  1. QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 03:19 PM) Yes he did. Which means nothing. True, but Walker is the other Cubs player besides Lawton and H'worth who we know cleared waivers. If Levine should ever know about a story, it would be one with two Chicago teams involved.
  2. QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 03:19 PM) Walker could DH against RHP. Everett has been horrid from the left side of the plate. Don't forget that Walker is having a great year against LHP also. He'd easily be one of our top 3 hitters. Something about Walker I've always respected is he's a tough out at the plate. He's not someone who will just give up an out by swinging wildly at a first pitch slider, etc.
  3. Did Levine specifically state the Sox were interested in Walker?
  4. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 02:54 PM) I'd love to have Walker. But as a back-up? He'd get a lot of playing time. With Iguchi struggling, I'd love to have Walker instead of Willie as the back-up. Also, Walker could get some time at DH if Everett is in the field or needs a rest. FWIW, I've heard the Cubs didn't even put Nomar on waivers.
  5. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 05:52 AM) And I don't really like Michael Kay, either. Talk about being on Jeter's knob... Did you hear about the Juan Rivera debacle with M. Kay this season?
  6. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 05:26 AM) I've noticed there aren't many good anouncing teams anymore. Rarley do I come across some that are entertaining. The Twins announcers have grown on me a bit and I love Michael Kay (Yanks announcers). A's have absolutely hideous announcers (well if they have the same ones this year as last). For me, the most entertaining announcing crew belongs to the Milwaukee Brewers. I love the enthusiasm they have. The Saturday game vs the Twins earlier this season when Prince Fielder hit his first home run was one of the best broadcasts I've ever watched.
  7. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 02:23 PM) It just showed how important Jermaine Dye is to this offense when he's on. Most of his homers have come to opposite field shots, so he's not exactly pulling the ball everytime he's up. Blum seems to have fitted in nicely even though his offensive stats don't exactly wow ya, but he hits righties better than lefties, which is something we need more of. And although Uribe hasn't had good splits this month, most people think he's taking a lot more pitches, being patient and it will come around for him. We just need to get Iguchi back in a good frame of mine at the plate. I don't know much about his Japanese baseball career, but it seems to me like he's lost a lot of confidence at the plate, as well as in the field. I really wish that when we rest him, we let Ozuna fill in for him. Ozuna is playing this year the way we wanted Willie to play. Frequent contact, bunting, slap hits, and aggressive on the bases. And yes, Dye is the key to this offense. He's either really good, or really bad. The ball has really been flying off of his bat the last few games. Ozzie....Dye needs to play every game! BTW, kudos to Ozzie for a good 2nd game lineup last night. I think a lot of us were nervous about what type of "Sunday" lineup he would throw out there. However, I get the sense that Ozzie really wanted to right the ship, and figured that there was no room to fool around.
  8. While it would be nice to use McCarthy for spot starts the rest of the way, it wouldn't be fair to our main 5 starting pitchers who have busted their ass this season getting us to this point.
  9. QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 03:40 AM) Hey did you guys know Ozzie decided on the 4 man rotation for the first round? Bryan Dolgin just said that. I love playoff rotation talk in August
  10. QUOTE(ceffa2000 @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 03:36 AM) Its not like our top 3 rocked the last 3 games. It may help a lot to give them some rest. This is also why we keep a 12 man staff. Brandon could work well 2/3 times and our staff can pick up the rest. Yep, and the time before, our big 3 were dominating.
  11. We owe it to our team to pitch one of the core 5 starters in the games against the Twins and Indians.
  12. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 03:04 AM) He pitches without balls? 'Cause he had a bad start against Texas, he isn't gutsy? This year, he has bad ERA's against Boston, Texas, Toronto, and Arizona. Does that make him not gutsy? Of all years to complain about Garland, this is not the year. He was amazing in the first half of the year, and he's been solid in the 2nd half of the year. I'm sure a lot of teams would be happy to take this testicle-free pitcher off of our hands.
  13. Buehrle's an ace no matter what attribute you judge....besides pitch speed. If that's the case, you can have Kerry Wood and his 10 million dollar contract. The only complaint you'll get about Buehrle from some of us is he's struggled against the tougher competition. However, that subject has been beaten to death, so there's no reason to bring it up again.
  14. QUOTE(the southside tiger @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 03:00 AM) He does pitch without balls! How is that wrong? Garland is not a gutsy pitcher! Are you happy, is that politically correct and sensitive enough for you? This is pathetic. Dont be so damn sensitive. Hey, we're not the ones making the rules. However, the people who make the rules have gone out of their way to ask us to clean this site up. If you don't like the rules, then I'm sure the ESPN message boards would be great.
  15. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 03:01 AM) you guys acting like cubs fans. Well, we were discussing trading Contreras all week in the trade winds in regards to offseason transactions.
  16. QUOTE(the southside tiger @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 02:57 AM) One great outting and suddenly Jose is gone and BMac is guaranteed a spot in next years rotation? First, Orlando should be gone instead of Jose, and second, why dont we watch to see if BMac can keep this up? You guys sound like Cubs fans. Wow, simply wow. It's called baseball economics. Nothing like having a starting rotation that is going to make about 35-40 million dollars when your payroll is a little above average. That's a recipe to have a cheap offense.
  17. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 02:52 AM) No, but he needs to be in the rotation next year. You can't have every single guy in your rotation making $5 million plus. If you can get McCarthy to be a good #4 starter next year (with potential to be a lot better), then that's huge. Hell, I'm sure Oakland is extremely happy that they're winning with all the young guys -- that group is going to be together for at least three years... I'm very, very, very confident that we'll trade Contreras. Along with Marte, they'll be our two chips we use to try and get a corner infielder. And yes, McCarthy should be in the rotation next year. Even if he went 2-10 tonight, I would have said that's in our best interest.
  18. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 02:50 AM) This is the Brandon Mccarthy we're going to be seeing next year and for years after that. Brandon for whatever reason didn't throw his change at all in his first few stints, now he's using it and it's just a very good pitch. Brandon has one hell of a curve, a very solid change and a good fastball, not to mention he throws strikes and knows how to pitch. He is going to be a good one. Great f'n job Brandon From my viewpoint, his change-up was more of his out pitch tonight than his curveball was. That was great to see.
  19. Great job McCarthy. Now, who's going to start the thread asking how many Cy Youngs can he win in your best B. Musberger voice?
  20. I feel sorry for Brewers fans that had to deal with Pods in CF for the whole season last year.
  21. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 02:46 AM) I wasnt aware that this game was over. This game is over. I'm the last person to ever say something like that. However, if we lose tonight, I will ban myself from this site forever.
  22. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 02:45 AM) I don't know how to judge today. I'm happy we won. But we lost one in the L column. But we also lost one in the magic number column. I've questioned how to look at it (so long, of course, as we pull out tonight's game). Right now, we just have to win games. This should definitely satisfy all the .500 prognosticators though. Considering we lost with Buehrle and Garland, I think the team gained a lot of confidence with McCarthy tonight. What happened in the 2nd game of this double header is what needed to be done.
  23. QUOTE(Whitesoxfan56 @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 02:45 AM) with the twins gaining 1/2 game Ah yes, I've stopped worrying about them. In order for them to get back in the race, they're going to have to win 4 or 5 out of 6 vs the Indians. That would really help us out.
  24. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 02:43 AM) If anyone cares, Cleveland got rained out, and Minnesota is about to win. So we're right back where we were at this time last night.
