QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 14, 2012 -> 01:24 PM) Ozzie has been as placid as Lake Elizabeth and Marie at 6 a.m. on a to-be-hot summer day since the Castro thing. I...uh...ok.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 11:58 AM) Romney needs to stop being a baby and go total attack mode on Obozo. And if he does, he, and his crew, better be prepared for counter-attacks.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 10:37 AM) That's still negative campaigning imo. You're describing negative aspects of your opponent's plan and attacking them for it. Positive campaigning would be highlighting your own positive aspects. Fair point.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 10:32 AM) It's never going to stop. I'd like to distinguish between negative campaigning and dishonest, dumb campaigning, though. There's nothing wrong with describing negative impacts of your opponents' policies or past votes etc., but that's different from "put you in chains" or "blood on your hands." A thoughtful respectful approach with an actual answer to WHY it didn't work isn't negative campaigning, it's what you said. Describing negative impacts.

Not for partying but for beaches...might I suggest Roatan? It's off the coast of Honduras, but it's a Caribbean atmosphere. The locals are incredibly friendly and it's easy to navigate. Might be a little crowded now that it isn't so much of a secret anymore...but I absolutely loved it and considered buying a condo there.

Ozzie provided a lot of notable quotables over the years...which is gold to the media. Probably don't want to rock the boat. Which is really a shame.

This morning on the Today Show, Reince Priebus called out Joe Biden for negative campaigning by saying the Romney-Ryan ticket will unchain Wall Street while putting the middle class back "in chains." Mr. Priebus then continued saying he would like to discuss only the issues and staying away from negative campaigning. This coming off of Mr. Priebus saying President Obama had "blood on his hands" regarding Medicare cuts. Uuuummmm...I'm as sick as everyone else of negative campaigning, but until guys like Mr. Biden and Mr. Priebus stop, it ain't gonna happen. This situation reminds me of an old Henny Youngman joke (yes, I'm old): Patient: Doctor, it hurts when I do this. Doctor: Don't do that.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 07:20 AM) I'd go beyond just Obama and suggest that the main reason our entire political system is in such bad shape is that the set of qualities that get you elected to a position bear little resemblance to the set of qualities that help you successfully execute that position. There are probably people out there who would make fantastic Presidents but don't even consider running because they are utterly unelectable. Thanks Husker...So true. It's a popularity contest pure and simple.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 3, 2012 -> 01:29 PM) I wonder why in the world your generation is anti religious. I shudder to think of a generation that can't take time out on a Sunday to go to church with the family. IMO it's yet one more thing that will make it a "me" generation which is not all good. There are a lot of good things about worship that IMO add to the benefit of society and family and community. You say it's a viewpoint and way of life. Well how did we get to this point? I guess parents didn't bring their kids up stressing religion at all or God at all or faith at all. And soon we are going to have a society that never worships. Great. If your generation is not going to have community worship, then I wish it would change to where people organzize Sunday or Saturday outings to go help the poor or something, because IMO the concept of community worship on a Saturday or Sunday or Wed. night is a very positive thing. Going to church on Sunday as a family unit to pray to something bigger than themselves is a good thing for kids instead of sitting in front of the f***ing computer all day playing video games. Perhaps somebody in your generation will organize more community service outings. For some reason I think that is hugely doubtful. People generally need to have their arm twisted to go volunteer. === On the CFA front, seriously, do we need a "kiss-in" today at all the CFA stories of gay and lesbian community? The CFA appreciation day was in response to the boycott of CFA. Now we have to have men kissing each other in front of stores? I want men to be able to marry men. Fine. But do we have to have today's public display? Wasn't the boycott enough? So in response to today, we'll have another CFA Appreciation Day next week? I definitely agree with the middle part. Religion, to me, is something that is held in your heart, not in a building. Sundays in a church shouldn't be necessary. If this is something you believe, than you should carry it with you wherever you go, which I think you've said you do, greg, and that's good. But, and this is in limited experience, very few people get anything new out of Sunday services. To me, church should be held more like an open house. Open discussion, questions, answers, come and go as you please. Doing the same thing every week, seems, well, redundant. As for your last part...is there a need for a "kiss-in?" No. Just like there wasn't a need for a boycott or an appreciation day. BUT, every group has the right to do it, so...yes, there's going to be one.

QUOTE (balfanman @ Jul 31, 2012 -> 10:31 AM) Thank you; it's a good feeling to have your back covered when you have to step away for a while. The Sox have a very solid rotation when they are all healthy and rested. Quite frankly, they are not currently in that state. I think you could replace "The Sox" with any of the playoff eligible teams and that would be true. Again, who would the Sox get with the chips they have. Kenny is an early bird. He upgraded the pieces needed. Anything else is a want at this point.

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 01:37 AM) Reddy sounds like me when I was 17. The constant comparisons to the civil rights with blacks is laughable. I'm about as liberal as it gets but seriously Gays have very nearly the same rights as you or I. I'd love to see them be able to get legally married and all but I have never seen anyone openly discriminate against someone because they are gay. The government should just make everything civil unions and let the churches call what they do marriage if you ask me. It's just semantics. Civil Unions are a way of pleasing the folks that are against gay marriage. This makes America look stupid. "Sooo, let's be clear. If a gay couple enters into a civil union, they will receive all the rights and privileges bestowed upon an opposite-sex marriage?" "Yes." "But, it's not marriage, right?" "No, it's a civil union." "Whew...and I thought it was a marriage."

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 08:32 AM) The other option is to go to the NL West or NL Central and do the same thing...put up a huge year statistically, maybe lead the NL in strikeouts or finish Top 10 in ERA. It's a little bit like the situation with Edwin Jackson. You can see a team out there giving him $7-10 million for one year, but not a multi-year deal until he proves what he can really do on a consistent basis. Maybe if he stuck around with Floyd, we'd have the two most infuriating yet talented starters that any team has in their rotation. Can we get Ervin Santana, too?

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 09:37 AM) Yes, they get to fill their football stadium, but they are paying a fine that more or less wipes out their revenues from filling that stadium, and allowing them to play avoids unfairly punishing the other Big Ten teams by having revenue losses and last-minute schedule changes. Only other thing I would have liked to see was a TV ban for non-conference games. That will come indirectly from sucking in a couple of years. Sure, they'll be on the B1G Network, but only locally.

Geoff Blum. But seriously...James Shields.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 11:20 AM) No, he said he thinks it's wrong that humans feel like they can redefine marriage when God has already done it. He's never said anything about punishing gay people that I've seen. Mr. Cathy has every right to say what he wants to say and believe whatever he wants to believe. But now, if the alderman thinks that a Chick-Fil-A isn't a good fit for his constituents, he doesn't have to let them in. It doesn't matter what the individual store general manager, manager or employees might believe. Shoot, that particular store could be a bathhouse by night and it wouldn't matter. If the parent company believes it, the company should expect the fallout to all of its stores. Bottom line, if Chick-Fil-A were really and truly worried about expanding your business into cities that trend to the left, shut your mouth about these issues and open your restaurants.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 11:16 AM) 2-0. The US continues to completely fail at defense. They blew the World Cup with awful defending and gave up 2 on the only 2 attacks France has had so far. Pretty laughable. That's IT!!! I'm not watching this Olympics. It's fixed! -

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 02:51 PM) Yeah, it's been quite the boring offseason. Watching all these stars choose other teams. The excitement from 2 or 3 weeks ago has dropped off significantly. Actually, with all of the talent being drained out of the Central...it's kinda exciting. Every team but the 'hawks and possibly the Blues have gotten worse. -
Let's not forget the proverbial "Palmeiro Finger" here, either. JoePa, for years, propped himself up on this moral high ground of the "Grand Experiment." Or, at the very least, didn't scoff when someone else did. He and the PSU football program, thought they were bigger than Penn State itself. The program needed to be punished...and it was. It's going to take years for Penn State to get near the success they have had. I will say this, though...I have a lot of respect for Bill O'Brien.
