  1. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 09:40 PM) Dayan seems a bit more patient than the typicaly Cuban. Albeit its on a very small sample size. The game I saw on Sunday would make me disagree. He was swinging at everything. Any reports on Quentin's health so far this year? Oh, and seeing Beckham, Ramirez, Quentin, and Viciedo bat in an inning is definitely boner-inducing.
  2. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 10:22 PM) The best thing about a top 10 pick is: you normally end up with an excellent trade chip a year after the draft. Regardless of whether or not your pick turns out to be a bust 4 years after the draft, with a good first year in the minors that player gains incredible trade value come July. Look at Vitters...he sucked out of the gate in professional baseball, and then strung together a few good months. This offseason, the Cubs had one of the best trade chips around with him.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 10:10 PM) Jose Contreras then ran up to him and kicked him. Repeatedly. Then he insisted his ankle was still fine and ran away. Um, as much as I hate it, the Aramis/Lofton trade for crap was the best trade in last 10 years. Aramis is going to end up with HOF numbers if he plays another 8 seasons or so.
  4. Something no one talks about with Fields last year is the human aspect of it. He had an extremely promising 2007 campaign, and then he gets sent back to the minors. We know he's a very spiritual, emotional guy, and that couldn't have been easy on him. Then he hurts his knee/leg, and he's having to play on one leg. When they interviewed him during an Okl St football game this season, he said people had no idea how injured he was.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 10:17 PM) Would you rather us have lost a couple more games and be holding Tim Beckham? Either way, it's a good situation to be in. It's a lot better to have a top 10 pick than the 14th-16th pick and still not be very competitive. I'll take Slayer though, but I can't believe I'm rooting for a Georgia Bulldog.
  6. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 10:15 PM) I'm judging it based on what I see in his approach. He is a better hitter than players we've had on our roster. Agreed, we have a lot of AAA/AAAA/mediocre MLB hitters getting a lot of at bats here. Beckham has the ability to be an above average MLB hitter.
  7. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 10:09 PM) Oh Becks, how I love thee so. Exhibit A for why it's not a bad thing to lose a lot of games once your season is over, from a competitive standpoint.
  8. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 09:07 PM) Does Australia have any major league players? Chris Snelling I guess Dave Nilsson isn't walking through that door!
  9. Wow, finish reminded me a little of the Northwestern/Illinois game. Illinois fans have to hate it when Weber takes the air out of the ball when winning with about 5 minutes left. So many times over the last few years, they've gone ahead and lost because of it. He's a great coach, and that has to be his biggest weakness.
  10. Terrible coaching all around at end of Ill/PSU game. Illinois should have assured themselves of a 2 for 1, and Penn St. should have called a timeout when they got the ball with 20 secs left.
  11. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 04:39 AM) Ok so before I get called out for "blaming" the officials, Illinois has gotten some generous calls tonight and the officiating hasn't been bad for the most part. But what the officials are doing right now is exactly why I constantly say refs suck at their jobs. The refs went from calling a pretty loose game to literally calling any contact in the last minutes. And it came out of no where. Jones for PSU got called for almost nothing, then Tisdale picked up his third with almost no contact, and then Davis just got called for almost nothing. Good post..the refs in this game have sucked. Called nothing in first half, and then called a foul seemingly every possession for a portion of the 2nd half. Penn St. got screwed on those 4 straight points, but they've had every chance in this game. Penn St. must be 0 for 20 on 17 foot jumpers from their big guy.
  12. Illinois has the end of the shot clock prayer on automatic tonight.
  13. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 11:01 PM) He doesnt do anything well. Juan Pierre will get 200 hits and steal bases, Jerry cant even do that. And also was a fantastic bunter and hard to strike out.
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 10:40 PM) Lets get this straight on Jerry Owens Cant hit Bad Swing Cant Throw Cant steal a base Zero Power Doesnt walk Doesnt bunt well And he had a chance at making this team why? Mr. "I make the f'n lineups" loves slappy, crappy speed hitters
  15. How'd Jenks look? Did he hit 80 mph on the gun?
  16. QUOTE (tommy @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 11:15 PM) Jerry GIDP. Groin Is Definitely Pulled? Just kidding!
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 09:52 PM) I'd love it if they gave Alexei some more time in CF, and allowed BECKHAM to play some short.
  18. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 09:43 PM) Owens brings NOTHING to the table. Please dont bring him to chicago. Please. We know what needs to happen...but can't say it.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 09:41 PM) Owens Thrown out running on the first pitch. Haha...he is such a bad base runner.
  20. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 08:56 PM) Russell..oh the horror. I'm telling you, Franklyn German may make this team. I said this last week...the Sox should have tried and acquired one more arm for the bullpen this offseason. We're an injury to Linebrink away to sure horror out there from the right side.
  21. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 08:53 PM) I don't think anyone actually enjoys watching Anderson hit. I like watching him hit against LHP.
  22. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 08:50 PM) I think I may be the lone person on this site that would rather see Jerry Owens hit over Brian Anderson. I just absolutely cannot stand to watch BA hit. It's just awful to me. I'd rather see Wise vs righties and Anderson vs lefties. Wise is the best overall base runner on this team. Of course, I would have preferred Alexei in CF, Getz/Grudz at 2b, and Beckham at SS.
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 09:37 PM) Lillibridge looks like he's really too far away from the plate when he's hitting. I just don't think Lillibridge is MLB caliber hitter. The Sox would be better off if they could find a way to have him play in Charlotte this season.
  24. QUOTE (Jimmywins1 @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 09:33 PM) And Ozzie doesn't see it. Nice. As much as I'd like to join in on this belief, I'm sure Ozzie will get a full report on what takes place at this game.
