  1. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 12:57 AM) The Braves are said to be still interested in acquiring a starting pitcher. Now that the Braves have Tex and their LF situation is set with Diaz and Willie, they don't have any room for Thorman. I wouldn't mind seeing a trade of Contreras + cash for Thorman and maybe someone else. Why would we need Thorman? 1B is the last position we need someone at.
  2. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 12:44 AM) I wouldn't put it past the sox to sign up to three current Phillies free agents to be this upcoming offseason. Rowand, Iguchi, and Garcia?
  3. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 11:35 PM) I'd still rather trade someone with value than Contreras. At worst, he'll be placed on the DL or moved into the bullpen. Considering his value, it'd be better to let him remain a member of the White Sox until the end of the season. Perhaps he'll marginally improve. Sorry Flash, but the biggest albatross on this team right now is that 20 million he's owed over the next two years. I'd rather have that money free and available on major league talent than get a bunch of prospects.
  4. We're not going to trade Jenks. We have enough bullpen problems, and Jenks is the one guy KW can count on.
  5. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 08:53 PM) This is one of those axioms in baseball I never understood - that LF is somehow easier defensively than RF. I don't see it. I think RF requires a bit more in arm strength typically, but LF gets more action (more RH hitters). Seems to me they are pretty much the same. But as Dye still has a strong arm but less manueverability, to me, he'd actually be worse in LF than he is in RF. So what makes you think he'd be better in LF? If Dye can't get to a ball down the line, it's a double, and not a triple. He has a strong arm, he just doesn't release it quick enough. This would help him a lot, as he'd have a much shorter throw to 3rd base on plays.
  6. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 08:49 PM) Watching Dye stumble around RF towards the end of the extension should give for some frustrating times as a fan. They should give him a try in LF, and then sign Rowand and place Sweeney in RF next season. Also, if the Sox do extend Dye, then they're going to have to trade one of the starters.
  7. Of course the Sox would offer Dye arbitration, as his salary this season makes it an easy decision. Dye won't accept it though.
  8. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 06:58 PM) I disagree. I'd rather take the picks than two schleps. You have a hell of a lot more confidence in our ability to draft than I do then. Also, if we have a few compensation picks, then it will cut down on the money we can possibly spend on the first pick we have. Don't forget with Dye, it's very possible he signs with Texas. If that's the case, it's a sandwich pick, and not a legit first rounder.
  9. Like someone said, you get WMP and take a chance on him the rest of the year to prove if he can start. Anyone complaining about the names being thrown around in trade rumors today must have forgotten the amazing packages we received last time we were dealing guys at the deadline.
  10. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 05:50 PM) Why? Why can't we get a ss? Why not Lowrie at least Kenny? Why another slow-pitch softball player? I'd take the slow-pitch softball players over grinders. And BTW, Pena is one of the fastest players in all of baseball. He might not know how to steal, but he can at least go 1st to 3rd or score on a single from 2nd.
  11. Pena and Delcarmen are the major league-ready guys that KW wants, as it will also make it easier for him to justify the trade and not saying it's a rebuilding move. People have such insane projections of what we'll really get in trades, but this one would be a strong return.
  12. I'd really like a Pena/Delcarmen deal for Dye. Are people forgetting Dye is a FA in 2 months? About three weeks ago, we would have creamed our pants for a package like this for the guy everyone was calling Dead.
  13. QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 28, 2007 -> 03:49 PM) Happy birthday? More like Happy Wedding.
  14. For purely selfish reasons, I would love for him to break the record tonight. It would be so easy to remember what day it happened on for the rest of my life.
  15. I agree with DA....Dye is going to be a stud the rest of the year. I think he's finally relaxing and not trying to hit 5 homers every game. Combined with him looking much healthier, I hope KW is able to get a Linebrink-esque package for him. But please, please don't trade him to the Cubs.
  16. QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Jul 28, 2007 -> 01:06 PM) Because we forgot that a 24-year-old being in the top 3 of almost every major pitching category in AA is s*** in comparison to a guy lighting up low-A ball. Egbert has four very solid pitches and knows how to pitch, while DLS has two good pitches and needs to develop a third. Don't get me wrong, DLS obviously has more upside than Egbert, but until DLS starts flashing a changeup with consistency, Egbert and Gio will take over for him. As for my Top 10: 1) Gonzalez (by a hair) 2) Egbert 3) DLS 4) Carter 5) Richar 6) Sean Burroughs II 7) Poreda 8) Broadway 9) McCullouch 10) Oneli I'm not saying DLS is a better pitcher. But when it comes to prospect rankings, you know the hard throwing guy with the sexy stats is going to be ranked higher. This wasn't a shot at Egbert....rather, I think people are going to be pleasantly surprised by how high DLS is ranked next year.
  17. Only on this site would Egbert be higher than DLS
  18. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 09:33 PM) Dubee might also be part of a bigger package before the deadline, too. Ya never know. Oh grief, can we please stop this line of thinking now. We kept saying this about every guy we acquired last offseason, and rarely does that quick turnaround happen.
  19. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 09:27 PM) Well, you'll be disappointed because Richar can't hit LHP either. I know, and I expect Ozuna to platoon with him next year. I'd be fine with that platoon. However, you and I both know that the expectations people have for our return package in trades is insane. In all honesty, the only two players we could trade that would really piss me off if we don't get good value for are Garland and Vazquez (or if we trade Dye to the Cubs).
  20. QUOTE(Sox It To Em @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 09:23 PM) I think I'm going to be sick. Why, this is a good thing we traded him. I was fearful we'd bring him back. We need someone who can play better defense and not absolutely suck vs LHP.
  21. Didn't expect much in dealing with Iguchi, and that's what we got. Just remember, KW is horrible at trading his veteran players for prospects. And please stop talking about how we cost ourselves compensation picks, as that's not accurate. Now let's hope Richar shows he can be a major league player.
  22. No one played Baseball Stars? Every batter on the American Dreams was like facing Barry Bonds in his prime.
  23. Not pitching again tonight. It's been quite a while since he last went.
