QUOTE (WCSox @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 08:45 PM) You forgot about the $25+ million going to Peavy and Rios next year, the raises that Jenks, Floyd, Danks, and Quentin will command via arbitration, and the money that the Sox are losing due to economy-driven losses in advertising and luxury suite sales. The Sox have less to spend next season than a lot of people think. We have about 68 million locked up next year. So unless Jenks, Danks, and Q's arb gets to a sum of 30 million (protip: it won't), we still have money to spend. Should be just over 10 million actually. And we should be in a decent position to actually add payroll from our current spot. We already took our preemptive strike against the economy, if you don't remember. Anyways, we're going to have to spend it some where. Whether it's on middle relief or Adam Dunn and more is another story.
-
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 07:12 PM) No way we have enough money for Dunn. By my count, we have 44 million dollars off the books this offseason. Uh, yeah, we have a ton of money to offer.

QUOTE (scenario @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 05:47 AM) By paying most of Contreras' remaining salary. OP says we're getting money. -
Your all 2009 'Under the Radar" squad

QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 02:00 AM) Exactly. Pablo Sandoval is a terrific mention. It's schematics, but OP mentioned "under the radar" guys that haven't gotten national recognition. Kung Fu Panda has gotten plenty of that this year; I think we can all agree on that. -

So this Hynick guy is pretty decent? How the f*** did we get anyone for Count? -
Fat Sandwich. You will not regret it.

QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 12:11 AM) Pablo Sandoval Really? I'd say he's become one of the bigger stars this season. The nickname doesn't hurt. -

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 05:46 PM) Is that the real lineup? Can we get a source? Yeah it's real. Did you not see on the news today that Kotsay became the first ever human cloned? -
I think our staff is just awful outside of Coop, so I'll just blame Walker just because.

QUOTE (b-Rye @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 07:50 PM) I always thought Macdougal had electric stuff.. I remember he was lights out his first year here. The Sox just gave up on him though.. another terrible move. Complain about how we handled him, but giving up on him at the time we did was absolutely the right move. -
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 01:04 AM) If what Joe Crede has done has deserved a number retire, then so do these guys. JD, Ventura, Black Jack, Pods, AJ, etc. I think on the current team, only Paulie and Buehrle (and Ozzie as manager) should have their numbers retired. Paulie is our captain, and one of the top 3 (Baines, Thomas) hitters in Sox history. Buehrle is porbably the best or second (Pierce) best Sox pitcher in history Ozzie got us a world series. Crede was a nice piece for a few years. Agreed. The whole 2005 roster as a matter of fact.
-
We need to retire his number, honestly.
-
We started Contreras today. If our players haven't, the management has.

Jenks is certainly worth keeping around, even if we are overpaying. -
Congrats White Sox on reaching 100 errors already

So starting Contreras today is the most unexplainable move the Sox brass have made in the last decade, which is really saying something. Watch him not even get DFA'd after this game, too. -
Why am I the only person who has trouble sleeping on hangovers? Because I feel just miserable right now. Came home at 6, wake up at 10 and can't go to bed.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 03:26 PM) Yes but then you said are there of those types in baseball. I answered that. He was the first, and only to come to mind. But that doesnt mean there arent more, i just don't know. And i'm not asking for a guy who even would ever start a game. Just a guy who has played there before so if an in-game injury occurred and our backup was at DH, he could catch for a few innings and know what he was doing. Jake Fox would know what he's doing, even if it wasn't well.

Holy s***. I can't believe we're actually giving him another start. -
I like it how it easy, personally. Soxtalk is great because of the minimum possible number of forums, IMO.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 27, 2009 -> 09:43 PM) Since 2005 the only guy he really turned around was Thornton. He gets way too much praise IMO. Gavin Floyd... Turning Loaiza and Count into the best pitchers in baseball for a period time was no easy task. And Bobby certainly redeemed himself here. His praise is definitely deserved.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 27, 2009 -> 09:39 PM) I just find it odd that people are so inconsistent between him and Walker. AJ, Pods, and Beckham are having nice offensive years and Walker gets no credit. Just about the entire bullpen and 3 out of 5 starters suck and no one criticizes Coop. Look at the track records of each has to work with. Coop has turned a lot of deemed failed pitchers into stars while Walk has been mainly working with guys with good track records.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 27, 2009 -> 09:27 PM) Why do we keep going along with this myth that Coop fixes guys that are flawed? How many guys have gone through our pitching staff that he couldn't turn around? MacDougal Aardsma Riske Koch Vazquez Linebrink Vizcaino Rausch Pena There's probably more I can't think of right now. Because the ones he did have turned into some of the better pitchers in baseball. It's your successes that are going to make you.
