One of the advantages with moving Dye to 1b is that you're going to have a relatively cheap 30 homer threat at a power position. Assuming that PK signs elsewhere, that opens up a position in the outfield that might be easier to find a big time offensive bat. With pitching seemingly set for next year, KW should have some significant resources to try and upgrade the offense. A name for the outfield that hasn't been discussed much on here is J. Jones. He'd be a good fit if we do have to move Dye to 1b. If you put Jones in RF, and then find a big time DH, and you'd have a good start for the offense.

I can see a situation where the Sox would bring Marte in (to face a guy he's owned in the past like G. Anderson). I see no reason to have Viz on the roster over McCarthy. The thing about lefty pitchers is that it's not always about how they are vs lefty batters. Sometimes, it's the opposite of that which is important. Some lefty hitters lose a lot of power when they have to face other lefties due to changes in their swings, as well as turning some switch hitters over. Isn't Chone a lot better against righties?

BTW, did we ever find out if it's official that McCarthy still isn't on the roster?

It's this simple: Marte adds a lot more potential value to this team than Viz in a 7 game series. Viz is only useful against a team with righties who struggle vs the slider. However, with Duque in the pen, that basically eliminates any of Viz's value. Even though Marte has been such an enigma, he still has a better chance than Viz and getting a big out against someone like G. Anderson or R. Cano. Ozzie just has to use Marte wisely. If the home plate ump has a small zone, Marte likely has no chance of getting 3 strikes over the plate.

All I know is that this is now 2 straight games where our 2nd receiver has helped the other team more than they've helped the Bears.

No one is saying they don't want PK back. However, he's put himself in a position where he will be the most coveted FA on the market. We all want him on the White Sox next year, but that might not be feasible. Personally, I'm just thrilled that at least the reason his salary will likely be so high is because he's had two very good seasons, and is finishing off extremely strong. It's a lot better than the way the Marlins are going to lose Burnett, even though he sucked down the stretch.

I've been a little concerned lately that there doesn't seem to be a lot to suggest that PK is coming back to the Sox next year. If he does leave, I would still rather keep Dye in RF, and try to upgrade at DH and 1B. Oh well, we have plenty of time to worry about these issues.

As could have been predicted, the Tribune will run a story tomorrow saying how all of our divisional rivals are going to try and sign PK.

There's a huge part of this story that we really haven't mentioned: Marquee players are going to want to start playing for the Sox and Ozzie (especially latino players). Watched CBS, NBC, ABC, CSN, CLTV, Fox, and WGN throughout the night to see different Sox coverage.

All along, I wanted Viz to be the guy left off the roster. I just don't see much of a point to keeping him on the team with the rest of the relievers we already have. Marte used to match up very well against a lot of the Angels lefty batters.
