  1. QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 07:13 PM) Wow. How quickly people forget. Yeah, sure, they've played poorly a lot more this season, and YES, you have to be hungry for more, but: 1. They DID just win their first title in 88 years, and everyone was so happy, and now, what? It doesn't matter for s*** anymore? SpringfieldFan posted one of the very few sensible and pure posts in this entire thread. 2. This season is NOT over. It MIGHT be, but not certainly. Anything can still happen. 14 games is plenty of time to catch a Wild Card IF things shape up, and seeing as Detroit is next, I'm fairly confident. I very well could be wrong, but if they make it this year, hell, just to the PLAYOFFS, I'm permanently sigging a picture of a big, fat crow to remind all of you about not only last year, but hopefully this year. Have some damn optomism. If we lose, we lose, but this is NOT over yet. I guess nobody learned from what happened last year. They just got their asses handed to them in the biggest series of the season, they got swept in a series that they knew going into they could not afford to get swept in. These are not things that promote optimism. I'm just wondering why I should care if the team wins or loses when it seems they could care less about the outcome of the games they play. This is 2006 by the way, just like Kenny Williams said the time for celebrating last year's achievements has come and gone it's now time to focus on the success of this year's team. You can hold that World Series with you forever and reminisce as often as you please but you can't let the success of a completely different team from last year overshadow the failures of this year's squad. This team has taken the underachievement tag to a whole new level. They've gone from World Series Champions to 3rd place in the AL Central and the 5th best record in all of the AL, in other words they're losers.
  2. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 06:19 PM) At least THAT game made me happy. That was fun, wasn't it?
  3. QUOTE(SEALgep @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 06:14 PM) You can blame Ozzie all you want, but the players simply aren't getting it done. And yet when the players do get it done and the team wins the World Series it's Ozzie's doing.
  4. This is the most aggravating, confusing and infuriating season any Chicago sports franchise has ever had. When I so much as think about this team, I get sick to my stomach.
  5. I do believe Frank stuck it right up Ozzie's giggy.
  6. The amount of appeals that take place in baseball is just ridiculous.

The funny thing is Konerko actually has more Ks than Thome in close and late situations (20 SO/18 SO) and Thome has 2 more home runs in the same situations (3 HR/5 HR). Not to mention K:BB for the 2 of them which is completely lopsided, Konerko: 20:9, Thome: 18:20. Of course when discussing the 2 people often say "f*** the stats" or "I'll believe what I see". Which makes discussion on the topic all but impossible.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 03:58 PM) Jim Thome sucks but Konerko is God, I don't understand. GIDP>K? I still think it was very unclutch of Thome to get the tying run to the plate last night with 1 out.
  9. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 02:21 PM) Hilarious thread. I bet you all were screaming that Mack lost us the game last night as well. You could Always just read the post game thread and find out yourself intsead of making assumptions like these.
  10. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 01:22 PM) Yeah totally. I mean, who wants to blame the pitching when we could blame the best offense in baseball, and our extremely successful manager? You mean the 12 best offense in baseball over the past month and the 7th best pitching staff in baseball over the same time period?
  11. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 01:21 PM) Hilarious. wow how spoiled we have become, we win a ring, are in a playoff race, are one of the best teams in baseball, and it coulda fooled you? Please. Yeah 6 months ago is a long time huh? Pinella wouldnt have even made this a race, let alone win a ring and then come back with another good team. What about the way this team has played in the second half has been enjoyable in the least? They won last year, came in with high expectations and have laid a monsterous egg. Watching a bad team go out on the field basically day in and day out since the break has been misery. The 6th best record in baseball and 3rd in the division isn't exactly what most Sox fans invisioned for this season, perhaps you enjoy it but I sure as hell don't.
  12. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 01:19 PM) except ozzie is trying to win 100 games each season. Could have fooled me.
  13. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 12:38 PM) Hopefully the media won't be intimidated by Ozzie and challenge him on why he's not putting this team in the best position to succeed.
  14. So it's not just the fans, baseball anylists and baseball writers anymore? Hawk Harrelson has now jumped on the what the hell is Ozzie thinking bandwagon? So even Ozzie's biggest backer can see how completely insane his lineups have become, wow.
  15. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 11:51 AM) Why is Uribe and his sub 200 hitting for the last month in the lineup then. Why isnt Cintron in there. Why is prancer out in LF, if we are worried about anything. Ozzie is full of s***, the sooner he goes bye bye, the better. Take Walker and Cora with him. He's just trying to fire up Anderson and give Mack some confidence out there. Uribe and Podsednik are both vets that play better if their manager just keeps sending them out there day after day even if they suck, the second he says something negative about either of them, they'll likely lose all confidence and become bad players. Ozzie is just saying the same damn things he's been saying all year because he doesn't want his team to panic, if that means talking about how bad Anderson is every day to the press and sending a corner OF out to CF each night then so be it. The last thing he needs is a team with a sense of urgency.

Ugh, he's going to be back here next year I can just feel it. I'm not sure I can watch a team with Freddy Garcia and Juan Pierre for a full season. It seems all my worst nightmares about this team are comming true. If Freddy can save his job just by saying he'll likely gain 6-7 MPH on his fastball over the offseason then what stops Podsednik from saying he'll likely get his speed, plate discipline and contact swing back this offseason and keep his job? And what happens if Freddy comes into next year throwing 84-87 MPH? The Sox would likely be completely screwed it would be another season with a 5 ERA 1.48 WHIP soft tosser in the middle of the rotation because he'd have no trade value.
  17. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 09:59 AM) Heck, when was the last time they did that? Well, it is kind of encouraging that the last time they actually swept a series it was against the Tigers over a month ago. The last time they won three straight games was Aug 27 - Aug 30, the final game of the Minnesota series and the first 2 games of the Tampa series.
  18. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 10:22 AM) That's exactly what I thought. I've been wanting Ozzie to get fired up about something and motivate this team since the ASB. Unfortunately it takes a beer controversey to get a rise out of Ozzie. I feel sick.
  19. The similarities between Ozzie and Dusty grow by the day. Everytime this fool opens his mouth my fandom of this team takes another hit, it's just not fair.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 03:20 AM) Well i personally wish we had a speedier guy with an ops .200 points lower than thome's. Team speed is the key to this teams success. Not the pitching. Also hope we do not hit a home run the rest of this season. The Yankees don't hit homeruns and just look at how well they're doing, same goes for the Mets.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 03:02 AM) With all due respect some of you sometimes think you know soo much and won't accept anybody else's take. OK so Fred is 14-9 instead of 14-6. The guy just flirted with a f***ing perfect game. But you think he's finished, he's toast. Think about what he did LAST YEAR. Sometimes I think you guys think the Sox will someday get 5 superior starters. Name one f***ing team in baseball with 5 superior starters??? Freddie Garcia is NOT a stiff. Sox fans are starting to remind me of fans of some college teams that act like their team is the ONLY one out there. My god. Freddie Garcia will have a job on any staff in baseball, why not ours??? Because he's a bad pitcher? Player A: 25 GS | 4.84 ERA | 1.31 WHIP | .262 BAA | 27 HR Player B: 30 GS | 4.82 ERA | 1.33 WHIP | .275 BAA | 31 HR Player C: 27 GS | 4.66 ERA | 1.39 WHIP | .283 BAA | 28 HR Player D: 30 GS | 5.09 ERA | 1.31 WHIP | .246 BAA | 33 HR 4 pretty damn similar pitchers one of which is Freddy Garcia the other 3? Let's just say they're pitchers that you wouldn't necessarilly call good. This is the same Garcia who has mysteriously lost around 6-8 MPH on his fastball over 1 offseason, has shown up teammates, said he only pitches well in "big games", has sucked in "big games" and has posted monthly splits that are consistently bad, showing no signs of improvement. April: 5.86 ERA | 1.59 WHIP | .259 BAA May: 3.70 ERA | 1.11 WHIP | .280 BAA June: 4.81 ERA | 1.43 WHIP | .279 BAA July: 5.52 ERA | 1.48 WHIP | .295 BAA Aug: 5.72 ERA | 1.40 WHIP | .299 BAA If Scott Podsednik were a pitcher he'd be Freddy Garcia, except I've never seen Podsednik show up a teammate.
  22. QUOTE(RX Bandits @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 01:15 AM) agreed. the team needs to start hitting. Perhaps if the Sox didn't have 2 automatic outs in the lineup most everyday *cough*dergenuribe*cough* this team could produce a little better at the plate.
  23. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 01:09 AM) BTW, I didn't see the Mackowiak screw-up. Was it the usual, bad read type play? It was a blooper out into shallow right center field, he got a bad jump followed by a lame ass diving attempt which was highlighted by his knees hitting the ground only a split second after his feet left the ground, ball his off his glove and rolled away. It didn't help that Dye attempted to throw a runner out at the plate flat footed on a sac fly shortly afterward. It was just a pathetic defensive showing by the team as a whole.
  24. Dear God I am in a terrible mood right now, f***ing Sox always do this to me. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 12:10 AM) At least Pierre will make contact, won't take a called 3rd strike, will hustle on defense, and can bunt. I don't want him to sign with the Sox....but I'll take anything over Pods. I just really don't want the Sox to settle for mediocrity this offseason and I do believe Pierre is just that. Can't we just for once have a decent fielding, non-pussarmed, high OBP leftfielder/leadoffman? I don't think it's that much to ask. Or is it?
