QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 4, 2013 -> 03:04 PM) Maybe. Dont need Carcillo out there though. You can add in someone like Mayers who actually does some things well. IMHO, Mayers looks like he is skating in mud. -

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Mar 4, 2013 -> 01:38 PM) He had Carcillo on the top line yesterday when they were losing 1-0 in the third period. He doesn't protect anyone. He takes stupid penalties. Q also dressed 7 defensemen. I'm not saying every time...I just noticed it in the Blue Jackets game. -
Nothing on Mully and Hanley? Mully talks over Hanley sometimes (more lately) but I actually like those two together and are my go to before Waddle and Silvy. (Full disclosure: I went to high school with Silvy and we still occasionally talk, but that's not why I like them). Harry was definitely the weakest link...couldn't take a joke and I don't think he and Jurko really had any chemistry.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Mar 4, 2013 -> 12:41 PM) Plus you can tell he's not 100%. He just looks so slow out there. I know he's not the fastest guy to begin with, but you can tell he's slower than usual. Stop. Playing. On. Top. Line. I don't know if you all noticed it, but during the Columbus game, towards the end, Saad was on the top line. Here's what I think is happening...Carcillo is on the top line when the Blackhawks don't need offense, but do need protection for Toews and Hossa. BUT, when the 'hawks do need offensive, Q goes into juggling mode and whoop, there goes Saad to the top line. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. -
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 17, 2012 -> 03:59 PM) As does a gun/bow/crossbow. It CAN be used for a purpose outside of deadly harm, whether you like it or not. What is that purpose? Target practice? What's the point of target practice? To be better at shooting AT SOMETHING. Sorry but we have to agree to disagree.
-
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 17, 2012 -> 03:52 PM) That's simply false. Maybe you enjoy shooting at targets at the range, it's a hobby of yours. That right there is a use of a gun that's not deadly harm. Same goes for people who are into archery. Yes, you CAN kill someone with a bow/arrow, but that doesn't have to be it's ONLY use. Edit to my point: The use of a car isn't intended to kill people. But IMO, if you love having 10 drinks and driving, that IS your intention, whether you're sane or smart enough to admit it or not. It is not false. A car has a purpose outside of deadly harm. I agree with you about drinking and driving. But...a gun has no other purpose.
-
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 17, 2012 -> 03:46 PM) While I understand your condescension, it ignores the argument I posed. If you buy that Volvo, and drink and drive as a routine, ignoring the law, IMO, it IS your intention to kill people, whether they're attacking your family or not. OK...so by that argument...if I leave my house with a gun, it is also my intention to kill something, because the only use of a gun is deadly harm.
-
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 17, 2012 -> 03:42 PM) I didn't mean to infer ALL guns in my prior post, but there's a new push now for gun bans in the wake of Newton. Look at this thread. People are talking about bans on guns left and right. Here's two senators wanting to reinstate the assault weapons ban even though the weapons used would have been legal to have under that law: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/...eapons-ban.html To which I say...it's a start.
-
Cars don't dole out deadly force as their PRIMARY function. Guns do. Even if you are shooting at a range or at tin cans. That is the lone job of a gun. Cars are definitely dangerous...but as was said before, their PRIMARY function is to get someone from point A to point B.

When I was a kid, my grampa would always have the Sox on Channel 44 in the den. The days of Harry Carey and Jimmy Piersall. But, I was more of a baseball fan and not a fan of either team. It wasn't until I started to go to a steady stream of games in '84 - '86 that I became the Sox fan of today. I will admit that I actually rooted for the Cubs in '84. I really like the "Daily Double" of Dernier and Sandberg. But I was also starting to latch onto the likes of Fisk and Baines. I think the tide started to turn when I went to a July series against the Tigers. I went to two games and saw FOUR roof shots. One by a young Team USA member in an exhibition named Mark McGwire. One each by Kittle and Luzinski. And the first one over the right field roof by Ruppert Jones. That pretty much sealed the deal from that day forward. And as Harry Carey sunk deeper into insanity and my love of Wimpy grew... here we are today. Oh, and one more thing, as silly as it sounds, I loved Andy the Clown. He was a fan in the mold of Fireman Ed. Someone who could rally the crowd without being a caricature of himself. GOOOOOO YOOOOOOUUUUU WHIIIIIIIIITE SOOOOOOOOOOX!

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 11:26 AM) Last I checked they are the 8th best team in the AL. At the end of the year, there's only one number 1 team in MLB. It can be a division winner, or a team like the 2006 St. Louis Cardinals...who were 83-78 and ended up winning the World Series. So quit your b****ing and enjoy an overachieving 2012 White Sox team. And if you can't...there's a team on the other side of town that needs more mopers.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Sep 6, 2012 -> 06:49 AM) Maybe we should amend the Constitution to make the Presidency a six-year term with no possibility of re-election? The the President's party doesn't have to worry about re-electing him and the opposition party doesn't have to worry about defeating him and maybe more gets done. I approve this message.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 5, 2012 -> 09:54 AM) How come my reaction to Michelle's speech wasnt quoted? Greg is just part of the liberal media bias because no one wants to report my score of 4 out 10. And almost all speeches are a waste of time. Except when I give them, then you should all pay attention because Im going to tell you how it really is and why if only we were a fraction of as good as the greatest generation we could not only fix this mess but also send the first cloned human to another galaxy. Who is coming with me! Mmmm...I don't know...what does Chuck Todd say about all of this?

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 4, 2012 -> 08:15 PM) Well youre not going to like my answer. So let me preface this, I dont mind people who like religion and think its important. I do mind people who think religious beliefs should be reflected in our govt. For whatever reason there are seemingly more really religious people in the South than North. Because of this you get resistance to social platforms due to religious beliefs (gay marriage is a sin, abortion is a sin). The fact should be, that it doesnt matter its a sin, that it is up to god to judge them. Unfortunately, for a variety of reasons that are very irrelevant, many people believe it is their job to make sure that the rest of us dont sin. It just makes no sense. Imagine for a second, that instead of being a predominantly Christian nation, it was predominantly Jewish. Would we want kosher to be law? Of course not, if I want a bacon cheeseburger, friend shrimp and a milkshake, I as an American should be able to buy that. If God is going to send me to hell for that, heaven must suck anyway because my heaven includes bacon cheeseburgers. It also includes a lot of other things which either means 1) heaven doesnt exist or 2) Im not going there. But well find that out later, for today Im running my life how I want to. Not how some thousand year old book tells me to. Two things. First bolded part...I don't think that is ENTIRELY true. I just think it's different. I know many religious Northerners, but they are 1) less outspoken and 2) more accepting. I think that's the difference. Northerners keep their faith to themselves more. Southerners tend to be more tent-revival. Not all...but as a generalization. Second bolded part...I have to say, that is the best analogy I have ever seen regarding this issue and I wish I would have thought of that myself...especially since I'm Jewish. DAMMIT and kudos to you.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Sep 4, 2012 -> 11:14 AM) They were equating money with respect, so it has everything to do with money. What do they want, statues? Parades? If the district is THAT good as you say, they already get respect from the local parents, and people seek out districts like that to move into (if they can afford it). First of all...two different places of where I grew up and where I currently live. In Oak Park, no strike. No need. In Skokie...strike, I didn't think they needed, but gladly took the days off. My point is...teachers are thought to either have too much responsibility or not enough, when really, it's neither. It's turned into a rock and a hard place situation. I also think administrators make too much and would help cut the fat. But teachers need to be compensated for their service to the community. And if they aren't good at what they do, which is teach, not raise, kids...they need to be let go. Pretty simple.

When does it turn into an argument for respect? When I was in HS, my district had the longest tenured teachers in the state and I believe it was top 3 in salaries. Those teachers went on strike for a higher percentage pay raise. That has nothing to do with wanting more money, it has to do with respect concerning education level, length of tenure in the district and where the schools were in educating the kids (I believe we were near the top in test scores at the time). Here's the funny thing, and I'm not going to go after GOP or Dem on this...the United States, in the last 20 years, has been talking about growing businesses. More, more, more. Whether it's by buying smaller businesses to get bigger or selling your business to someone to get seed money for another start-up. So now, when teachers or anyone goes on strike to ask for more, there is an uproar. This is what most people strive for. To do better than our parents, to create a better life for our kids. This isn't a professional sports league where millionaires are fighting billionaires over what amounts to be dollar bills. This is about a teacher trying to teach a kid but getting the business from the students or the parents or the district or the taxpayers. I currently live in a school district where the property taxes are very high. I know our schools are good schools. Does it hurt to see that tax bill, you bet it does. Does it make me feel better when I talk to other parents in the area who say, "Oh, you're sending your kid to (local middle school), my kids loved their teachers and learned a lot." Abso-f***ing-lutely. We all have choices. You don't want to pay higher taxes, move somewhere taxes are lower, but be prepared to get fewer local services.
