  2. QUOTE(Soxfest @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 12:58 PM) Tonight will be start of a 3 game
  3. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 11:38 AM) Kalapse said "If he had not injured his back". I don't think anyone would have expected him to pitch like last year, but to say he would have been as bad as Politte is just dumb. Just because both had good years last year has nothing to do with anything. Each is their seperate case. In my opinion, Hermanson would have regressed big time even without the injury. He doesn't have great stuff at all and can only fool American League hitters for so long with his large aray of pitches. His June and September of last year were nothing spectacular and I don't see how it's "dumb" to think that he and Politte are incredibly similar cases. You can only get by with a 86 MPH fastball for so long in the AL.
  4. QUOTE(T R U @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 12:36 AM) You Are 90% Evil You're the most evil person you know. The devil is even a little scared of you! Prolly be 100% but ive never been arrested and I dont hate kids, but everything else is a definate yes We probably had about the same answers except I have been arrested which is why I win at 94%
  5. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 09:44 AM) The Yankees have had a murderers row lineup for the last 5 years or so and it can't get them over the hump. And their pitching over the past 5 years does not compare to that of the '06 White Sox.
  6. HORRAY! Who doesn't love the insanity that is hot stove trade talk?
  7. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 09:36 AM) So Im going to DC on business tomorrow, planning on watching A-row take on the Nats. Nice to knock another park off my list. Actually, historically, he isnt that bad against LHP> Well, this year he's pathetic (11-60 | .183BA, 14K) but last year in 100 ABs he had 33 hits vs the south paws.
  8. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 06:31 AM) It never ceases to amaze me how much Kalapse can sucker people into ridiculous(hilarious) conversations. I mean, he even said that Zambrano would eat your face and Cuck the Fubs took it in stride and mentioned that there may or may not be a rule about pitchers batting in the AL. LMAO It's nuts I tell ya. Well, Zambrano is a free agent after the '07 season so he could be hitting the market fairly soon and if I were him I'd definately explore my options. You really want to know how insane it would be to have Zambrano available through free agency? Imagine the contract Mussina got from the Yankees, now add on a few bucks and maybe another year. That's how much he'll command on the free agent market. Mussina pulled in a 6 year deal worth $88.5M + a $12M signing bonus. That's roughly $14.5M per.
  9. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 5, 2006 -> 11:06 PM) I used to like your "being an ass" comebacks. But this...this was just lame. Actually I was just being honest.
  10. QUOTE(SouthsideNorthsideFan @ Jun 5, 2006 -> 10:51 PM) They weren't pissed when Alou was let go. They were pissed that he wasn't replaced. I agree it's waaayyy too early to judge Corey...new league, less pressure. His BB to K ratio is what needs to be watched...just last week, I believe, he was still at 5BB's, which eventually would lead back to the Corey of old. Right now he has 10 BB and he's walked twice in the past week.
  11. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 5, 2006 -> 10:46 PM) **Tries to find any existing logic in this one** You sure do add a lot.
  12. If the '06 Patterson is the player who he truely is then he is the black Carlos beltran. They have the same damn tools and are the best baserunners in the game. You're not supposed to be able to steal bases the way Patterson and Beltran do.
  13. You should pretty much just forget the name Dustin Hermanson all together. The guy is comming off a very serious injury and should not be expected to give the the Sox anything at all this year. Even if he does come back, he'd probably put up numbers comparable to one Clifford Politte. Hell you thought Cliff had a career year last year, just take a look at what Hermanson did. If Hermanson had not injured his back he would have been a prime candidate along with Politte to have a down year.
  14. QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ Jun 5, 2006 -> 10:03 PM) Well do you think a manager would take that risk of him getting injured? It doesn't really matter, it will be part of his next contract. The clause will give him the option to hit in any game played with the DH. If you try to stop him he will eat your face. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 5, 2006 -> 10:03 PM) His agent is Scott Boras. /END OF THREAD He fired Boras. He's currently running with Scott Shapiro and Barry Praver.
  15. QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ Jun 5, 2006 -> 09:57 PM) Are you forgetting that pitchers in the AL don't hit?? Zambrano would insist on hitting in the AL, he believes himself to be a great hitter and is in fact a switch hitter. This will leave the AL team with an option of who to use the DH on.
  16. Passion/Intensity or Insanity? The guy is a bonafide nutcase. He'll be out of the league by the age of 26 after striking out on a pitch off the outside corner he'll go bizerk breaking his bat in half over his head then stabbing the umpire to death with the broken end of the bat. DO YOU REALLY WANT THAT TO HAPPEN ON THE SOUTH SIDE!?!? WELL, DO YOU !?!?
  17. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jun 5, 2006 -> 08:40 PM) AJ at .186. EDIT: Now that I think of it, AJ is getting a huge pass by everyone here because his overall average is good. But when you get down to it his numbers are worse than Uribe's when it matters most. I guess if you hit a bunch of meaningless singles and doubles with the bases empty you get a free pass. I love AJ but he makes just as many 1st pitch outs as Uribe and he has hit worse with RISP. Well AJ does have 20 runs this year so it's not like he's hitting "meaningless singles and double" like you say, he's getting on base and scoring at a pretty good clip even if he has been pretty horrid w/ RISP. Also, he's a catcher which is the one position more than any that when they're playing incredibly well on defense (also calling games) that anything you get from them on offense is a bonus. It's like choosing between Piazza/V-Mart or Brad Ausmus/Mike Matheny.
  18. Hmm, interesting. You Are 94% Evil You're the most evil person you know. The devil is even a little scared of you! How Evil Are You? http://www.blogthings.com/howevilareyouquiz/
  19. Well, Senior Dickface allowed a hit with 1 out in the 8th.
  20. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 5, 2006 -> 09:04 PM) There's gotta be. I mean, with that many people, at least a few must be. And I've heard that about what Felix said. But, I think that was a popular rumor. There isn't a single player in baseball whom is still playing that has come out of the closet. It would be an impossible situation. I'm sure there's more than a few who are gay but none of them show it openly.
  21. QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Jun 5, 2006 -> 09:02 PM) I don't really care if he gets it or not, but we haven't seen one in baseball for quite some time. I'm honestly rooting for him (which means it probably won't happen). I don't hate a lot of players in baseball but out of the very few that I do find my self disgusted with, Carlos Zambrano tops the list. If it were any other Cubs pitcher I probably wouldn't give a damn but this guy is such an ultra tool that I can not root for him for anything.
  22. I really think Zambrano is going to get this NO-HITTER, he's flurted with NO-HITTERS in the past and it's about time he finished one off. The way the Astros offense looks today I'd say this NO-HITTER has a great chance of happening.
  23. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jun 5, 2006 -> 06:40 PM) Didn't mean to get your panties in a bunch. Well, if you could maybe refrain from constantly repeating yourself and harping on the same damn thing over and over maybe it wouldn't be as bothersome. If superstitions bother you then ignore the people who talk about them instead of constantly picking at it.
  24. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 5, 2006 -> 06:40 PM) It certainly can... mediocre: of moderate or low quality, value, ability, or performance If Rowand's OPS+ is 103, he definitely falls into the "moderate" category. Blaylock's averaged 29 HRs and 141 Ks over the past two years. I don't think he's the same type of hitter as Rowand. Rowand would be a lot more like Hunter if he could consistently have 25-HR seasons. The problem with using mediocre to describe average is, you lose another word to describe below average players. What would you call Izturis? Orlando Cabrera? Royce Clayton? Joe Valentin? Daryl Ward? Jay Payton? Christian Guzman? It's really hard to ask for any sort of consistant stat line from Rowand when this is really only his 3rd full season as a starter. If he puts up 20 HRs this year like he is on pace to do, that would put him at 24-14-20 there's nothing really consistent about that. OPS+ doesn't really discriminate either, as long as the guy isn't a leadoff hitter or big time speed player you can accurately compare 2 players using the stat so just because Blalock and Rowand are not exactly the same kind of player does not mean you can't use OPS+ to compare the 2.
