  1. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 08:38 PM) Enjoy. Sometimes I don't get you at all. Wood's rookie year with the Reds was very impressive, especially for a LHP. He struggled last year, but it was more due to uncharacteristic control problems.
  2. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 08:34 PM) It's the 5'9", 140 Torreyes that they all love for god knows what reason, he's not f***ing Pedroia, there is only 1 Pedroia and his power comes from fastballs in his eyes that he has learned to turn and burn on, just because one midget found a way to develop power doesn't mean they all will. Wood is nothing more than a servicable back of the rotation starter with little to no upside. Theo's going to do a damn good job IMO and he did a good job getting something for a player he had no use for (Marshall) but lets not kid ourselves on that trade. I'll take Wood's future over Molina as a starter
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 07:31 PM) I know it's cliche...but you know who's pretty good at helping guys with control issues? The Chicago White Sox pitching coach. Agreed completely
  4. Well, the Padres have an all-world caliber defensive CF, which will save them with Quentin in RF.
  5. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 08:22 PM) Not a good trade for CQ. He's gonna lose homers in that ballpark, and with no DH he is gonna have to run around in that spacious outfield everyday. That's just asking for trouble. He'll be traded by the deadline
  6. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 08:22 PM) No, no they weren't. It made absolutely no sense, they needed a CF not a strict corner outfielder, I said it at the time: the only team showing ANY interest was the Braves and even that was being shot down across the board by anyone familiar with the Braves situation. Who was the team that said they "loved" Quentin. I swear every report I remember reading around the deadline was that teams like Quentin but Kenny was asking for the moon.
  7. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 08:18 PM) Heh, yeah there was so much interest in Quentin at the deadline. We could have gotten a haul! The Braves were very interested, IIRC
  8. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 08:17 PM) Russ is right. Carlos has little surplus value. Injury risk, 1 year to free agency, no guarantee of draft pick compensation, and will receive a substantial amount via arbitration. As I said earlier, I'm more upset we didn't unload him at the deadline when teams were saying they were interested.
  9. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 08:16 PM) What are these trades you speak of!? ie: Sean Marshall Cubs got more for Marshall than Sox have for Quentin and Santos combined
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 08:13 PM) Isn't rebuilding grand? This wasn't rebuilding, it was a salary dump. Everyone around the majors seems to be getting tons in return when they trade away veteran players except the Sox.
  11. QUOTE (toasty @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 07:08 PM) Danks2 I forgot Lillibridge. Wouldn't be surprised to see the Sox go after a lefty hitting outfielder now.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 08:04 PM) If there was a better deal available then it should have been taken. I don't know that there was one, but any rational GM had to know that the odds weren't in their favor holding Quentin in terms of him staying healthy for the rest of the year. The speculation was that KW was asking for more than Houston got for Pence.
  13. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 08:00 PM) We still should have gotten something of value. I'm sick and tired of getting nothing for our guys, with our best hauls ever being merely "fair value". Couldn't agree more. Always seems like KW gives up a fortune to get "his guys", but then he gets significantly less in return (at least since the Garcia trade to Phil).
  14. Pretty underwhelming, especially when you consider how we could have dealt him at the trade deadline last year for a much better package by all indications.
  15. Asik looks horrible this year. And sorry Felix, I'll take Rose over Paul
  16. Rose played great that half, as did Griffin. Hamilton is getting a ton of wide open shots, but it seems like he can't string together a few consecutive makes.
  17. The main reason Ozzie disliked Swisher from what the media reported is that Ozzie felt Swisher was selfish for pouting that he was losing out on at bats to Wise while the team was in a pennant race.
  18. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 29, 2011 -> 04:21 PM) Am I the only person on this board who thought Stewart looked good in his starts and wants to see him at least developed as a starter (I know you do Balta, just hyperbolizing)? I thought he looked awful outside of facing a mediocre Twins lineup. He needs to start the year in AAA and prove he can be effective as a starter, as his numbers in the minors last year weren't very good.
  19. Can I make the prediction that Jamie Dixon will leave Pitt for UCLA after this year? Pitt's program having some turmoil with Birch leaving and Gibbs to be done after this year, and UCLA fans are sick and tired of Howland. If Shabazz doesn't go to UCLA, I can't see Howland being brought back.
  20. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 28, 2011 -> 03:10 AM) They changed the elbowing rules. Flagrant you need some sort of intent. I don't think there was that. It could have been intentional, but that's kind of iffy after the play. Wait, since when they change that rule? Must have been this year. Good to know if true, even though I'm shocked they did with all this concussion stuff.
  21. QUOTE (danman31 @ Dec 28, 2011 -> 03:08 AM) There was definitely contact, but I don't see how any rule should allow that to be flagrant. His elbow swung in sync with the ball. He wasn't flailing and there was no intent. Doesn't matter, rule says any contact on an elbow to the head is automatic flagrant.
  22. So why did Tubby not play Rodney Williams in the first OT?
  23. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 28, 2011 -> 03:03 AM) It was after the play, and I don't think he even touched him to be honest Only way you can't call a flagrant is if you rule that no contact was made.
