QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 09:57 PM) Corey Patterson has always been awful and I believe is represented by Boras. He is represented by Boras, which is why the Sox probably won't even talk to Patterson but I'd still love for it to happen.
-
If he were willing to accept such a role, I'd love to have Corey Patterson coming off the bench as the 4th OF/speed off the bench guy. He's only 27 years old, great defensively, great speed, very good basestealer and he's having a pretty terrible year so he could be signed at a very reasonable price despite his immense talent.

Boone Logan is the best player on this team damnit.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 08:31 PM) Seriously. Have Terrero and A-gon already taken more walks than Erstad did? Erstad drew a walk every 14 AB, Terrero: 11.71, Gonzalez: 7.11
-
Heh, Fathom don't know s***.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 06:46 PM) Julio Ramirez minus the arm. Julio Ramirez knew how to work a count. JR drew a walk once ever 19.2 ABs, Owens . . . every 31 ABs.

I'd actually like to see Podsednik DFA'd and Thomas Collaro promoted to start in LF. He'll never be anywhere near a starter in the bigs and will probably be a comatose man's Russell Branyan (less power, more K's, WAY less plate discipline) but since the season is already lost why not have some fun.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 06:34 PM) The White Sox are crying about losing their speed. Pods and Erstad. Have they not been paying attention the last several years? Why would it shock anyone they are injured? Its the reason they don't get huge contracts. Podsednik and Erstad are two of the slowest "speed" players that you'll ever see. This team was doomed from the beginning.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 06:25 PM) Owens not playiing for Charlotte. On a side note, Player IP H R ER BB SO HR ERA Sisco 4.0 2 1 1 1 6 1 4.50 so far. I'm really excited for an Owens-Terrero-Gonzalez outfield. Impressive. For as bad as the outfield has been to date, this is the worst we've seen.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 06:21 PM) What do you think about Dye? I've got my number at 6. Innings. 24.5 PAs before he misses another game due to a tweak. So a little over 5 games. I'm being very generous.
-
Do you suppose it's accurate to say that Jerry Owens is a poor man's Nook Logan?
-
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 06:18 PM) My over/under for him was 10 games. Go back to the archives. Vegas needs me. I had my over/under at 39.5 plate appearances. Suck on that.
-
Jerry Owens is one of the worst hitters I've ever seen. I don't think he's hit a single ball hard in his major league career.
-
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 06:13 PM) Just release him already. He can take Grindy McGrinderson with him too. Agreed. He lasted 10 games/37 PAs before hitting the DL the first time this season and 9 games/39 PAs before his second appearance on the disabled list. So in 78 team games, Podsednik has appeared in only 19 of them. He needs to go away.

QUOTE(danman31 @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 12:10 AM) Quiz time. Who has the lowest ERA: C.C. Sabathia, Justin Verlander, or Jon Garland? Beckett, Escobar, Bonderman and Halladay as well. But apparently a pitcher's W/L record is all that matters.

Matt Bennett inducing the inning ending GIDP. Outstanding. Straight from the Israel Baseball League Website: Oh goody, it's like Hockey. -

Considering some of the odd places the Sox are pulling players from (Orlando - Brazil), I wouldn't be surprised if the Martinez' and Rodriguez' of Bristol are soon joined by a few Goldstein's and Rosenberg's. I will likely be watching as well. Former Angels prospect Abel Moreno is starting for the Pioneers. -
QUOTE(BearSox @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 10:03 PM) Garland or Buehrle should have at least been on the final ballot. Over Roy Halladay and his ERA that's a run higher than either of them or his WHIP which is .10 higher.
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 22, 2007 -> 11:11 PM) The over under on PAs before Podsednik's inevitable return to the DL is 39.5. I'm assuming Podsednik will hit the DL sometime in the next 48 hours, just a hunch. So for anyone who played the over, tough luck. Pods only made it 38 PAs.

QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 09:36 PM) i know hes been killer on lefties...but 20 IP this year with a 4.09 ERA makes you one of hte best relievers in the game, i hope you were joking He's a LOOGY and when used properly he's pretty much the most effective player in the game at that job. So no, I'm not joking. -
Halladay has been incredibly mediocre. I was surprised to see Granderson didn't make it. Curtis > Torii.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 09:15 PM) I think Kalapse made a post a couple days ago or so that was something like this... I'm reading this thread from the last post through the first so pardon me if I missed anything important at the beginning. Here is that post you speak of: QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 01:01 PM) A few thoughts: 1.) Bobby Jenks probably has the most trade value of any player currently on the 25 man roster. The last closer I can think of who was traded at the deadline was Ugueth Urbina in 2003. He was 29, a 3 month rental and struggling mightily. The Rangers were able to coax the #31 prospect in baseball (Adrian Gonzalez) away from the Marlins at the beginning of July in exchange for Ugy. Now what if you put a 26 year old, hard throwing closer who is currently pitching well and still a year away from arbitration on the block? What do you fetch in return then? 2.) The Sox could hold the balance of power in both leagues with Buehrle and Jenks on the block. A team looking for a closer who's locked up for another 4 years and a top flight SP who is possibly a rental could sell the farm in a blockbuster deal to acquire both and make a push. You could end up playing 10 teams off each other for Jenks. 3.) Bobby seems to have an excellent reputation around baseball, considered by most to be a very good and reliable closer despite the fact that he has yet to pitch more than half a season (continually) of consistently good baseball. 4.) The guy is still like 50 pounds overweight, has been losing velocity since July of last season and has an arm that's being held together by a couple screws. I honestly don't think he'll make it to free agency before suffering a catastrophic injury or just becoming completely ineffective. 5.) If the Sox are going to truly rebuild, as in trade off most of the older, more expensive players for young unproven talent then chances are they're not going to be even close to competing over the next 2-4 years. Meaning a closer of Jenks' caliber really isn't needed and becomes a luxury at that point. And considering the kind of talent Detroit, Cleveland and even Minnesota are going to have on their major league rosters in the coming seasons I'm not sure an all out rebuilding phase would be all that bad of an idea.

They should just shut him down for the rest of the season so he's at 100% come Opening Day of 2008 since you just know they'll be bringing him back for another go of it again next year.

Not only is he one of the best relievers in the game, he's one of the best personalities as well. The Legend lives on. -
QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 05:15 PM) Royce Ring has 6.1 innings pitched this year. Why is he even on this list? He's inherited 3 runners this year and 2 have scored. That's not good.
