QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 03:44 AM) So his 2008 trainwreck should be ignored. OK. Just a hiccup. Some big hiccups to forget with Lillibridge, Marquez, and possibly Bailey
-
Since I'm lazier than s*** tonight, how old is Lillibridge?
-
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 03:42 AM) Should be funny watching him make an ass of himself in RF. That's definitely true...with that pitching staff, you should focus more on defense than offense.
-
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 03:39 AM) Why are so many teams willing to help out the cubs? It really is pathetic. Basically it will cost any team that is not the cubs $24M more than the cubs to acquire him. I don't get it either. They're close to signing Ibanez also.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 03:31 AM) Sorry, I deleted the post, because yeah, it was kinda ludicrous. What I really mean is that there could be an interesting contrast between the All-Star lineup the Cubs'll bring with the Young Guns that the White Sox could have. I think we'll be competitive, yeah, but in no way was I equating the two. Sorry Gotcha, I'll delete my post if you want.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 04:26 AM) I'm gooing to make a bold prediction that if the Peavy and the Bailey trades goes through interleague between the Cubs/Sox is going to be closer then everyone thinks. Peavy V Buehrle Big Z V Floyd Harden V Danks Dempster V Bailey Lilly V CR/AP Awesome. If the Cubs get Peavy, they'll have the best rotation in baseball (at least for the first month). It's silly to compare our rotation to that. No matter what happens in the first 162 games for the Cubs, we can hold out hope that they've lost 9 straight playoff games and Peavy has no balls in the postseason.

QUOTE (scenario @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 04:21 AM) Because except for his 2008 hiccup, Lillibridge has been thought of as an excellent prospect. What were his numbers in 2007?
-
QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 04:18 AM) Sure seems that way.. damn what ever team that helped them get this done. Is Hendry promising Towers a position in the organization when the Padres eventually fire him?
-
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 02:08 AM) I'd even take the Peavy trade at this point. Yeah, can this trade please not happen!
-
QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 01:59 AM) Nix is an "old prospect", Lillibridge is a question mark, Betemit seems more like a utility player, and Getz is unproven (although looked good in limited play last year). I wouldn't mind seeing what Getz can do, but I'd rather move some pieces for a proven All-Star who is a leadoff man. Problem is the price tag. If those players aren't good enough to be considered starters, then KW's trades deserve even more scrutiny.

QUOTE (G&T @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 02:51 AM) He'd be a perfect 1 year stop gap before Beckham is ready. The problem is not the 2nd basemen in the system, it's the players the O's will ask for. You don't give up the players we'd have to for Roberts for him to be a stop gap.
-
QUOTE (Jimmywins1 @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 01:47 AM) Not to mention acquiring him would drain our suddenly respectable farm system. Yep, and it would be for one year, and I doubt he'd sign an extension in this baseball economy.
-
Roberts makes no sense for the Sox now with all of the 2nd baseman in our system. There's a better chance of Roberts ending up in the other part of Chicago.

QUOTE (beck72 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 10:33 PM) SS Furcal LF Willits RF Quentin DH Thome 1b PK 2b Alexei C AJ 3b Fields CF Taveras Give me one speed guy like Willits or Taveras, but definitely not two. -
Penny's a jerk. Given Ozzie's recent issues with getting along with members of the team, KW better be doing significant background research prior to any move.

QUOTE (Wanne @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 10:29 PM) plus...didn't Kenny just sign Corky Miller? Corky Miller is one of the worst hitting players I've seen in the majors.
-
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 10:24 PM) Phillips and Gammons both saying Burnett is getting closer to inking with the Braves... I can't wait for decisions to start being made.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 10:22 PM) They do still have Feliz under contract correct? They want to trade him, I believe.

QUOTE (beck72 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 10:24 PM) I'm not saying trade Dye for Willits. But if Dye is traded, Willits could play LF and Quentin could go to RF. A healthy Willits should be able to post a .285 avg with a .360 OBP. Willits probably wouldn't cost a ton to acquire. I'd still target Furcal for SS and to hit leadoff. Yet Willits is versatile enough to move around the batting order and OF. So who's in CF then? A lineup with the likes of Willits, Taveras, and Getz is too grinderish. -
QUOTE (quickman @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 11:14 PM) for conversation sake any hints on where crede ends up? San fran maybe? Just seems like the market will dwindle on him rapidly. having Boras makes things worse. Philadelphia would be my guess

QUOTE (beck72 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 10:46 PM) Another name that hasn't been mentioned is the Angels Reggie Willits. Though he hit only .194 in over 100 ab's [due to injury], he's only a year removed from him hitting for .293 avg. and an OBP of .391 in 430 ab's. He'd likely come cheap if the sox could convince the Angels to give him up. He sees a lot of pitches per AB and has speed as well. He also could be a nice 4th OFer if nothing else. A switchhitter who can play all 3 OF spots. He is a career .304 minor league hitter with a .398 OBP. While he will turn 28 in May, he does have some potential to help a major league team based on his 2007 year. Again, we need less grinders with good speed and little offensive skill, and get some actual quality MLB hitters if we do trade Dye. I swear some people would be happy with a pitching staff full of projects and and a lineup with all grinders. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 10:39 PM) The Tigers collapse last year was at least to my eyes more a product of some of their big time guys not performing than it was their smaller guys. If the Tigers had: Granderson stay healthy, Cabrera, Ordonez, and Guillen have normal years, Verlander and Bonderman return to form, and Zumaya stay healthy and transition effectively in to the closer's role, I'd be totally willing to believe they could compete in the Central next year. And they're going to add a closer in the next few weeks.

QUOTE (G&T @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 09:39 PM) Unless Peavy REALLY wants to play for the Cubs, and he might, he's got to be dangling that option. Supposedly, he really, really wants to play for them. I have no idea why, as the cold weather will be hell on his fragile elbow.

It was Pena and Delcarmen.

QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 07:44 PM) Would you rather have Patterson or Wise? Wise, without a doubt.
