  1. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 01:35 PM) http://www.suntimes.com/output/news/cst-nws-priest25.html Everytime the church claims they are going to stop this complete and utter breach of faith, something like this pops up again where they are attempting to cover it up without solving the problem. At some point a ballsy DA is going to charge one of the superiors in the church with conspiracy to cover up a crime, because all that keeps happening is a coverup. As long as priest do not have the right to marry someone other than God...then this ain't gonna stop. And I hate to say that, but it's true. Well, it will never stop because there are freaks out there in every walk of life, but it should definitely slow down.
  2. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 01:28 PM) You know what, though? This column hits right on the point. If the MAJORITY of Americans believe in something, STAND UP FOR IT. I TOTALLY disagree with Molly on just about every issue, but this column is DEAD ON. Say no to Hillary If this happened, at least the debate would be about issues. And that's what it is about. I just saw Vegas put odds on this actually happening. 1-4...not so good.
  3. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 09:44 AM) His best work was in 'Deceiver" with Tim Roth, anyone seen it? RIP. No offense, but that movie...SUCKED!!! *whispering* "Deceiver." PBTHTBTHTHTHTBTHTHTH...
  4. French police take 2 years to uncover time of death BREST, France (AFP) — French police who spent two years trying to identify a woman who was murdered by a blow to the head were relieved to discover the reason their efforts were failing: the woman died half a millennium ago. The skeleton of a woman in her 30s was found during an exceptionally low tide in December 2003 near the seaside Brittany town of Plouezoc'h. A long gash in the skull convinced investigators she was killed with a hatchet or other sharp implement. Police ploughed through missing persons' files to no avail. A theory that the woman was the wife of a Normandy doctor who disappeared with his family in a famous 1999 case was dismissed after DNA tests. Eventually radiocarbon dating established that the death had occurred between 1401 and 1453. "We are satisfied because at least we know the date now," said Francois Gerthosser of the Plourin-les-Morlaix police. "We reckon it was pirates." Linky
  5. If we resign him... WHERE WOULD HE PLAY?????
  6. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 10:28 PM) I know I am glad that high school is basically over and I really don't have to work during school for the rest of year. Anyone else feeling second semester senioritis? Yep...since 1989. That's right...I said 1989.
  7. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 01:24 AM) I got to see a little bit of Aldridge today, but is he supposed to be the top pick this year? Anyone that follows him more (I really don't follow the big 12 much) tell us a little more about him? I'm assuming he'd be a hell of a pick for the Bulls, but maybe I'm wrong? Aldridge definitely has skills. Here's the problem...he's slight. I heard him compared to Shaun Livingston over the weekend. Now, I don't think he's that bad, but he's a little soft. And isn't good when you are on a Rick Barnes coached team. In fact, I think everyone on the 'horns is soft with the exception of PJ Tucker and Brad Buckman. Aldridge needs another year in college to bulk up, but I don't think he's going to stay.

From what I've heard the head of Pixar will head up Animation at Disney. i think Pixar has earned the right to stay relatively independent in what they can do. And with Jobs as the majority shareholder, Pixar will be the same. As for Jobs being Chairman, I believe he has stated that he doesn't want to run a media company. Of course, that may all be grandstanding and if they offer it to him, he just may take it. I hope he does...he's got a real lust for life and all things successful. Great move by Disney.
  9. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jan 21, 2006 -> 04:30 PM) so you think we have seen the best of willie harris? many people believe that he hasn't came close to reaching his potential, me included, and as yasny rightfully said, the guy is a very talented player, its because he knows that which hinders him... Willie Harris' potential = Pokey Reese's potential...and you see how that turned out. Willie can be a good defense replacement and part-time 2B for someone, but, yeah, that's about it. That's what happens when you think you're Joe Morgan and you act like Harry Morgan...or Jaye P. Morgan...
  10. I'm coming into this conversation late, so I have a couple of responses. IF ABC yanked the show BECAUSE of the homosexual couple...then that is a problem. IF ABC yanked the show because it sucked, then kudos to them, and they need to keep hacking away at that schedule...in fact, all of the networks, cable included, need to keep hacking. I think the average American family is indifferent. At the end of the day, most people go to bed worrying about themselves and their own lot in life...not the gay couple down the street or on TV. But there is definitely a vocal group saying the opposite. And FINALLY (finally), I think there is a bigger problem going on here. There is an hypocrisy within the religious communities (notice I pluralized it to not call out any one religion). The whole idea of most religions, at least I thought, was to live a good life and let the chips fall where they may. What you do on Earth decides where you go in the next life, whether you're in Heaven or reincarnated or whatever. And all of this worrying about what other people do and where they are going to go when all is said and done is hypocritical. I have a Christian friend who is homophobic and I present my argument as this, "Hating on someone that you think is a sinner isn't very Christian, is it? If you want to pray for that person, fine. But can't you accept him/her for what he/she is and let them worry about it themselves? Aren't you supposed to let God judge him/her?" In the words of a great philosopher, "Can't we all just get along." I think as the years go by, this ironic turn of phrase should become more and more important and people should start using it as a mantra. I have the same problem with PETA, as well.
  11. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 23, 2006 -> 12:57 PM) You're right. I still can't believe Clinton got reelected. Shoot...I can't believe any of these lying cheats get elected to be the so-called, "Most Powerful Man in the World." I don't care who it is...Clinton, Bush, whoever, they are all lucky bastards and equally screw up and help this country all at the same time. Every prez does good things and bad things. The key is, which hasn't seemed to catch on, is HOW TO HANDLE IT!!!
  12. QUOTE(Steff @ Jan 17, 2006 -> 11:57 AM) I don't have an answer for this question. All I know is that trying is better then not trying. Quitting on someone you are supposed to love and cherish through good times and bad till death do you part is not something I would do. To add.. if a man deems his relationship with his wife loveless and resentful after she's become pregnant in this manner... then he isn't much of a husband, and questionable as a man, and she'd likely be better off without him. We're talking about feelings and emotions here...sometimes, you just can't help the way you feel. I agree, trying is always better than not trying. But that doesn't mean you can stop feeling that way...and at some point, you are hurting everyone by forcing something that may not be there.
  13. I thought the point of a multiple party system was a system of checks and balances. Also, I believe the way government is supposed to work is...a representative is voted in by his/her constituency to represent them. Therefore, he/she is supposed to vote on what's best for the constituency. Not what's best for the party. THAT'S what's wrong with this system...you have a majority of rich, white men deciding what's best for this country, when really, all they care about is showing off who's balls are bigger and saying "Naa, naa, naa-naa, naa," when they pass a bill that we won't even know will work until a generation or two down the road. It would be nice to see one of these so-called well-educated Representatives think for themselves for once and not ask their party what they should do. And honestly, the older I get, the less I'm a Democrat...not because of my feelings or what they stand for, but because I just want to think for myself, I don't want to be aligned with either party. As Michael Douglas said in "The American President": "...I was too busy keeping my job to do my job." /end rant
  14. QUOTE(farmteam @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 11:10 AM) I always knew London was one whale of a city. BOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
  15. QUOTE(farmteam @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 12:15 AM) I prefer the Classic Double. I got a Triple (not at Wendy's, though), and it was just too much meat for me. C'mon people!!! Two sexual connotations BY THE SAME POSTER and it takes someone this long to say something?!?! Heh...too much meat. Perhaps this should be moved to the Satisfying Crede thread?
  16. QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 11:15 AM) Per ESPN yay america And somewhere, Dan LeBatard is cursing at his keyboard.
  17. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 19, 2006 -> 07:35 PM) http://www.sportsline.com/mlb/story/9175751 I mean, c'mon...look at the success of the Charlotte Hornets!!! And I'm not sure how the Hartford Whal...oops I mean Carolina Hurricanes are doing, but last I checked, they weren't doin' too well attendance wise. Of course, that was a couple of years ago.
  18. I see it now... Larry Lucchino: "WILLIE HARRIS?! Quick, get Theo on the phone, we need him back...bad."
  19. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 10:41 AM) A couple of thoughts. This guy is a horse. He is built like a brick s***house, not sure what that means but I like it. Phsically I think he is all there. If he is as old as we think he his, wouldn't his agent be inclined to rush into signing a long term deal as an injury now could end his career. I therefore do not think he is that old. When he defected he was thought of more highly than any Cuban defector, he is not a flash in the pan. Hispanic players struggle in NY and he seems to have turned it around. Trading him now will not get what you could get from him. We do not need to gamble on "sure thing" prospects which we probably wouldn't get anyway. I think they ride him out and if he pitches lights out, good for us. I think in the end we get a discount. I think it is a risk for him to ask for more than 3 yr or $10/M a year but if he pitches like he did last year, look out. This guy could cost Cashman his job. Here are some things to be weary about...we don't know how old he REALLY is, his mentor and best friend is no longer on the team, and when he pitched in Cuba, he would throw 150 pitches one game and then forced into pitching the next game. He just scares me a little bit. I don't think he can continue his incredible success of the 2nd half of 2005. I do still think he's an above average pitcher.
  20. Good luck to the man who scored the last and most important run for the White Sox in 2005! And I hope you pul land 0-fer against us this year!
  21. Acquisition is my tool of choice. But I will try that other one.
  22. To answer your question...the SW suburban area you should be looking in is Austin, Texas. It was in Fortune magazine as one of the more affordable places to live, housing wise. There is no way we woulda been able to afford a place in Chicago. at least not in a comparable place. You don't have to go more than 15 minutes out of Austin and you can get a big ol' place for less than $140K.
  23. QUOTE(TLAK @ Jan 19, 2006 -> 08:35 PM) I don't really know because I didn't see him last year but he wasn't good enough to crack that all-star roster on the grub last year. IIRC he came up when Patterson went down and played so well they brought Patterson back. An ill omen. Can't use that as an example. They were trying to get Corey some playing time as a showcase to get rid of the guy. And Grieve could be sent down. I don't think they said, "Grieve sucks, bring back Corey." I think it was, "We won't get anythign for Corey if he's in AAA, so who do we send down...*throws dart at dartboard*...Grieve it is!"
  24. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 19, 2006 -> 12:24 PM) He might be getting a dual citizenship. In the eyes of the US government, you can't be a dual citizen. Venezuela, on the other hand, may not mind.
  25. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 19, 2006 -> 12:23 PM) If he pitches like he did during the 2nd half of last season we'd be fools to trade him. Ride him into the post-season and see what can happen cause the guy was a beast for the 2nd half of the season (best pitcher in the AL too). If the right offer comes around...I'd trade him. If we don't have any needs...then keep him.
