Buehrle Fest
QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 06:38 PM) Thank you Steff. Good point. The problem is that Fathom is stating his opinion as fact by using a source and not stating it as opinion. I am trying to get what he is talking about and who this person that told him this is. Confusing. You are what you are. Deal with it. Actually, this is something we've been talking about for over a year now in regards to Kemp. I'm not going to say who said it, etc....just trust some of us that know about the situation. Civic told you all you need to know.

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 06:06 PM) And the fall out will be exacerbated by the Score's slip up. Absolutely, as I was telling WHarris last night on here, this season can't get more annoying than it's been.

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 05:56 PM) Told by whom? Why is asshole ok to say on this site? Isn't that vulgar? I guess not, if the filter didn't clear it up. I was using the exact word told to me about him.

Danny Richar Trade
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 05:57 PM) Fields, Sweeney and Anderson from the AAA level will, I think, all be starters at some point in the next couple years. Richar and Getz both show big upside and I'd put them at 50-50 or better, though Getz needs a little more time (and I know many people won't agree with me on Getz). Lucy has a decent shot as well, in a year or two. Then there are a handful of guys that have outside shots (Owens and the like). I can't imagine any way that Anderson will be a starter with the Sox again. Also, I think soxtalk is the only place where anyone considers Getz to be a possible major league starter.

QUOTE(Soxfest @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 05:35 PM) Sox will not resign him and will say at least they tried speech! Yep, and at least that will speed up the decision to trade him. They can't let this situation loom over the organization for another month.

Danny Richar Trade
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 05:42 PM) Richar is definitely someone to watch. I am not sure what you mean by next few years, but I think you are being far too pessimistic on this. The system has gotten better this year, and I see at least 3 players at Charlotte who I'd wager have a better than 50-50 shot at being a starter somewhere. Plus there is Fields. And another 2 guys at B-Ham. That is 5 or 6 guys in AA and AAA that are probably going to start somewhere someday. I understand your point, the system is weak on position player prospects - and I agree. But I think there are a significant few who look like future starters. Fields is the only person who I think can be an everyday starter. Sweeney has to get a lot stronger in order to come close to the lofty expectations some people have for him.

QUOTE(striker62704 @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 05:25 PM) I didn't realize this kid had so much upside. KW really flew under the radar with this one, at least with me. With all this trade talk I've been trying to figure out what our biggest weaknesses are in our minor league system. I'm starting to like our prospects depth. I think we could use more pitching (can never have enough) and maybe a solid OF prospect. Our hitting prospects in the minors suck. There's no one down there that I'm confident can be a MLB starting position player in the next few years.

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 04:27 PM) Can you please explain what his attitude issues are. A fight against another team is hardly what I would call an attitude issue. I can't find anything that states that he is difficult or hard to coach or a bad person in the locker room. What exactly are you talking about? Nope, I'll just go with what I was directly told, and that is in regards to Kemp being a massive asshole and the Sox would never welcome him into their organization.

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 04:13 PM) Why would Kemp never play for the Sox? Because he took a swing at the Birmingham manager? Ridiculous. The White Sox will never take on Kemp and his attitude issues.

QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 04:00 PM) I don't like it at all when deadlines are given. It doesn't help things. It's a public relations thing for the Sox, because if they can't get a contract agreed up in the next 24 hours, they can tell the fans that they gave him the chance to re-sign, but they just were too far apart on the numbers. My biggest fear with this situation is that we trade Buehrle and end up keeping Contreras for the next two years and also have to get rid of Garland this offseason. I highly doubt KW will put himself in another situation like this year where he has to deal with all these rumors during the season about whether or not the player will be re-signed, traded, or finish the year with no contract. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 04:01 PM) I know I'd love Ethier and Billingsley but I also must admit I'm really starting to dig my Betemeit and Kemp for Dye move. Not that it means anything, but I was out with my buddies last night, a couple of which are huge Dodger fans and they were mentioning how they've been reading the Sox as potential trade options and they all agreed that they would probably do that deal (especially when compared to what they would have to give up to get a guy like Tex). Oh and as usual Kalapse, you were right, I dug around to see if Tex signed some special clause and couldn't find anything so Tex is arbitration eligible next year so the Dodgers would hold his rights. Kemp will never play for the White Sox. Also, Dye's quad isn't responding to treatment right now, so it's likely he'd never pass a physical.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 03:47 PM) Fathom...any inside info on that offer? Or just pure speculation on your part? Nah, a tiny bit of information combined with speculation combined with common sense. After last year, I think it's very telling when you see our top scout at a particular game.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 03:40 PM) The Score actually had guys on the air saying it was a done deal. Levine talked to Buerhle's agent who said nothing had changed. Buerhle told Farmer nothing was up. Maybe they are negotiating now, but as far as yesterday, as much as it pains me to write, Levine was spot on. The Score was off. I honestly think both were wrong. There might not have been formal negotiations between the agent and KW/Hahn, but there's been a lot going on behind the scenes this week to get to the point where KW can basically give it 24 hours for a deal to be completed.

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 03:31 PM) I am amazed the Offman still has a job after losing most of his credibility yesterday. Joseph Stalin would have had Offman taken outside and side for bad intelligence. I think Offman deserves more credit, as at least he knew something was going on. Levine was the one who foolishly believed that no negotiations were close to happening. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 03:35 PM) The quote from Barry was "No new talks are underway". He repeated what he was told. Far cry from "the deal is done!!!" Bruce, you mean

According to Barry Rozner, the latest round of negotiations started when Reinsdorf ok'd going to 4 years on the deal.

Andy Gonzalez: SuperSub or Superman?
Gonzalez should be the last player on the bench, and be able to play numerous positions. In no way should he be in the Ozuna role where he gets a lot of playing time next year though.

Offman is still predicting that a deal is done by tomorrow morning, while Levine is reporting about the agent/Hahn meeting today, but nothing is imminent. It's comical to hear Offman state though that the only thing they were saying yesterday is that intermediaries have been talking for a while, and they have an idea about what type of money they're looking for. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 03:08 PM) He must have gotten a really nice offer in the last 24-48 hours... My prediction is it's from the Dodgers for Billingsley and Ethier. I'd just like to state that I'm happy with this deadline, as the last thing I wanted to see happen is to keep Buehrle for this entire year and then lose him during the offseason for only 2 draft picks.

Farmer said that Buehrle wants 14 million a year.....I'm 100 pct sure that's the number he stated. Friday deadline, here we come. If I didn't know better, I might think that this is a ploy by the Sox to make it look like they tried their best to re-sign him, but that they just couldn't agree on the numbers. If he doesn't re-sign, we'll probably see him traded before he can start next week at the Cell. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/wh...-ssep28.article

Quite entertaining watching Buehrle act like he has no clue what's going on during the postgame. QUOTE(chisox2334 @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 02:55 AM) of course their talking... hmmm the agent for Buerhle hes been there, sox send assistant to flordia, rumors heating up about what is going on all over chicago specualting about what could happened. This isnt going to die down. So this might be going on for awhile It will be resolved within the next 2 days.

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 02:13 AM) I don't care it's 93 or 103 as long as it gets people out. Well, maybe if he had the 97 mph fastball again, he could pitch in tied games or go longer than one inning. Nice win....keep the mojo up, and sign Buehrle in the next few days.

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 02:10 AM) While Buerhle has a better era and record, Javy has matching peripheral's with mroe strikeouts. THey have given up the same number of homers in the same number of innings with nearly matching BAA and Walk totals. Simply put: vazquez has been extraordinarily unlucky. Mark's been great no doubt but Javy has had bad luck and terrible run support. His 1.12 whip and 83/23 K-B is outstanding I swear, Vazquez must get unlucky every year. There's a reason Buehrle is 40 games over .500, and Vazquez is below .500 in his career.
