QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 02:28 PM) Sorry, I've got dibs. I'm gonna use it to make popcorn with. I was gonna use it to set the world record for largest game of Trouble. Now I just have to find dice that will fit.

For people to start calling this time of year: Christma-Hanu-Kwanzaa-kah.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 01:39 PM) No offense meant to the Hip Hop fanbase here... I think they are going to try to avoid the Hip Hop/Rap genre a bit. I know I have heard many people complain that it really does not fit with much of the fanbase. I think a band like The Stones are lengendary enough that nobody will be "offended" by them, and many will enjoy them. They also defy a "style" really, they just play straight up RnR. But using a Hip Hop group would make as much sense as booking Slayer or some extreme Metal outfit. It's too genre specific. That's why I didn't say 50 Cent or Eminem or Lil Jon or someone like that. I'm talking about pure crossover. Black Eyed Peas and Kanye West would be perfect and make it younger. Yes, the Stones are pure RnR...but to a kid watching the Super Bowl, I don't think they will connect. That's why they need to get younger. Even the N'Sync and Aerosmith thing that I was kidding about before had the IDEA of cross generational music, whether you like them or not. I'm just saying the NFL can take a little more of a chance than going with the Stones. How about Alicia Keys or Fall Out Boy. Or even better, let's really get people going with some Mylo or Paul Van Dyk. They can pass out E, water and glow sticks.halfway thru the 2nd quarter.

I don't know about the square toe shoes. I just bought a new suit and the guy who sold them to me that the Europeans (we are ALWAYS a step behind them fashion-wise) are going back to more pointed toed shoes. Hmmmm.

QUOTE(BigEdWalsh @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 12:39 PM) Seriously, I think I'm right. There's no disputing Miles Davis belongs in a Hall of Fame but this is the ROCK and ROLL hall of fame. He doesn't belong there. Rod Argent of the Zombies and Argent has said he was a big Miles fan (as I'm sure were many other Rock artists) and that he was influenced by his music but come on, the line has to be drawn somewhere. Is John Coltrane going to be in the Rock hof too? Beethoven? Bach? I just think Miles Davis as a ROCK hof'er is too much a stretch. Not to be a jerk, but to me this sounds like a Hall of Fame argument from any HOF. Should they do away with the Ford Frick award? You don't really need an announcer and he/she certainly doesn't have an effect on the game. It just is a part of the overall experience. Miles Davis is part of the history of Rock and Roll. There may branches off of blues and jazz and country, but they all have had some influence on R&R. Plus, one could argue that Miles Davis was Rock and Roll simply because of attitude.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 12:36 PM) They had U2 in 2002, right after 9/11. And you have to admit, if any band works playing in front of a list of 9/11 casualties, it's U2. And sadly, they can't just book U2 every year. I knew that, I just couldn't think of another band off the top of my head that would connect as well multi-generationally. Booking the Stones makes it seem like there are a bunch of stodgy old men in a room saying, "Them Rolling Stones seem like good enough kids, let's use them." Maybe a band like the Foo Fighters or Black Eyed Peas would work better? I have no idea, but putting McCartney and Jagger back to back just looks bad. Actually, I want them to replay the N'Sync-Aerosmith thing with Ben Stiller from a few years ago. "That N'Sucked!!!" "I got it, N'Syncosmith. HOw about Aerosync?"

If this is the end, what will happen to the Pope-mobile? Can I have it?
-
It's nice to see the NFL trying to connect to the next generation of potential football fans. I mean, c'mon, no matter how they sound, it's time to find an act that'll actually sell cross-generations. The Stones aren't revered by the kids as maybe a U2 would be. And I'm no fan of U2.

Liz Phair is married to an commercial editor in Chicago, Jim Staskauskas. I believe he works for a company called Optimus. Met him once, nice guy. As for the sweetest voice... Without a doubt, Harriet Wheeler of the Sundays. She makes my jubblies tickle.

AND...don't forget Thome and him share an agent. ALSO, he can make more in endorsement dollars here. I would definitely go 5 years and maybe 1 or 2 mutual option years like Frank has.
-
I guess your "Chaos" is a little more "Controlled" than we all thought. Congrats to you and your wife!
-
We mustn't forget that Thome shares an agent with Konerko. They both have Craig Landis. I don't think he would allow one of his clients to take money from another client. So, there is still a chance Paulie will sign because Landis made sure the Sox were still bidders before the Thome trade was done.

Haven't heard any of the rumors, but the Angels could be trying to drive Manny's price down by downplaying the fact that they want him. It's happened before.

Right now...it's "The Luckiest" by Ben Folds. It will be our wedding song.

And somewhere in Hollywood...Andrew McCarthy feels vindicated.

The Austin, Texas real estate market is climbing quickly. It's still very affordable if you look for it, but there is a huge discrepancy. In the nice neighborhoods close to downtown, prices are pretty high. In Westlake and the Hills, prices are ridiculous. In the near suburbs, prices are afforable. In the farther suburbs, prices are downright cheap. It all depends on where you want to live, what you want in a house. As for the first house, everything went pretty smoothly except for the fact that the previous owner said he was going to put flashing around the new construction to the house and instead only put it on the side the inspector tested. This led us to withhold payment, and since they were closing on their new house the same day, he called me directly and asked if it was ok to leave it the way it was instead of going through our agents. I told him no and to direct all questions to our representatives. He relented and we released the money. Other than that, all went well. Congrats Rock. Nice area to move to. Say hi to Oprah and get a Hoppin' Jack for me at Wishbone.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 07:43 AM) The discussion in another thread about codified discrimination against homosexuals has me interested. Just where would the US rank in terms of homosexual friendly laws? Perhaps not discussing societal reactions, but in terms of our laws? What countries would be considered better, and I assume there are a lot that are worse. I have absolutely no information to back this up, but I would imagine that all Muslim countries are worse in terms of homosexuality and the law. Also, all Catholic-dominated nations, such as Mexico, Central and South America (maybe not Brazil, though), Spain, Italy, any remaining Communist nation. More relaxed laws I would probably see most of Western Europe. In fact, I would probably say that they wouldn't have laws one way or the other. Again, I have no facts backing any of this up. It's just what I think.

You trade Hernandez because: 1) He's old. 2) He's expensive. 3) He wants to start. Who's the 6th starter? How about Cotts? Or maybe someone else in the minors will take BMAC's spot as 6th starter. You deal from strength...and what the White Sox have is an extra starter, a lot of young talent in the minors and a LHR. I've learned there is no such thing as a can't miss player. For every one of those, there is a Mike Piazza or Mark Buehrle. Saying low draft choices that end up being great.

Happy Backbacon to you. Happy Backbacon to you. Happy Backbacon dear Kip... Happy Baaaaaackbacon toooooo youuuuuuuuu...eh.

TBH...you are absolutely right...if it ain't broke, don't fix it. But, there were parts of the White Sox that were broke. A lefty power bat, as someone said. If, for some reason, Abreu became available, I'd be all for the upgrade. It's not that we want a trade just to trade.

The families are coming to our house this year. The in-laws-to-be are flying in Tuesday and staying until the following Tuesday...with us. My mom will be here Tues.-Sat. My dad will be here Wed.-Sat. Although the idea was mine...I can't believe the in-laws-to-be are staying for A WEEK. Boy, what a moron I am.

QUOTE(That funky motion @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 04:15 PM) I have a hard time believing Gload would be our starting 1st baseman, when they were reluctant to call him up this year. They could blame that on the injuries. He did have a pretty severe shoulder injury IIRC.
