QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ May 5, 2007 -> 03:17 AM) BA Besides that obvious (and sad) truth, Cintron = the only thing resembling backup MI we have. More problems caused by KW not upgrading our bench this offseason (besides our back-up 1B, Toby Hall)

Iguchi might be the worst defensive 2nd baseman in baseball.

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 5, 2007 -> 03:14 AM) But he's not a superstar...yet he and Ordonez were paid like one. I know, a lot of starting pitchers are paid $10 million plus, but it's easier to win with a good pitching staff than the Rangers' or D-Rays' offense. The only saving grace out of the Lee/Pods trade was that it freed payroll that we actually spent.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 5, 2007 -> 03:12 AM) Mack looks so crappy at the plate, fishing for everything. He's very streaky. When he's going well, he's great. When he's slumping, he makes hitting look very difficult. However, we keep playing him every game no matter what. Gotta love our hitting depth in the organization. At this point, I'd rather see Terrero over Mackowiak and for Cintron to leave.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 5, 2007 -> 03:11 AM) Just walked in...gosh, this looks like every Sox game in recent memory. Actually, this has been much worse. This hasn't been just lack of clutch hitting.

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 5, 2007 -> 03:10 AM) And we'd be in the process of selling off Carlos or paying him $16-17 million per season to be a member of a fourth place team. I just feel like Carlos receives so much criticism when he was one of the better offensive players in the last two decades for the Sox.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 5, 2007 -> 03:08 AM) Some great forkballs for Jose there. He's meat if he doesn't have that pitch, but when it's there, he's fine. Even when Contreras was going well, I hated that slider pitch of his. His slider makes me nervous just as Garland's changeup does.

Much better command of his forkball that inning.

QUOTE(Capn12 @ May 5, 2007 -> 03:05 AM) Contreras is just a pile of ass right now. I'm sure his performance after the contract has JR YEARNING to go out and spend on big name pitchers! I hope we don't look back at the 2005 offseason in 5 years and think it caused the downfall of the organization.

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 5, 2007 -> 03:06 AM) At least Erstad made a mistake physically, because he was hustling and trying to prevent a triple play. Much better than walking in there and ducking down like Carlos Lee. Seriously. I'll take my chances with C. Lee's lack of hustle but offensive talent, thank you.

Oh my heavens, a caught stealing! If Iguchi was covering, he would have dropped it.
-
White Sox vs. Angels, 5/4/07 (L)
Contreras keeps throwing that mediocre slider, and they keep hitting it hard. There's not a chance that Contreras lasts this whole year.

QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ May 5, 2007 -> 03:03 AM) Oh boy. Well, that's another deal we'll need to rid. As long as Ozzie/KW is in charge, Erstad will be out on that field.

White Sox vs. Angels, 5/4/07 (L)
PK has more shoulders shrugs than hits this year. And I don't blame Erstad for that slider...he had to break up a possible triple play. Blame Iguchi for another terrible AB with RISP.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ May 5, 2007 -> 03:00 AM) Wait, I thought the way Darin slides hard into was good thing and is something the team needed. Perhaps we should sent Iguchi back down in the order??? Perhaps if we really want Iguchi to bat down in the order, we actually go out and get a #2 hitter.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 5, 2007 -> 02:59 AM) Can someone on this team hit a hanging slider? Iguchi got one 0-1, Crede got one 3-2. What a joke. Nice, Erstad. Iguchi is one of the worst players at hitting hanging pitches in all of baseball. It's a miracle he hit that hanging pitch off of Wells in the ALDS.
-
White Sox vs. Angels, 5/4/07 (L)
Ah, Grinder ball at it's best. I can't stand Iguchi these days either. Let him leave as a FA and find a 2nd baseman who can also hit LHP and catch a throw.

Should be 1 ER.

White Sox vs. Angels, 5/4/07 (L)
Actually a good AB by Sweeney. And don't kid yourself about Anderson....he won't come up unless Erstad is injured.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ May 5, 2007 -> 02:52 AM) It's nice of you to ask right after a horrible play but if I have to explain to you that Erstad's a very good defensive CFer -- well, I don't want to. BRING UP ANDERSON He's not a good CF. He's average, it's just anything after Mackowiak seems good. His arm is atrocious, and he's made too many mental mistakes for a veteran.

QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ May 5, 2007 -> 02:51 AM) I don't forsee that. I like your style Fathom, I'm being selfish and just cannot wait to see what certain posters who anger say or do. It amazes me to see how some people fall in love with prospects, even ones they've never seen before. I think a great chip we could trade is MacDougal. It's not likely he'll stay healthy throughout the year anyways.

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 5, 2007 -> 02:48 AM) Game, set, match. Wait a few more starts until Sheets is on th DL. QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 5, 2007 -> 02:50 AM) The beauty of this situation is we have 2 years and 5 more months of Contreras to look forward to... I thought he signed a 3 yr deal before last year?

White Sox vs. Angels, 5/4/07 (L)
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ May 5, 2007 -> 02:48 AM) They aren't going to win even if they make it to the playoffs, and we don't need to talk about stuff 5 months from now. Come on. This is a SOX game thread. /ballgame Remember the good old days when we used to pound Escobar. Contreras can thank Grinderstad for those earned run(s). Crede used to own Escobar. I couldn't believe how far Crede was standing off the plate. It's just going to make him hit more weak fly balls to the right side. And if Zambrano finds his arm angle, they're going to be damn good. They have a super offense in a terrible league.

Nice hanging slider by Contreras. I can't believe this is the same person who looked so good for about 4 months between 2005 and 2006. His stuff is so mediocre now.
