The White Sox address some Soxtalk 2007 discussion topics
Kalapse replied to knightni's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Clint Barmes will be lucky to start another game in the big leagues. He's older than Uribe, oft-injured, a mediocre defender and an awful hitter. His rookie season was a pretty cut and dry case of Coors inflation. -

You don't have to exercise the option, KW could just buy him out for $300k and bring him back on a 1 year deal worth less than $5M with an option for '09. That's if Juan can't find a decent multi-year deal elsewhere. SS really shouldn't be a huge problem to fill though, there will be 3-5 pretty good SS available for trade this offseason and the Sox actually have a decent trading chip in Garland. -
The candle is almost completely out of sight now with only a tiny bit of the top visible. The mold on the left side has grown and is now hanging down and some new black mold is growing on the inside. Not much further to go.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 26, 2007 -> 11:01 AM) Am I the only one who knows how to use the Google here? Or you could just read post #20 in this thread.

QUOTE(gosox41 @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 10:35 PM) There's an option on his contract for a 3rd year. Don't know if it becomes guaranteed based on # of at bats (I think it is) or if it's something the Jays or Frank can exercise. Bob That's an interesting piece of information someone should look up the contract and post the details in this thread.

Frank has a $10M team option for 2009 that becomes guaranteed with 1000 PA in '07 and '08 combined or 525 PA in 2008. So if Frank has just 376 PA next season he'll have $10M guaranteed to him for 2009. So in other words, the only way Frank retires following the 2008 season is if he's suffers a catastrophic injury.

Today's game is in HD on Comcast. Craziness.

Trading Fields and/or Danks for a star
Kalapse replied to NCsoxfan's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 03:41 PM) In no particular order, I'll take Albert Pujols Alex Rodriguez Miguel Cabrera Curtis Granderson Vlad Guerrero Joe Mauer Victor Martinez Mark Teixeira Hanley Ramirez Prince Fielder Chase Utley Ryan Howard David Wright Grady Sizemore Matt Holliday over Carl Crawford without even the thought of a second thought. Carl Crawford is not an impact player, and he is not a guy you build a team around. He steals a lot of bases, hits about .310, and doesn't put up much power. Top 10 leadoff hitter, possible top 50 hitter in the game. Not to mention Jose Reyes, David Ortiz, Chipper Jones, Lance Berkman, Ichiro Suzuki, Carlos Beltran, Jimmy Rollins, Derek Jeter, Alfonso Soriano and Travis Hafner and on the cusp Alex Rios, BJ Upton, Chris Young, Nick Markakis and Robinson Cano. -
Apparently Hawks execs met today with Comcast execs to get some home games on TV. At least that's what I heard on the Score.

f*** the Red Sox, there's no team I hate more.

Yes. And you're right, it's 7 minutes not 9.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Oct 21, 2007 -> 09:22 AM) i dont know if anyone is following the "viral" marketing campaign for the new batman flick "The Dark Knight" Like a hawk. There's rumors that they'll be releasing a 9 minute prologue in December, can't f***ing wait.

QUOTE(Vance Law @ Oct 18, 2007 -> 10:43 PM) Who is Vargas? What do people who know who he is think of this? A BAD starting pitcher who I would want NO part of. He's had an ERA+ above 88 twice in his 5 year career all of which has been spent in the terrible NL. He's 30, has a decent arm but can't keep the ball on the ground and gives up a s*** LOAD of homeruns. In other words, not the sort of guy the Sox should be receiving in exchange for their most promising prospect. That would be an awful trade.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Oct 18, 2007 -> 12:54 AM) How many more years before he hits FA? 2

You should jar some air and save it for later. What a terrific fragrance. Found this on some Do it Yourself website: Seriously though, skunk musk is good s***.

Hall only has $1.91M remaining on his deal, that's nothing. If they want to dump him, they'll dump him regardless of his contract. Johjima is a free agent after next year.

QUOTE(rockren @ Oct 13, 2007 -> 12:44 AM) I agree that Crede couldn't put up the numbers that Burrell would offensively, but so what? Burrell is overhyped and overpaid. Since his coming out season in '02, he's only hit .250. He strikes out once every 3.5 ABs. That ballpark he plays in is a joke and it has impacted his numbers. The past three years since that park opened- Burrell as hit .284 at home and a woeful .248 on the road. I'd rather roll the dice with Crede at 3rd next year with Fields in Left. Don't waste 6-7 million and stay the hell away from Burrell. In 2006 his OPS was higher on the road than it was at home so perhaps he can hit a little bit on away from Philly. f*** batting average, seriously, f*** it. He can hit .250 all he wants as long as he posts that stellar .388-.400 OBP. He could hit .220 as long has his ISOd was above .150. For the 2007 season Citizen's Bank Park and The Cell had nearly identical park factors so if CBP is really effecting is production as much as you let on then the Cell should have a similar effect. If you could guarantee me that Burrell will put up an overall OPS around .890 next season and kick the s*** out of lefties (there's really nothing in the numbers that tells me he wouldn't do either) I'd have no problem with him taking the LF job even if it meant paying close to all of his $13M salary.

Trading Fields and/or Danks for a star

QUOTE(max power @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 08:32 PM) According to Kalapse, Danks is pre arb next year. What exactly does pre arbitration eligible mean? What is the process of figuring out his salary? He'll make $400K next year. Pre Arb just means the club can pay the player as much as they please as long as it's no lower than the minimum (400K). The Sox could choose to give him a little extra and pay him $420K or so if they want. -
QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 06:35 PM) Lets stay away from trading with the Phils for awhile and try a new team. Whats the point of trading for a guy who will add more to the payroll? If Crede is healthy and that is a big IF, he can definitley match the offensive #s of Burrell. Save that money, put Fields out in left. The first move i would do is trade either Garland or Contreras for some bullpen and/or a SS or possibly even some solid prospects. THe second thing i would do is sign that new CF. However, i wouldn't be surprised to see Crede go this offseason as he is going into his contract season and Fields is waiting... A Garland-Crede package could bring back some good stuff... Okay i really have no clue WTH KW will do... When does Hot Stove start? No he can not.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 12:51 PM) I'd just as well try to swing a deal for a forgotten Cfer. Maybe the Angels would willing to part with Juan Rivera (they seem to have filled there OF and he wasn't exactly starting a ton for them even after coming back from injury). He's also a guy that in 2 of his 3 full seasons has posted an 800+ OPS and the other season posted an OPS in the .700 range. He has a strong arm and can play all 3 OF positions. Not sure how many more years he has left till FA, but he doesn't have a ton of service time for a 29 year old. He's a free agent after the '08 season.
-
The Sox won't get s*** if Crede walks unless he has a pretty big year next season. Burrell on the other hand will likely be a Type A free agent, Crede at best would be a type B since his 2007 season was such a disaster.
-
The speculation you read on that site is pretty much useless but Burrell for Crede? f***.Yes. I wouldn't even think twice.

Trading Fields and/or Danks for a star
Kalapse replied to NCsoxfan's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 10:34 AM) Javy is a #2 in a good year, and is usually a 3-4. Ace pitchers are Johan, Webb, Peavy, Sabathia, Beckett; Vazquez's name doesn't belong with that group of pitchers. I'd add Oswalt to that list as well. -
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 10:27 AM) The Angels are probably getting the short end of the deal as it is, giving either Santana or Shields; why would they then include another high ceiling arm as well? They are taking on $20 million, getting older than the Sox, and are forced to resign Garland. Why would they take on $20 million that way when they can just spend $10 mill more, get ARod, and keep Shields, Figgins, and Kotchman, especially knowing how gunshy they have been about making trades in the past? It's actually $24M next season. For $24M they could probably get Bonds and maybe Jason Jennings or for sure Carlos Silva and keep all their young talent.

Miscellaneous "White Sox" Trade Notes

QUOTE(SoxAce @ Oct 11, 2007 -> 05:30 PM) Why need be? I've got that one in the bag. Oh, and if I'm not mistaken, they usually do that awards garbage around Novemberish/Decemberish. Last year we did them in late January.
