QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jan 18, 2009 -> 01:27 AM) If Illanoy and MSU played on a neutral court, Illanoy win 8/10 times. No way...MSU played as bad as they possibly could for the first 30 minutes today. I've never seen them have more unforced turnovers. MSU is too good on the boards to be dominated in a 10 game series by the Illini. -

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 17, 2009 -> 10:33 PM) wtf is going on with the refs in this game? what was that shot clock call? i'm guess since they missed whether it was a violation and there was no time left on the clock they just gave them the ball with one second. I can't believe Izzo hasn't been tossed. Terribly officiated game. -
QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 15, 2009 -> 09:16 PM) The only thing that would worry me is that besides McCoy, there would be a whole slew of new kids. But I trust the writers to keep it going. And Tyra > All What can I say? I like em tall. Sorry, Tyra's #4 after Lyla, Julie, and Mrs. Taylor.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 15, 2009 -> 09:28 PM) 3rd season of Friday NIght Lights was good. They can NOT cancel this show. Hopefully the run on NBC is strong. Agreed..fantastic season and a great potential storyline next year (don't read further due to spoilers if you missed 3rd season) with Eric coaching Dillon's rival. The girls looked hotter than ever last night, with Julie's chest on full display and the continue rise of Minka Kelly to superstar status (check out egotastic for her Golden Globes dress). The championship game episode had one of the best moments I've seen on a sports show with Tim leaving his shoes on the football field. It was hard to get my wife to understand what that means due to the tears flowing down her face.

He's going to go back to the Braves. He was at the GT-Duke game last night wearing a Braves hat.

QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Jan 15, 2009 -> 03:43 AM) In all honesty, we've made a few moves this offseason, but nothing big. I honestly without thinking REALLY hard can't even remember a move being made until I hear the name, "Vasquez." STILL no solid starter signed and STILL no leadoff hitter. The idea of Jerry Owens potentially being on the ML roster this year just makes me want to vomit. Would this site allow a one time waiver for us to root for a particular injury to a particular player?
-
QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Jan 15, 2009 -> 03:35 AM) I LOVE how there's always an excuse for not signing/trading for someone on this site. I look at this team and its performance/makeup in recent years and wonder what we have that makes this payroll worth 115 million when our BEST players are coming CHEAP right now??? Seriously, it's pathetic and it BOGGLES MY MIND. There are teams FAR better out there with a much smaller payroll. f***ing MAKE ROOM for someone GOOD like Garland. Jesus... Especially because I'll be shocked if we end up giving Jenks a big deal in the next few years. It's been such a weird, disappointing offseason so far. With how cheap some of these free agents are signing for, I would have thought KW would have made some interesting acquisitions.

Hewitt's job is safe for another year, as he landed the best high school player in the country today. -
Yep, Dye's mechanics in getting behind the ball and/or charging it are some of the worst you'll ever see. The only people that think Dye is good defensively are those that listen to Hawk and DJ too much.
-
A question to think about: did KW intend for this to be what his roster would look like on January 14th, or did he misjudge how the economy/market would play out? I have a very hard time believing that he wanted a roster with so many holes at this stage of the offseason.

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Jan 14, 2009 -> 05:12 AM) I hate this trade everyday. Yep, especially if Yankees get more for Swisher than we did.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jan 14, 2009 -> 05:04 AM) Where is Meeks on all your All-America teams? He was averaging 25 ppg coming into his 54 tonight. Him and Teague should be on top 3 teams after the last few games...remove Jerrells for sure. -

Anyone watching one of the greatest shooting exhibitions ever tonight? Meeks with 52 pts at Tennessee. Also, Favors will announce tomorrow. GT is the huge favorite. -
Reyes or Morton will likely be traded for Swisher.
-
QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Jan 14, 2009 -> 03:03 AM) I love how the article on whitesox.com talks about believing in Marquez and Richard because of how Danks and Floyd turned out... Unless things change, that might be our marketing campaign this coming season.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 03:58 PM) Isn't Figgins known to be a little difficult in the clubhouse? I think if it meant Abreu takes JD's place then do the deal. If not, it would be silly IMO. Figgins could be OC II, just counting the days until free agency. Yep, he supposedly was a pain in the ass last season in the Angels clubhouse. Figgins isn't cheap, so everyone thinking we'd trade Dye for Chone and then have a ton of money to spend is mistaken. I think Chone is a good player though and a perfect fit for this team...but I think the only way the Angels make this deal is if it's a straight up trade (since they hate to deal their prospects).

The third hour of 24 was as good an episode as I can remember.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 03:52 AM) So his skills are NOT diminishing with age, like everyone else ever mentioned as coming to the Sox? No, we mention age for guys like Willits because if you're receiving a significantly lesser talent in return, they better at least be young enough to have a high ceiling.
-
QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 03:44 AM) Every time one of these threads pop up, you are all screwed in the head. Nobody is good enough for us, and our guys are never good enough for the other team. We need a leadoff hitter. but unless he is 24, signed for 5 years at $1 million per, hits .320 with and obp over .400 and 50 steals, he sucks and isnt good enough for us. Oh my god, if he isn't a 8 tiem gold glove winner, his D stinks! Well wake up, these guys dont exist, and if they did they would cost half the damn team to get! So Dye had the most HR and RBI since 2005. What did that get us? Nothing. Both Willits and Figgins are better than sticking Owens out there. Not going to dismiss either of them out of hand, depends what we get back in return to go with them. But wake up people, there isnt any Rickey Henderson in-his-prime out there. Are we really arguing about Dye's impact on the team over the last 3-4 years? Maybe some of us don't think one of the best offensive outfield players in the majors should be traded for utility outfielders.
-
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 02:23 AM) At this point, $11M redistributed may have a much more positive impact on our record in '09 than JD would have with this team as currently constructed. Our rotation is a black hole 4-5 and there's virtually no minor league depth outside of rushing Poreda. I completely buy Kenny's comments about being over budget: look at the offseason so far, and there are very good players out there who look to be hoping to get a yearly salary that is HALF of what they expected this time last year. Ben Sheets, Adam Dunn, Bobby Abreu, Jon Garland, Derek Lowe, Oliver Perez... these guys shouldn't be looking for work almost halfway through January. If you save that money, you're more likely looking at guys like Odalis Perez. The Sox won't sign Sheets, Lowe, or Perez, and Dunn makes no sense for the Sox.
-
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 02:18 AM) How could you ever confuse two players? For some reason Jerry Owens always gets compared to players that are much better than him. The only speedy CFers in baseball that I can think of off the top of my head who are worse than Jerry Owens are Corey Patterson and Joey Gathright. Gathright's a much better player than Owens. Willits isn't young, and with the pitching staff we have this coming season, we're going to need to score as many runs as possible. I don't think it matters though, as the Angels never trade.
-
QUOTE (BearSox @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 02:15 AM) Willits is so much better of a ball player then Owens, it really isn't close. Willits actually knows what he's doing on a baseball field, and plays really good D. Owens is actually one of the worst baseball players I have seen in the past couple of years, right up there with Andy Gonzalez. If it costs us Dye, then just keep what we already have.
-
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 01:10 AM) At this point I'd say screw Figgins. If the Angels would take on Dye's entire salary then I'd rather ask for Reggie Willits and prospects, then spread the money around given all the bargains that are starting to pop up. With that $11 mil saved we could add some pitching and Willits could be the lead off guy. If we were interested, that $11M might be able to get us Ben Sheets, or maybe Garland at $8M + Wolf, Pedro, Freddy, or some other guaranteed 5th starter or reclamation project with upside for about $3M. Ah yes, Willits name brought up again. I'd rather have Jerry Owens than Willits...and that's saying a lot.

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jan 12, 2009 -> 03:46 AM) Well, the greatest team in history has lost twice now and most of the UNC fans have jumped overboard. Fun stuff. Ty Lawson was horrible tonight. Too many turnovers in the first half, and Teague absolutely abused him. -
Freddy Garcia speculation (Closed - Garcia Signs W/Mets)
fathom replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jan 11, 2009 -> 06:15 PM) Freddie Garcia is a battler and also is a pitchr now and not simply a thrower. Obviously health is the issue, but a non-guaranteed contract is a pretty safe thing IMO It's not safe though due to the fact that as long as Garcia is hitting 80 mph on the gun, I can't see Ozzie not putting him out on the mound come April. If we're rebuilding this year and going young at about 5 positions, then you might as well just go all out with it instead of trying to patch is up with mediocre older options.
