  1. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 10, 2005 -> 04:23 PM) no, no, no no. Jones?? Come on. He is no replacement for Paulie and has no fit on this team. Paulie needs to be resigned. We get rid of Everett, Frank's salary, resign pauly, and we still have money to play with. Not to mention the possible surge of minor league talent, which could allow us to trade some peices as well. Going younger is much better than getting overpaid no so talented cast offs. For about the 20th time in the post, this is all speculation assuming PK goes elsewhere. We all want him to come back, but he's putting himself in prime position to get high payroll teams in a bidding war for him. Thus, that's why we're talking about scenarios about what happens if he goes to another team.
  2. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Oct 10, 2005 -> 11:57 AM) Jacque Jones is a free-swinging bum. Would you really want him? He's no better than Everett offensively. Take a look for yourself. I know that Jones is a free swinger. However, he's a REALISTIC option that could potentially fill a need for the Sox if PK were to leave. All I know is that the Sox offense needs some lefty hitters. Would Jones be a perfect fit? Not at all. However, there really aren't a lot of likely perfect options.
  3. One of the advantages with moving Dye to 1b is that you're going to have a relatively cheap 30 homer threat at a power position. Assuming that PK signs elsewhere, that opens up a position in the outfield that might be easier to find a big time offensive bat. With pitching seemingly set for next year, KW should have some significant resources to try and upgrade the offense. A name for the outfield that hasn't been discussed much on here is J. Jones. He'd be a good fit if we do have to move Dye to 1b. If you put Jones in RF, and then find a big time DH, and you'd have a good start for the offense.
  4. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Oct 9, 2005 -> 10:05 PM) Hopefully Konerko is resigned so we don't have to even think about this topic. Yep, for 18 million a season
  5. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 9, 2005 -> 09:33 PM) It doesn't matter at this point, they can go up there with the bat on their shoulders and be on first base. Hey, you know I've always said that the best strategy against Marte would be just to not swing, and make him throw 3 pitches over the plate. I'm a little concerned that Cotts might be rusty if he has to come in for a big situation. However, I don't give a s*** how concerned I am, this is f***ing awesome right now. This debate is a lot better than discussing who should be our 1b next season, etc.
  6. I can see a situation where the Sox would bring Marte in (to face a guy he's owned in the past like G. Anderson). I see no reason to have Viz on the roster over McCarthy. The thing about lefty pitchers is that it's not always about how they are vs lefty batters. Sometimes, it's the opposite of that which is important. Some lefty hitters lose a lot of power when they have to face other lefties due to changes in their swings, as well as turning some switch hitters over. Isn't Chone a lot better against righties?
  7. BTW, did we ever find out if it's official that McCarthy still isn't on the roster?
  8. It's this simple: Marte adds a lot more potential value to this team than Viz in a 7 game series. Viz is only useful against a team with righties who struggle vs the slider. However, with Duque in the pen, that basically eliminates any of Viz's value. Even though Marte has been such an enigma, he still has a better chance than Viz and getting a big out against someone like G. Anderson or R. Cano. Ozzie just has to use Marte wisely. If the home plate ump has a small zone, Marte likely has no chance of getting 3 strikes over the plate.
  9. All I know is that this is now 2 straight games where our 2nd receiver has helped the other team more than they've helped the Bears.
  10. QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 9, 2005 -> 08:02 PM) Thomas Jones has been basically the only bright spot on the offense this entire season so far. And like we've been saying since the draft, thankfully we drafted Benson instead of a WR that could help this team.
  11. No one is saying they don't want PK back. However, he's put himself in a position where he will be the most coveted FA on the market. We all want him on the White Sox next year, but that might not be feasible. Personally, I'm just thrilled that at least the reason his salary will likely be so high is because he's had two very good seasons, and is finishing off extremely strong. It's a lot better than the way the Marlins are going to lose Burnett, even though he sucked down the stretch.
  12. I've been a little concerned lately that there doesn't seem to be a lot to suggest that PK is coming back to the Sox next year. If he does leave, I would still rather keep Dye in RF, and try to upgrade at DH and 1B. Oh well, we have plenty of time to worry about these issues.
  13. As could have been predicted, the Tribune will run a story tomorrow saying how all of our divisional rivals are going to try and sign PK.
  14. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Oct 8, 2005 -> 03:14 PM) Has Luis Vizcaino done enough you think to be kept on the playoff roster? Rest assured though, in a pressure situation that calls for a lefty, Neal Cotts better be the guy coming to the mound, not Damaso Marte. Having Duque and his sliders in the bullpen basically eliminates any reason to keep Viz on the team. Struggles or not, I'd rather have Marte coming in to face someone like G. Anderson than I would Viz.
  15. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Oct 8, 2005 -> 03:30 PM) Yeah, I've got no doubts teams will be offering him a Richie Sexson like deal, and I was reading some rumors tonight about Detroit and even Minny (very unlikely) possibly getting into the bidding for him. I'm fairly confident that PK won't sign with another AL Central team. He's a classy player, and if he leaves, I think it will either be for the Red Sox, Mets, Dodgers, or Angels.
  16. QUOTE(YASNY @ Oct 8, 2005 -> 03:27 PM) For the record: I've been critical of the negativity on this site over the past couple of months. I want you to know that I did not consider you one of the culprits. You were "concerned", and you always had a well thought out reason for your concerns. I agreed with you in many instances. I take a positive outlook at things, but I am well grounded in reality. You may not have been quite as optimistic as me, but you certainly were not a bastion of negativity. Enjoy the rest of the post season. I've never had more fun watching sports than I did the first two games of this series. The game yesterday was more difficult on me because I was at work for the first 6 innings, so I basically had to rely on the game thread for information and details. How can anyone not be enjoying this? I hate the Cubs with a passion, and 2003 around this time was just awful. Now, the situations are reversed, and it makes it even sweeter (if that's possible). However, I don't think there's going to be thousands of fans watching the Sox games outside of the Cell while the game is going on.
  17. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Oct 8, 2005 -> 03:25 PM) IIRC, in one of Phil Rogers articles this week, he was saying we shoulg get about 2M from this series, 4M from the upcoming series, and 5M from the World Series if we make it. I think most of that money will go into re-signing Konerko and the raises for Jon and A.J though. But it's good we'll see increases in ticket sales etc. hopefully as well. That can only help. PK's contract is rising nearly every week. It worries me that I think some big time payroll teams will go all out for him. It will basically boil down to whether or not PK wants to stay with the White Sox, or he'll go to the highest bidder. After reading what Rowand said this week, PK is definitely the team leader of the Sox.
  18. Has Manny ever said that he would only play in the outfield, and not DH? He seems so oblivious to things, I doubt he'd really care at this time.
  19. QUOTE(YASNY @ Oct 8, 2005 -> 03:20 PM) Oh, the payroll will increase. Not only did we have the attendance jump this year, but we'll have a surge in season ticket buyers over the winter. Exactly! That's why myself, and so many others, were so nervous about a potential collapse that could have led to the White Sox missing the playoffs. That would have set back the franchise so much. Now, you get in the playoffs, and anything can happen. So far, so good! There's a lot of buzz with the White Sox now, and like you said, there will be a surge in season ticket buyers.
  20. There's a huge part of this story that we really haven't mentioned: Marquee players are going to want to start playing for the Sox and Ozzie (especially latino players). That's a huge advantage we could have when it comes to free agency, etc. Not only that, but I now can't see how our payroll won't increase.
  21. Watched CBS, NBC, ABC, CSN, CLTV, Fox, and WGN throughout the night to see different Sox coverage.
  22. All along, I wanted Viz to be the guy left off the roster. I just don't see much of a point to keeping him on the team with the rest of the relievers we already have. Marte used to match up very well against a lot of the Angels lefty batters.
  23. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Oct 8, 2005 -> 07:37 AM) Damon will sign with the Yankees. It's basically a done-deal already. Don't be shocked if the Cubs offer him a fortune.
  24. fathom

    Hey hey

Berman rooting for the Red Sox just made it all the sweeter. He's been a parody of himself for a long time now, and to see the Red Sox get their ass kicked like that made it the perfect scenario.
  25. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Oct 8, 2005 -> 02:15 PM) Thx Fathom, I can always count on you for a positive spin. Don't get too down yet, the Sox could still lose the next series. Good grief. Yep, I'm really sitting here hoping we lose. Pods is not a good defensive outfielder, and Manny is worse on defense. I just don't think the trade will happen due to money reasons, chemistry reasons, and personnel reasons.
