Griffey Rumor
QUOTE(quickman @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 04:25 PM) The reds board is laughing at us. Unless people actaully hear this then I suggest not beleiving what some idiot on the main board says. Its stupid. I ask again...Has anyone on this board actaully heard Bruce levine report this? Please step forward. I'd say people are most likely getting this info from the MLB boards or the ESPN boards. I don't thing Levine said any of this.

Griffey Rumor
QUOTE(Frank the Tank 35 @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 04:11 PM) Wow, Bruce Levine reported several hours ago that the Sox bumped up their offer for KGJ. I'm surprised nobody's jumped on the rumor here. I guess everyone's kinda lulled into a sense that nothing's going to get done. They're offering to take on more of KGJ's contract. Bruce said that both sides have agreed on the players involved, and the only step necessary would be for Junior to publically ask for the trade so that the owner could say he gave Griffey want he wanted and doesn't look like the bad guy who traded him. Bruce said that as soon as that happens a trade could be consumated by tonight or tomorrow (obviously something would have to be done by Wednesday). I'm assuming everyone here will take a "believe it when I see it" approach, as will I. lmao

QUOTE(quickman @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 03:48 PM) bench Brian Anderson right now! Don't let him hit again until the deadline passes. Brian Anderson can't be traded anyway. Just ignore it anytime that his name is brought up.

The End of Hutch?
QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 11:40 AM) Not only does Orton NOT put you in the best position to win ballgames, but you risk screwing up what looks to be a future NFL starter. Rarely do rookie QBs put you in the best position to win ballgames and this is no exception. Hell, the Niners are starting Tim f***ing Rattay over consensus #1 selection Alex Smith. Is Alex Smith more talented than Rattay? Absolutely. Does he stand a good chance of getting killed behind that OL and suffer a 2-3 year set-back as a result? Yes. Alex Smith is their future. Likewise, it would appear Orton is the Bears future signal-caller. You do not put these kids out there to get killed. Let's face it, the Bears are going NOWHERE this season. Nowhere. Putting Orton out there does nothing more than risk injury, confidence, and maturation set-backs. Let the kid watch the NFL from the sideline for a year, get in there for a few snaps and compete for the job next season. The Bears are not in a situation where they HAVE to play the rookie QB...so why do it? To finish with 4 wins on the year? No thanks. 1.) I do not buy into the hype that this team cannot win. 2.) Tim Rattay would start on this Bears team. He's better than all four of our QBs right now, if we had him, I'd want him to start. All I'm saying is that he's going to start this year sooner or later, I'd much rather have it be sooner rather than later. But in the end we'll see what happens when the season starts, all we can really do right now is wait and see.

The End of Hutch?
QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 11:06 AM) No. No. No. :headshake You do NOT start rookie QBs in the NFL unless they are primed for Hall of Fame careers. After Ben's season last year, everyone thinks it's ok to start rookie QBs. Well, it's not. Ben's size and refined talent last year made him a good candidate to start some ballgames, but the Steelers still started the season with Maddox at #1 on the chart. Ben was a rare exception. No rookie quarterback ever put up the numbers Ben did in the history of the NFL. The last rookie quarterback to ever suceed like that before Ben was a guy the went by the name of Dan Marino. GROOM ORTON!!!! Luckily, this is exactly what I think the Bears will be doing. Blake should be the starter and Orton should take some time to learn how the NFL works. I could care less about Rothlesburger. We have three possible starters right now. Hutchinson, who sucks major ass and would most likely hold a sub 30 QB rating for the season, plus go down around week 3 after getting destroyed on a blitz seeing how he has NO feeling in the pocket at all. He couldn't dodge a rush to save his life. Jeff Blake, who we signed a week ago and sucks almost as bad as Hutch, except is about 3000x the jackass. Orton gives this team the best chance to win. He's a rookie, oh well, so let's groom him like every other QB we've groomed. I just don't give a s***, the O-line will keep him safe to an extent. He'd be starting by week 7 as is, Hutch will be going down this year early and Blake will either be extremely bad or be a total tool and get pulled. Orton will be starting this year, it's just a matter of when. Usually when you keep a rookie QB on the bench to groom him you have a serviceable veteran QB to start while the rookie watches from the sidelines. This is a unique case in which the rookie is probably the best quarterback on the team.

The End of Hutch?
QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 10:29 AM) My depth chart would look something like: 1) Blake 2) Kittner 3) Orton Let's actually do this thing the right way. Groom Orton for a year and let him compete for the starting job in 06'-07'. Sorry, fellas, but he ain't going to have a year like Big Ben in Pittsburgh. No way in hell I start Blake, just because of his performance yesterday. He looked like absolute s*** to me and he kept smiling which pissed me off. Lets just go for it with Orton, most people don't feel that we're going to compete this season anyway, why not have the best QB go out there and play. He may be a rookie and he's going to make mistakes but he appears to be the best quarterback on the team right now. If they start Blake I won't be upset but I'd much rather see Orton.

The End of Hutch?
The Bears will have the #1 defense in the NFL this season. On paper if you look at the D, it has the ability, comming into the season I felt they had a great defense and now after watching the first 4 preseason games. I'm positive this a top 3 defense, if they can stay healthy, #1. A. Brown, Scott/Boone/Johnson, Harris (Future Pro-Bowl DT), Ogunleye (beast) Briggs (great compliment to Brian), Urlacher (4 time Pro-bowler, it's unbelievable how people question his abilities), Hillenmeyer Tillman (Future Pro-Bowl CB, just ask Randy Moss), M. Brown (All-Pro SS, emotional leader of the D), M. Green (Extremely underrated, just look at his career stats), Azumah/Vasher

Congrats Brian Anderson!
QUOTE(daa84 @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 09:41 AM) whats even funnier is that the white sox just sent a huge F U to jeremy reed. anderson with a huge game had to have reminded reed why the sox traded reed in the first place. helluva job brian From Baseball America, talking about Brian Anderson:
-
AND THATS A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!!!!
We've got our 2 kickass rookies going for the stretch run. Jenks will make the playoff roster and more than likely we'll be seeing BA on there as well. In recent history rookies have come up huge for teams in September and in the playoffs, it doesn't hurt having a kickass rookie closer and what seems to be a pretty good OFer out there as well.

Congrats Brian Anderson!
Nice bunt, something a lot of guys on this team can't accomplish.

Will we get no hit today?
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 05:06 PM) If there was ever a game for Anderson to not start, it's against Felix. If Anderson struggles to hit Radke's 91 mph fastball, then I wouldn't like his chances against 96-98 mph heater. We would have been shutout without BA.

Wrong Lefty?
QUOTE(aboz56 @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 06:44 PM) He'll be the right fielder for the Braves next season. Book it. He may want to play for the Braves but the Braves don't seem all that interested in him. He'll play in Houston next year.

QUOTE(supersuicidedoll @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 01:01 PM) Hes young...give him time before he can master a 4th pitch His slider is his best pitch. He's just not allow to throw it in games because of how young he is, they don't want to risk injuring his arm.

Felix Hernandez got roughed up in ST and... Brandon McCarthy shut everyone down in ST. ST means s***. This team needs to show patience at the plate against a rookie. They're going to have to battle and every now and then sit on a pitch.

QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 11:47 PM) This is why I have been looking forward to the game as well. I want to see him pitch. You lucky lucky person. Tommorrow will be the first time I get to see him pitch, and I can't wait. His major league debut kinda sucked. It wasn't on MLB Extra Innings and MLB.tv was f***ed up, the only view they had was from behind homeplate at Comerica. You still got the full effect of what he was pitching though. Luckily both of his starts against Min were on MLB Extra Innings as was the one against KC.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 11:35 PM) He can go mesmerise you against some other team But now I get to here Hawk talk about how he's not as good as some of the pitchers he saw in his day, though he will say "this kid is gonna be something special". DJ will be absolutely droolling over Felix' curveball, not to mention his 95 MPH fastball that acts as a sinker and his ridiculous change that cuts 15 MPH off of his fastball with phenominal movement, how could I forget his 4 seemer that he throws 97 MPH with movement in on RHB and movement in on a LHB both with pin-point control. 2 years from now we'll see that slider, which is his best pitch.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 11:26 PM) I'm not sure about that, this game is scary..... This is going to sound bad but... Even though most likely the Sox will not win tomorrow and will most likely be shutout by a rookie, I'm still looking forward to seeing him pitch. I've seen all of his starts so far this year and I am mesmerised. King Felix is absolutely sick, it will be a pleasure to see him pitch tomorrow.
