QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 12:05 PM) well there IS a reason that when considering a player for the hall of fame, the amount of all start selections is brought up. Especially when introducing a player. It carries weight. Regardless, he is still a better player than Crede, home, away , offensively, defensively, he is a better player All-Star selections will always carry wheight in people's minds because the All-Star game means something to a lot of people. IMO, All-Star selections don't mean a whole hell of a lot but that's just because I disagree with a lot of the selections. Most people tend to agree with the selections. He may be better than Crede but the trade rumors are not Crede for Blalock which would be a no doubter. The rumors are Garland and Crede for Blalock and Wilkerson/a spect (not Danks or Diamond). I'm not so sure that's a slam dunk.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 11:57 AM) When it comes to older players and fan favorites, I agree. But when electing a 23 or 24 year old on a not very popular team, at a saturated position, I think it holds weight. If it really didnt mean anything than we would have been so concerned with Garland and Buherle making it, and having Mark getting the start. I wasn't concerned about them making it, that's just me thought. I didn't even think Mark should have started until Halladay got hurt then I was for Mark starting just because it would be something cool for him, personally. Blalock was one of the most hyped prospects to come along in a long ass time, every player and coach was aware of him when he broke into the league and he tends to have decent 1st half of the seasons, which is what is voted on. For as long as we have say the NBA All-Star game with Yao being the leading vote getter and Amare Stoudamire the starting PF, I really can't put much emphasis on All-Star appearances.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 11:53 AM) Oh, thanks for that Gospel. I fgured 2 selections by the time a player was 24 was pretty good, especially when he isnt the only player on his team selected therefor going by default. But I guess your truth makes more sense. How can anyone put any value into All-Star selections when they continue to be a joke year after year. I stopped putting weight into the All-Star game in all sports a while ago. Until the Fans stop voting and until the players get thier heads out of their asses when voting (Nathan was an All-Star last year) I refuse to use All-Star selections as a measuring stick for who is a good player.

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 11:49 AM) Soriano is available? s*** I agree. Take a chance on him, at least for a bullpen spot. He is definitely worth it. He is not available. The writer of the article speculated as to who could be non-tendered by the Mariners out of all their pitchers and said Gil Meche had the best shot, Soriano was one of the names but I highly doubt he'll be non-tendered.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 11:45 AM) Oh sorry, I thought it meant you were good. Guess I misread that requirement. No, no it doesn't.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 11:39 AM) totally, who want want the AL defensive leader at 3B on this team, and who needs a two time all star anyway? God, he's even too old at 25 to even mention this possibility. He has no power, and cant hit anyway!! God!!!! I mean, if the sox ever start playing every game on the road, he would be worthless!! What a horrible idea!!! What exactly does being an All-Star mean? Nothing.

QUOTE(WinninUgly @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 11:00 AM) If it is 7 DVDs, it could be one for the regular season, one for the ALDS, one for the ALCS, and then four for the WS with the post game show and parade as "Special Features". How the hell could they fit 4 full baseball games on 1 DVD? I don't think that's possible.

QUOTE(ChWRoCk2 @ Dec 18, 2005 -> 12:15 AM) why would we want kolb, i think now is the time to test our young talent What young talent? Tracey? Baj? That's about it.

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Dec 17, 2005 -> 12:24 AM) I would welcome Carl back at the deadline. If we were making a push for the playoffs his bat off the bench would be a nice addition. There are certainly worse people you can trade for. Plus he's only on a 1 year deal this time...We won't need him though, hopefully. Everett is pretty useless off the bench seeing how he can't play the feild at all and isn't all that good of a hitter. I'd rather never see him in a Sox uniform again.

This is kind of sad.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 04:33 PM) If you put it in BOLD LETTERS it will still be wrong. Crede is entering his first year of arbitration. You go through arbitration three times before becoming a free agent. Let's count this out. 2006 = First year of arb. 2007 = Second year of arb. 2008 = Third year of arb. 2009 = Free Agent You are correct. I thought this was his second year, he'll hit free agency after the '08 season instead.

QUOTE(NYSox35 @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 04:14 PM) Allow me to suggest not clicking on the thread. It is a valid question. Didn't say s*** about you, it's just most people think he's a free agent after the '06 season. It's a wide spread myth at this point.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 03:59 PM) What if we genuinely believe that Carl Everett will be back in a Sox Uniform before he retires? Then the Sox are f***ed.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 01:11 PM) He's got tremendous speed actually but you're correct he's not a base stealer as of right now. EDIT: By the way, I agree with the line in your sig 100 percent. That joke is the most over done thing ever, here. Of course you agree as should everyone. The next person to make a Carl Everett trade joke should be banned.

QUOTE(juevos @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 01:08 PM) haha...i don't think its gonna happen either. but if it did, imagine; pods iguchi tejada konerko thome dye aj crede anderson if anderson just hits .290 with 20 steals, 15 hrs, our lineup would be STACKED. coupled with the pitching, and ON PAPER, we should win 110+ games. again, just ON PAPER. Only .290? Not gonna happen. BA has never stolen more than 10 bases in any given season in the minors and 17 in college, he may have decent speed but he doesn't steal bases regularly.

QUOTE(drowninginflame @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 12:13 PM) If I'm a pro I play to win..which means I won't play for: Royals Brewers Pirates Cubs The Brewers have a legitimate shot at winning the NL Central next year.

QUOTE(valponick @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 11:21 AM) Did I say that sucks??? Averaging 107 rbi a year vs averaging 130 rbi year is a HUGE difference. That's all I was saying. You can't just remove a season from consideration when tabulating averages, that's horses***. He averages 114 RBI 29 HR .285 avg 37 2B 101 R 116 OPS+ That is sick.

I love how childish a lot of you are acting, calling people morons is not going to get you anywhere.

QUOTE(valponick @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 11:33 AM) OK again, this isn't anywhere near I was saying and is the general flaw with baseball knowledge (if you can call it that) on this board in general. I wasn't saying how he compared at his position. He is not one of the best offensive players in baseball, which is what people on here think, he might be one of the best SS's in baseball, but he doesn't produce like the top hitters in baseball do, thats all I was thinking. Maybe if you looked at something other than OBP you'd see just how good he is. Getting on base is not the end all be all, he produces so many damn runs and from a position that you normally don't see that sort of production from.
