QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 29, 2016 -> 10:44 AM) Bernstein is all against the violation of women... unless it is to his own benefit, and then hey totally cool. I'm very forgiving. It's hard to remember what you said two years ago when your job is to talk every day. But, he took such a stand on Patrick Kane. Then, he kind of laughs off the "boob" comment on Twitter. Now, he thinks it's ok for the Cubs to trade for Chapman because, "They are trying to win?" No. Just no.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 11:07 PM) My guy on the inside says it's all but done. If true, any chance the 'hawks will be dinged for getting to him without having his negotiating rights? Or did they find backchannels?

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jul 29, 2016 -> 10:29 AM) My take giving it 30 seconds of time is that he took issue with Michelle Obama claiming that the White House was built by slaves. I think on the one hand he was trying to say that's not a full truth since the White House was also built by non-slaves, and then he wanted to go further and differentiate between "real" slaves in the south versus "well fed, sheltered" slaves in the north. A stupid, unnecessary distinction that really gets you nowhere. It was dumb of him to say. However, I do agree with Y2HH that there's nothing racist about saying it. There's no gray area of slavery. It is or it isn't. A person should never be "owned." End of story.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 29, 2016 -> 12:46 AM) See, Newt argues there like some of us. You think I'm ignoring stats. Newt is going by feel there, with his position. Hey, there is a ton of crime in Chicago and Baltimore and some big cities. I don't know what the FBI stats are, but cmon, America safe? There was a whole story in USA Today recently by the surgeon moving his family to his native country cause ours is so dangerous. Newt is not owned in that clip. Did you know, in 1974, there were roughly 900 murders in the city of Chicago? Last year, there were 468. Now, that is still 468 too many, but to say that we live in a more dangerous place is a misnomer. I just read an article the other day about this notion that things are getting worse. Here it is: The World Isn't Falling Apart. We're just paying attention. People, like you in this case, focus in on one aspect and don't see the world view. And THAT is the dangerous part of all of this.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 05:34 PM) The cognitive dissidence has been palpable the past few days. The Cubs radio contract is clearly a factor, Abbatacola basically admitted as much. It's ridiculous. And for someone so high and mighty, like Bernstein, to just drop his values because of a contract with a team...makes me puke. And he didn't give a damn ripping the Sox when they had that contract.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 28, 2016 -> 03:02 PM) Arguing politics is fruitless, but do you guys know what you are saying? Not to be a party pooper but Obama's tenure has seen the ultimate destruction of the middle class (the era of the layoff, furlough, salary cut, total change in businesses' relationship with workers; who the hell is hiring???) as well as close to a new social revolution in terms of shootings, disturbances in cities, race relation problems escalating. Inability to get any government consensus. He's one helluva likeable guy and a great speaker but I think he's been a disaster in terms of President. As a person? Great person, great speaker, appears to be nicest guy ever and that's very important in life, but you guys IMO are drinking the Democratic koolaid so to speak. Economically? Are you and your friends better off now than you were 10 years ago? I think the Average Joe is living paycheck to paycheck and one bad business decision from being homeless. Why the Obama love? disclaimer: I have the right to my opinion on politics as much as any of you Obama supporters who probably want me banned over this post. Are you seriously blaming the President of the United States for how companies treat workers? I think that's been happening for quite a long time. And honestly, it really picked up after the Enron fiasco. More than ever, employees are replaceable commodities. This is why I went freelance. I was sick of it. But I certainly didn't blame the President when I was let fired in '96, or laid off in '02 or '09 or '12. It wasn't Clintons or Bush's or Obama's fault. Businesses look at bottom line, not value of work, well, some do, but overall, they don't. The ultimate destruction of the middle class as you call it started with "trickle down economics" which doesn't work. The reason people get rich is by NOT spending. And when they have it, they want more. I don't want you banned, I want you informed.

I used to like B&B. Mostly because it seemed like they had fun. But the Aroldis Chapman trade was the last straw. Bernstein ripped the Blackhawks over Patrick Kane (no, I don't want to get into it again), but Bernstein shook off the Chapman trade as, well, sometimes you overlook these things to win. I think someone tried to call him out on it, and he pulled, the "Well, it's a different situation..." No, it's not. Either you are against abuse or you aren't. Either you give the guy a pass or you don't. Either you wait for the law to run its course or you don't. There's no gray area when it comes to abuse in any form. Or any team. Whether it be Penn State, the Blackhawks or the Cubs. I am done with them and I am done with him.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 12:42 PM) Vesey will be a Blackhawk. Of that there's little question. Thank you, Rocky Wirtz, for reviving this once-s*** franchise. The Hawks are a no-brainer choice for a guy like this now. How can you be so sure? His dad is with the Maple Leaf organization and he said at some point, or said to someone, that he would like to stay on the East Coast.

QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ May 18, 2016 -> 05:26 AM) I still say the perfect candidate is sitting in Minnesota in Ervin Santana. Offer up a guy like Beck and Leury Garcia, who seems to be a typical Twin-type player but has no real future with the Sox because of Saladino and Sanchez, and that should be plenty. It may not even cost that much. Slide Santana into the #3 or 4 spot and the rotation is again very solid. Does that make the Twins any better? Not sure. Aren't they are looking to build.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 4, 2016 -> 10:08 PM) Of course. He just said what all the experts say when they don't want to discuss this ... Hillary is storming toward the nomination, can't be slowed down no matter what. He won't discuss what I want to discuss and want the talking heads on TV to discuss. Like Bernie says, the superdelegates had made up their minds long ago to go for Hillary. His campaign, which could have a ton of momentum if the media didn't scoff at him and continue paying homage to Hillary, could reasonably sway the superdelegates to switch to Bernie. Bernie makes some good points about stuff like that and adds that if the superdelegates switch we could have the biggest upset in the history of politics. The media USUALLY likes a good underdog story ... not here, lol. I just don't understand why the media refused to allow Bernie fever to catch on. You have to admit, only thing he's missing is media credibility and that won't come. For the life of me I can't understand it. None of you will comment on what I'm saying. You are just doing what they do on TV. Half listen to what a person like me says then scream above the fray, "IT DOESN"T MATTER; HILLARY IS WINNING THE NOMINATION SOON; NONE OF THAT MATTERS." p.s. I did read something the other day, I wish I remember where, that was bemoaning the lousy candidates. It simply called Hillary "a foul mouthed granny with no new ideas." I laughed at that one. Two things hurt Bernie this year. 1) Trump. He took up so much of the news cycle that when the media needed to cover the Dems, they picked the frontrunner. Which they should, honestly.... But, then they continued to do that, which they shouldn't. 2) Bernie doesn't like big business, media companies are big business. Choice to protect business over media time. That being said, I think Bernie has gotten plenty of secondary attention on social media, which is becoming a bigger factor in elections as the years roll on. This system isn't going to change in one election cycle, but Bernie has started the discussion with the younger voters and that will manifest itself in coming elections. That's all we can hope for right now.

CINCO DE MAYO GAME THREAD: BOS @ SOX
CanOfCorn replied to cabiness42's topic in 2016 Season in Review
First game of the year tonight! W00t! Let's get this. -
Maybe he's matured enough to know this is a Prove It contract and is willing to listen and learn. If he can put it all together, with his past, he could get a hefty contract next year.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 27, 2016 -> 01:06 PM) absolutely it was. And the bar robbery was just straight up dumb. But if you think about it, there was no "progression". He burned the cat, robbed the bar, spent 18 years in jail for a rape he didnt commit, then supposedly murdered someone on the day he was due to get a county pay out. That is 20 years between crimes(if he actually murdered Halbach) I just don't understand why anyone who wrongfully spent 18 years in prison (or 12 if you take out the brandishing of a weapon, assault?), and about to be set for life to move the heck out of Manitowoc County, would commit this type of crime. Plus, I would think, although I don't know, that someone who has proclaimed innocence from day one would continue to fight and proclaim innocence like this. It just seems like Steven Avery isn't smart enough to keep up the ruse of innocence for this long without spilling the beans at some point to someone.
-
In my gut, I believe Steven Avery is innocent of this crime. But, I also don't think it will ever be solved. I don't think anyone in Manitowoc County gives a rats behind about the Averys and as far as they are concerned, case closed. And it's a shame. There are just too many "ifs" to not go back and interview other members of the community. I mean, if Steven Avery did kill her, then he's already in prison, but Bobby, Chuck, Earl, Scott, shoot even her ex-boyfriend or roommate...none of those people were even thought about. Well, maybe they were as a formality, but not seriously. I'm outraged by the system.

Can't believe no one has listed Dan Haggerty AKA Grizzly Adams or Richard Libertini of Fletch and All of Me and countless other fantastic movies. RIP

Just read this and I agree. The Skywalker's were a big part of it, but it's time to start a new chapter: Why Rey shouldn't be a Skywalker.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 12:30 AM) I take it you are concerned about his stance of kicking out non US citizens out of the country. You know, a lot of Americans are very concerned about ISIS assholes sneaking up on them and uh, chopping off their heads or heads of a loved one. Or blowing up bombs at parades and in churches and all over the place. Our system has checks and balances and no Hitler type is going to succeed in America. What specifically bothers you about Trump. I put in the link recently about all his positions on issues. Yes I believe he'd be WAY BETTER than Hillary as president. I do. Does that make me a terrible person as I've been accused? I can tell you from my perspective. Complete and utter lack of respect for...well, everyone. I didn't like Bush, but I respected him BECAUSE HE WAS THE PRESIDENT. I didn't like the, "He's not smart," dialogue, whether it's true or not. He is the President and we elected him. Secondly, lack of respect for other candidates. His cracks about Fiorina and utter disregard for any of the other candidates on the dais is appalling. Finally, lack of respect for the American people. He has openly mocked people about their looks, their disabilities or just because they disagree with him. He's a horrible candidate. He's a horrible person. If you want to support him, go right ahead. That's what makes America great. You aren't horrible, but I'm disappointed in you as an American.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 09:17 PM) What was wrong with the Yoda fight? He was the leader of the Jedi, he better be strong in a fight. Of all the things to complain about from the prequels, this isn't one for me. You expect the leader of the Jedi to be cool in a fight and he did some cool s***. If I may add...why the cane, Yoda? All of a sudden Yoda goes from old and decrepit to flipping like a gymnast. I agree, more force manipulation. But, 1-3 were just not good overall, so y'know, I deal with it. Because I'm a nerd.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 12:58 PM) Right. Let's get back to slobbing the knob of technology and computers. Right...there was no Yoda backstory. He was just a really old and accomplished Jedi Master. Snoke could just be a bad dude with a power grab. Or maybe a clone that went bad. Or someone like Finn...a snatched kid that became a Stormtrooper and moved up the ranks instead of out like Finn.
