  1. QUOTE(BobDylan @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 09:32 AM) Based on KW's history rumors are worthless. Based on that, I reply in these threads for pure entertainment. Jim Thome's name was bantered about around Thanksgiving of last year. Sometimes rumors like these do have legs.
  2. Miguel Tejada will never play for the White Sox, this is something both KW and Ozzie agree on.
  3. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 11:11 PM) I don't think that would be a problem with Alex. No but injuries sure as hell are.
  4. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 09:56 PM) Remind me again how many GG's Uribe has? *yawn*
  5. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 04:51 PM) To keep prospects or to turn them into another player...i just dont like trading someone you know will be good for the unknown. I very much dislike the premise of prospects. Yes but what did he say. Did he say the two teams have discussed a Garland for spects deal? Was he speculating? Did he say a deal was almost done?
  6. I suppose you can never have enough bald white guys in your pen.
  7. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 11:21 AM) not another god forsaken Vasquez, i hate that last name. Javier Vazquez Carlos Vasquez
  8. QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 12:17 PM) I really don't know what to think of this trade yet, I'm interested to see what Vasquez has to offer. Anyone else think he might make the opening day roster? He did pitchin AAA last year, and he is a lefty..... Actually he pitched in AA last year, he's never pitched an inning at Iowa.
  9. QUOTE(easyw @ Nov 15, 2006 -> 10:15 PM) For players with about 400 At-bats, In 2005, I count 8. In 2006, 13. But the real point to my statement was that there are PLENTY of players out there with an average over .300 and an OBP of about .400 (usually a little less) - something neither Roberts or sPods appears capable of accomplishing. None of which are leadoff hitters.
  10. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 07:10 PM) It looks like salaries are going through the roof again. At espn.com Jerry Crasnick says a guy like Adam Eaton is going to get a 3 or 4 year deal worth at least $8 million a year, and Juan Pierre is going to get at least $30 million for 3 years. Those would be crazy contracts. When people on here said Pierre would get $8 million a year, I thought they were crazy. Turns out they were just lowballing. I so called Juan Pierre getting $9M+ a year about 2 months ago.
  11. Verlander took home the honors in the AL.
  12. Tillman had a huge game, though it's unlikely that he'll actually recieve any props from the local media/Bears fans for his outstanding performance today.
  13. Mitch Albom, he's also a very handsome man. Sam Smith has also written a book or 2 but never a novel.
  14. QUOTE(Chisox_10 @ Nov 12, 2006 -> 03:12 PM) It is a big signing. I think the Cubs are starting to show they mean business. Alot of teams would have wanted him. He left 20-25 guaranteed dollars on the table to come back to the Cubs. I think this is just the beginnings of the Cubs going after it all. $20M - $25M? No way was he going to be offered a contract like that. At the most he'd get a 6 year deal but most realistically he'd recieve 5 years. So that would be $18M - $19M a year for Aramis Ramirez? Um no.
  15. QUOTE(FlaCWS @ Nov 11, 2006 -> 07:09 PM) Let me point out that he played with Randy Johnson for about 4 seasons. And let me point out (again) that the Mariners set the AL record for wins the season after he left. There were plenty of the same pitchers on that team that played with A-Rod (including Freddy Garcia). The Yankees can keep him and enjoy the stats and the eventual disappointment. So what was it exactly that Alex Rodriguez was doing in 2001 that hampered that team so mightely? What could Rodriguez possibly been doing that would hold a team back as much as he did seeing how the Mariners had 25 more wins in '01 than in '00? Maybe he was keeping the starting pitchers out late the nights before they pitched or perhaps A-Rod was teaching Sele, Abbott, Halama, Moyer, Garcia and the bullpen arms faulty mechanics? Mariners 2000 Pitching Staff: Sele - 4.51 ERA, 102 ERA+ Halama - 5.08 ERA, 90 ERA+ Abbott - 4.22 ERA, 108 ERA+ Moyer - 5.49 ERA, 83 ERA+ Garcia - 3.91 ERA, 117 ERA+ Sasaki - 3.16 ERA, 145 ERA+ Rhodes - 4.28 ERA, 107 ERA+ Paniagua - 3.47 ERA, 132 ERA+ Mesa - 5.36 ERA, 85 ERA+ COLLECTIVE STAFF NUMBERS: 4.50 ERA, 101 ERA+ Mariners 2001 Pitching Staff: Sele - 3.60 ERA, 117 ERA+ Halama - 4.73 ERA, 89 ERA+ Abbott - 4.25 ERA, 99 ERA+ Moyer - 3.43 ERA, 123 ERA+ Garcia - 3.05 ERA, 138 ERA+ Sasaki - 3.24 ERA, 130 ERA+ Rhodes - 1.72 ERA, 245 ERA+ Paniagua - 4.36 ERA, 97 ERA+ Nelson - 2.76 ERA, 153 ERA+ COLLECTIVE STAFF NUMBERS: 3.54 ERA, 119 ERA+ That's .96 difference in ERA and 18 ERA+ from 2000 to 2001 for the Mariners pitching staff. Alex Rodriguez Salary history: '94 Seattle: $442,333 '95 Seattle: $442,333 '96 Seattle: $442,333 '97 Seattle: $1,062,500 '98 Seattle: $2,162,500 '99 Seattle: $3,112,500 '00 Seattle: $4,362,500 So Alex made $4,362,500M in 2000 while with the Mariners, hard to say he was holding them back financially. Alex Rodriguez Playoff stats while with the Mariners: '97 ALDS: 16 AB, .312/.312/.562/.874 | 2B, HR, RBI '00 ALDS: 13 AB, .308/.308/.308/.616 | 2 RBI '00 ALCS: 22 AB, .409/.480/.773/1.253 | 2 2B, 2 HR, 5 RBI Also hard to say he didn't earn his keep in the postseason especially with the 2000 ALCS numbers he put up. So Alex Rodriguez is a loser because the 2001 Mariners had a much better season than they did the previous season? You're gonna need a little more evidence than that to convince me.
  16. QUOTE(easyw @ Nov 9, 2006 -> 08:22 PM) Neither of these guys has what it takes to be a leadoff hitter in the big leagues. You should hit at least .300 with an OBP of .400. There's a reason why Rickey Henderson's only come along once in a lifetime.
  17. Some pretty good pics of the new jerseys.
  18. QUOTE(R.Sweeney @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 05:28 PM) The only thing I dont like about the idea is now we wouldnt have much power from the left side but thats over-rated anyway b/c we won a world series without much power from lefties anyway . Just because the '05 Sox won a title with no left handed pop doesn't mean it's overrated it just means that team had one of the greatest pitching seasons ever recorded and thus was able to make up for a pathetic offense.
  19. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 01:02 PM) I actually like Riske in the mop up role. We need someone to take the load off of some of the more important bullpen arms. And that man goes by the name of Chuck.
  20. Ryan Freel will not get anywhere near the White Sox as long as Williams is the GM. You have to remember KW is looking for character guys and Freel is the complete opposite of what he's looking for seeing how he's a psychopathic drunkard and all.
  21. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Nov 6, 2006 -> 10:18 PM) Compared to Oakland, San Jose is quite a bit further than Fremont. Another question, do they become known as the Fremont Athletics of Oakland? Actually if they were going to go that route it would be the Oakland Athletics of Fremont.
  22. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Nov 3, 2006 -> 11:16 PM) Please. Mack is very underrated here and it's too bad Ozzie's misuse of him makes people want him off the team or think can be replaced rather easily. Could not agree more. It can be argued that Mackowiak was the top bench player in all of baseball last season, a guy like that is not easily replaced.
  23. QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ Nov 2, 2006 -> 06:45 PM) Chavez committed 5 errors all season long, he deserved it...Grudz had an awesome season he deserved...Boston led the AL in Fielding % and no Red Sox won a GG I think it's a pretty well documented and accepted notion that # of errors/field% are not great measures of defensive prowess. Afterall Orlando Hudson had 12 errors last year compared to Tadahito Iguchi's 8, I don't think you're going to find many baseball people who will tell you Iguchi is a better fielder than Hudson. And if you're going to go by errors committed then you should probably be upset Lowell didn't win it seeing how he committed only one more error but in 72 more chances. Chavez: 5 errors in 391 chances (.987) and Lowell: 6 errors in 463 chances (.987)
  24. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Nov 1, 2006 -> 04:19 PM) so we'd get rid of arugably the best fielding 3b in baseball and a .300 25hr, 100rbi hitter for a guy who chokes and bats .119 in the playoffs. Than we'd start an unproved 3b, who will be at the best, average. hitting was not are problem, its pitching. I would musch rather trade Garcia for two top notch Relief pitchers and a possible minor league prospect. Alex Rodriguez is a career .280 hitter in the playoffs, don't get it twisted. I don't think his last 2 years with the Yankees are a great measurement of his abilities in clutch time seeing how he tore it up with the Mariners in the postseason in '97 & '00 not to mention his 16/50 (.320) performance in the '04 playoffs as a Yankee. Remember kids, don't believe everything ESPN tells you. They're more than likely lying to your face. So we'd be trading a 28 year old 3B who is comming off a career year, has a bad back and a career .308 OBP for a sure fire Hall of Famer who will likely end up hitting around 800 homeruns in his career and go down as one of the greatest players in the history of the game.
