin. Whistler, BC. A craps table in Vegas. Hyde Park in London. Lincoln Park Zoo. Where else can you walk to work and see a hippopotamus on the way? On the Sound of Music Tour in Salzburg, Austria. The Sex Museum in Amsterdam (hee, hee). And...Delaware. Dover is the bomb.
  5. You know, if I'm Kenny, I'd say: "Here's the deal. Garland for Vazquez straight up. If you want us to take on the whole salary, give us a top-line prospect like Carlos Quentin or Conor Jackson. If not, we'll go to Spring Training with what we have and take our chances next off-season." There are also some marquee free agent pitchers after 2006.
  6. QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 01:09 PM) Right, it's not groundbreaking, but many pundits have argued that the Sox are the "anti-moneyball" team, when that simply isn't true. KW might not be a Billy Bean acolyte, but he isn't Bull Duram either. The Sox were built on run prevention (pitching + defense) because the market was undervaluing these skills. That is what made the Sox so efficient with their modest payroll in 2005. And the one thing they were a little iffy on, the offense, was addressed. If KW can change Anthrax' opinion, he can do anything.
  7. The only thing that is going to change perception of the White Sox is winning. We've obviously started to do that, but we need to keep doing it. Let's look at what he had and what we needed: Needed: Replacement bat for 1B in case Konerko didn't resign Had: Konerko, but we weren't sure at the time Got: Thome, but Konerko resigned, so... Needed: Power left handed bat Had: OF talent in the minors Got: Thome Needed: LH backup INF/OF and 3B backup for Crede Had: A LHRP who used up his time in Chicago but still had value Got: Mackowiak If you look at stats, injuries, fav teams, etc. you are gonna come uup with one idea. If you look at the needs of a team and those needs are fulfilled, all in all, I think the White Sox did what they set out to do. Also considering the Sox are the reigning World Series champs and one would think other teams would try to fleece them, they haven't overpaid THAT much.
  8. Gooooooldmembaaaaaa!!! Sorry, can't get that song out of my head. Happy Birthday!
  9. Happy Birthday to the future ss2k6!!!
  10. And...as the Phil Rogers article said, Mackowiak has had more RBIs than Bradley in 3 of the last 4 years. And Mack can play 6 positions. Marte for Bradley for the Sox makes no sense.
  11. Alrighty then, I think, to protect the health of the smokers that have to go outside (the best that can be done), every bar or restaurant needs to designate a smoking spot outside their places of businesses. Maybe one a block, like a bus stop. On days like you are having today, it's unfair to make someone who personally chooses to do something to force them into a hazardous situation. Smoking - choice. Forced outside in snow/cold - not a choice.
  12. You cannot compare Mackowiak to Blum. You just can't. Blum played 2B and 3B. And even some 1B if you need him to. Mackowiak plays ALL positions except SS and C. Blum is a utility guy. Mackowiak is a SUPER-utility guy. He provides backup for six positions. marte was good and may be good again. But Mackowiak is EXACTLY the kind of player Ozzie loves to use...the more positions, the better. Plus, personally, and I'm assuming KW, would trust Mackowiak to play 3B for a long stretch of time over Blum if Crede's hurt. Not to mention he's from Oak Lawn!!! Plus, if Viz can return to form, he will be knockin' lefties out at a much higher clip like he did in 2004...that is one reason the Sox picked him up.
  13. QUOTE(JimH @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 02:29 PM) Detroit has become Scott Boras' new favorite city. Maybe he should be called Dr. Detroit?
  14. DaVanon with speed > Palmeiro w/o speed. At least in Ozzie's eyes...I think he will take the speed over anything else.
  15. Absolutely great trade! Even if Marte comes back strong next year, Vizcaino can come back strong as well...and as was said before, he could be the "lefty specialist" because in 2004, he PWND lefties. Mack can play 1B, 2B, 3B, and ALL OF positions. That flexibility is equal one middle reliever who has had a down year. Could we have gotten a prospect, probably, but it would be a very low level one that would be used to fill an A or AA roster, not to make it to the big club. And as for the Thome comment earlier (I apologize, I forgot who was saying it), the Phils absolutely wanted to get rid of him, but to get $22M out of them to help pay for the salary difference, we had to add Gio and Haigwood. That's the economics. KW...you rock!!! Let's win two!
  16. We went from 70th last year to 13th this year among all sports and 26th to 5th in MLB. I know it doesn't mean much, but I'll take it!! ESPN Fan Satisfaction Rankings
  17. I was going thru the Rule V Draft Preview on Rotoworld and came across this guy: Kevin Howard This seems like exactly the kind of guy K-Dub would go for.
  18. If you've already discussed this with her, which it sounds like you have, all you can do is learn as much as you can about this religion, which it sounds like you are trying to do. If you can discuss from a knowledgeable position, that can only help. If none of that helps, absolutely go seek some counseling. It truly seems like you love her and care for her, so present it that way. You are on the right path. Do everything you can and if it doesn't work out (and I hope it does), you can at least walk away knowing you did your best and tried everything. And that is coming from someone who has been divorced and didn't feel like my ex did anything to try to keep the marriage together.
  19. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 12:44 PM) You have to understand I'm conjecturing on the basis of a belief that Marte and Ozzie can't co-exist next season. If they have buried the hachet and are willing to move on, then, no, you absolutely wouldn't do that trade. You see where I'm going with this... Yeah, I do...better to get a "cancer" off the team and get anything you can for him. I'm just saying I hope you can get a little more, a minor leaguer or something, even if they are just trying to get him moved.
  20. How about Miguel Cairo? I know he's a right-handed bat, but he's pretty steady in the field, can play everything but short and CF...AND he's Venezuelan. Plus he's only 31. Just a thought. There aren't too many LHB infielders out there. The other thought I had, is Jose Vizcaino. He can play all the infield positions and switch-hits. He'll be 38, but might not be a bad backup plan. Marte for a 3B back-up in Burroughs? I certainly hope we get someone else if that is the case.
  21. Why would anyone buy a Jenny McCarthy jersey? Maybe 55 is her bra size?
  22. Here's to you Big Frank!!! And may we all lift our back leg off the ground one more time in memory of his years playing for the White Sox.
  23. I hope Kenny passes the Kidney stone after Paulie signs the contract...it will make it easier. GO KENNY GO!!! Make "Exec of the Year" Shapiro look more like a boob!!
  24. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 05:54 PM) How about something to cover up a few feet of forehead while were at it? You can't tape her mouth shut or else you wouldn't see this:
  25. QUOTE(knightni @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 05:55 PM) BINGO http://www.cnb-scene.com/fuzzydice.html Not sure the fuzzy dice will bounce quite the same. Maybe we should call and see if she can make out of plastic. Pope-mobile Trouble by Hasbro -- now 100% Catholic free!!!
