QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 10:54 AM) What would the Sox be able to offer? Would the Sox look at moving Viciedo, Floyd, and Quintana? Would that be enough? Too much? I lean to it being too much. Quintana is a pretty valuable chip, however, given how he's pitched at a young age, I have a hard time giving up a cost-controlled lefty that has looked as good as he has. That said, he could be a one year wonder as it isn't like he has stellar stuff. But boy can he pitch. He changes speeds well, uses the whole plate, etc. I really don't expect the Sox to deal any more then one of their major league starters to get another starter. The exception to this rule would be if the club really thought Danks was coming back soon, in which case, you could have more flexibility to move 2 starters. However, with Peavy and Sale throwing a lot of innings, it makes sense to know that if/when Danks comes back, you have a 6th starter (probably Humber) who can pitch in long-relief and help out in a pinch. I'd be more then willing to deal Mitchell and other prospects to get Johnson. The question is how expensive will he be. He's still really on the road back from missing the bulk of 2011, however, he looked great his last start. Velocity is still down a couple ticks from his pre-injury days. We had a guy like that. His stuff wasn't stellar but he knew how to pitch. He is now with the Marlins. Let's not send another one of those their way.

Tigers Acquire Sanchez and Infante from Marlins
CanOfCorn replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 09:53 PM) This deal merely puts the Tigers in better position to compete with the White Sox. THAT'S what I like to see! The Tigers just did what the White Sox did a couple of weeks ago, upgraded their worst position. Plus the Tigers gave up their #1 pitching AND #1 catching prospect for a 3rd/4th rotation pitcher and a 2B they traded for JACQUE JONES!!! Yes, it makes the Tigers more dangerous. But, there are too many games and too many crazy things that can happen before we write off the Sox as AL Central winners. -
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 02:06 PM) This is why your comparison to JPM makes no mistake. JPM has money Dimon has money They are not the same money, so when JPM gets fined, it does not touch Dimon's money. When you have wins, that are the schools, that are the coaches and the players, you have a much different issue. Forgetting Paterno for a second, what about the players? They did nothing wrong, yet all of their victories are now tarnished. If JPM makes a mistake, the regular employees dont lose money that they already earned. Its just a far more complicated issue, and yeah its easy to say "PSU deserves it", but does everyone at PSU really deserve it? I dont know. That is true. But there is only one constant person over those years of vacated football wins...Paterno. Each player had up to 6 years of time on the football team (redshirt years included). This covers a 14 year period. Sorry, the CEO of the football team deserves his wins vacated, the players don't be they are collateral damage.
-
Here's your hearing: Atty: So, Paterno family, what say you? Paternos: JoePa was a fine, upstanding man, who educated hundreds and mentored thousands of young men and shepherded them into the next stage of life. He valued education over athletics and for that, we should have mercy on them. Atty: I hold, in my hand, emails and letters from Mr. Paterno actively covering up a coaches actions regarding raping and molesting children between the ages of 8-16 while ON the Penn State campus and within the football facilities AFTER his transgressions had been reported to Mr. Paterno. Paternos: Yeeeeeaaaaahhhh...about that.

Veal sent to AAA to make room for Gavin

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 09:50 AM) Why not send down Septimo or Ommogrosso, or someone who didn't look really solid like Veal did? Isn't Omogrosso already down with the activation of Jesse Crain? Or was it Brett Myers? -
According to the MLB Network, of the 25 best personalities in the history of baseball...Hawk is #14. And I have to say, the list is stacked with Sox...Ozzie and Bill Veeck were also on the list.

QUOTE (MAX @ Jul 19, 2012 -> 03:42 PM) He gets a vase too? Yeah he should definitely go there. It's pronounced "vahz."

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 19, 2012 -> 12:06 PM) If you hold negative views of groups, you will treat them differently. That's pretty much unavoidable. This was the question. I'm not calling it discrimination, I was asking if it can be construed that way. Sorry if it wasn't clear enough. But the COO didn't suppress them...that's why I was asking.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 19, 2012 -> 11:22 AM) They have every right to think that way, you have every right not to consume their products. That's the way I look at it. True...here's my question: Every corporation can donate to any charity/group/anything they want (that's legal). But doesn't this open up a discriminatory slippery slope? Is Chick-Fil-A not indirectly discriminating? Aren't CEO Dan Cathy's comments basically segregating the LGBT community KNOWING they are going to boycott? I understand the idea of choice. But that works for anyone who ISN'T gay. Is this borderline discriminatory?
-
By now, you've probably heard about Chick-Fil-A and their anti-same sex marriage stand. This coming from a company that is openly evangelical. Is it a big deal? Personally, I think they can have any opinion they want, but it's a slippery slope. The corporation gives to "anti-gay" groups but will gladly accept money from the LGBT community (if anyone of them would ever go there again). But, you can't discriminate and not allow them to buy your chicken. Seems like this is a case of shut up and serve.... matt

When do we start the Fire Herm thread?

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 10:57 AM) I think it's long-sighted, actually. OK...so let's say Robin moves him to 6 and he continues to slump? Move him to 8? Look, you move him now and the rest of the AL will pounce on perceived weakness.
-
Paulie is still a dangerous hitter, slump or not. He brings something to the plate every time he is up. Moving him back because of a slump could affect the way other teams scout him and handle the rest of teh White Sox hitters. It smacks as desperation. And for a first place team, that's not what you want to show the rest of your division. I know what you are saying, shack, but it is shortsighted.

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Jul 16, 2012 -> 01:38 PM) I always loved the Sears Tower as a building, but the truth is that the better view was on the John Hancock building. It's location in the Skyline is just better. Yeah...but...the Sears Tower is taller.

Jon Lord, 71...original keyboardist for Deep Purple lost his battle with cancer and is now Smoke on the Water. RIP

I would like for the White Sox and Kevin Youkilis do to the Boston Red Sox as the White Sox and AJ did to the Rangers before the break. White Sox MAD! White Sox STOMP Red Sox!

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 13, 2012 -> 02:55 PM) Then why bother? Neither is likely to outperform Humber, IMO, or really any other Coop-trash-heap-reclamation project. Aim higher or stand pat. If aiming higher is too costly, stand pat. My guess is...the organizations is worried about Danks not being able to pitch again this year. Humber is your number 5 AND they want to limit Sale toward the end of the year. So, you need a 6th starter and Axelrod hasn't proven it yet. Now, if Axelrod has a good start or two, then maybe they can look for only a reliever. That's JMHO. By the way, remember, the only trade in 2005 was Geoff Blum. So a veteran bullpen arm might be a good sign. Just sayin'.

Don't spit on the MillerCoors building. I might feel it. I'll wave up at you!
-
Really Caulfield? Colon? I think his bridges are burned after disappearing. I could see Millwood. He's experienced, can eat some innings, should be a cheap rent-a-player AND has had some success in both leagues.

Best and Worst Sections, value in the park
CanOfCorn replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 02:21 PM) I've sat in both. I loved Houston's Field, and Texas, not so much. Their upper deck seats in the outfield are way up there. And not to mention how stupid it was to build a park with no outfield openings in a place where it can be 100 degrees at 10pm. Seriously...for all the "It's bigger in Texas" bulls***, they build a park that makes you feel claustrophobic. Booooo! I say. -
Best and Worst Sections, value in the park
CanOfCorn replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 01:54 PM) Totally disagree about the Upper Deck. The top is bad but the first few rows behind home plate is one of the best seats in the house. And Greg, the worst ballpark in baseball? Seriously? Off the top of my head, Houston and Tampa Bay are worse. Oakland is awful. Even the headache that is Wrigley Field sucks until you are sitting in your seats. Houston??? Are you kidding? I would put the Ballpark at Arlington lower on the list than Houston. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 11, 2012 -> 09:03 AM) Even today, I will still call the Tigers the favorites in the AL Central. Maybe I am alone on that, maybe not, but they are a way more talented team than the White Sox. At present...the Tigers have more talented PLAYERS. The White Sox, however, have a better TEAM. Hopefully, this translates into an AL Central crown and WS winner....

The Sox just traded Lillibridge and released Kosuke BECAUSE of Jordan Danks. Who would fill that role?
