Look who has baseball's best record again
WilliamTell replied to suffering-nomore-sox fan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 11:58 PM) Out of curiosity, why are Sox fans rooting for Maddux? I respect what the guy has done for the game. I rooted for him when he was with the Braves and aslong as he isn't in our division, I might as well root for him. -
Anyone watching this tennis match?

Didn't Clisters beat her, however it's spelled. But yeah, this match was in the top 5 that I've seen for sure. And it's great to have some publicity for men's tennis. I didn't know who to go for. I decided if Agassi won tonight, he'd have to win the whole thing for me to be satisfied with him beating Blake. I really hope Blake can win a big one sometime in his career. -

Andre Agassi wins in a 5th set tie-break 7-6. -
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 12:00 AM) I've been tempted to take Oakland in the upset, but there defense is so horrid. That's why I don't think it'll be very close. I don't think it'll be a blowout either. I'm guessing 31-21.

I don't know if this is posted but I love seeing three Big Ten teams in the top 10. (3, 4, and 8) -

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 11:52 PM) He's got 12 wins, the team has I believe 23 games left...that should give him 4 starts the rest of the year...maybe they could push him up to 5 if they really try and they have off days to shuffle people around. It looks possible...I'm not sure about probable given the team he's pitching for, but it's certainly not yet impossible. Yeah I just looked at the schedule also, I'd really like to see him continue the streak. -

now it's 5 all. -
One of the greater ones I've ever seen. Granted I don't watch a lot of tennis, but seeing two heart-warming USA athletes competing for the semi-finals is great to see. I still don't know who I want to win. It's in the 5th and final set right now with Blake leading Agassi 5-4.

And it's about time too. While I don't think it's going to be that good of game, seeing a meaningful game of pro football will be great.

I have to give her a pass on this, it's kinda like the Bob Feller deal a few weeks back with Latino players. They're so far out of real time, it doesn't really matter.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 11:44 PM) At least we know we won't be hearing from Willie talking about how he doesn't like what Hawk is saying about him on the broadcasts. lol yeah. If there was one person on the Sox team, it could possibly be Willie though.

yep, I just saw that like 10 minutes ago. I saw that Maddux got the win against the Cards and had to go look at the records. I don't root for the Cubs, I root for Maddux to get another 15 win season. But that doesn't look possible this year. -
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 11:40 PM) Guys...I promise...I have no money right now...if you make the playoffs and there are tickets available...I will fly back to Chicago and suck some up. I wish I could promise the same thing.......

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 11:38 PM) The stupid thing about this is we are going to break an attendance record this year. The place has been packed night in and night out. Yet in one series against the worst team in baseball after Labor day the trib decides to jump on this, and our players instead of making nothing out of it, lend quotes that will be featured on the radio and ESPN like crazy. Its one freakin series. They will have plenty of people watching the angel series this weekend. Yeah, I thought I remembered hearing about the Sox breaking the attendence record this year. The fans have came now, probably not as much as the Sox would have like to seen, but it's getting better.

QUOTE(knightni @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 11:34 PM) Nikolas Tschkivili is Russian for Shawn Bradley. lol yes that's his name.
-
There always has to be some controversy with the White Sox.
-
Nene should get better. The Nuggets had 2 lottery picks, they picked some guy that I can't pronounce his name at the 5th pick and I believe Nene at the 7th pick. So far that's turned out to be a bust since the other guy is with the T-Wolves now I think, and Nene hasn't quite panned out yet.

QUOTE(knightni @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 09:11 PM) 9 left on base now. This is no way to beat the worst team in baseball. no kidding, we can't afford to do that against Los Angeles/Anaheim.

Yeah I'm pretty sure Iguchi won't win the Rookie of the Year. I don't think players coming over from Japan that have played there for years should be awarded it either.
-
We deserve to have a home opener, he hadn't had one forever until this year it seems.
-
The first few years he could've done a better job with, but he was probably learning to be a manager. But when you basically give the division rival Cubs your best players at the time and give up Giles and have Kendell leave, there's not a lot you can do.
-
I'm just saying that right now I prefere Viz, but I haven't seen McCarthy in a relieving role. My opinion could change.
-
Glad to see him up, and I hope he can contribute this year for the Mets and in the future, however long that may be.
-
I think Contreras should be our 4th guy in my opinion. And I would favor not having McCarthy on the playoff roster just because I think the other guys we have had worked pretty well most of the year. But if Hermanson can't go, then sure, let's see what McCarthy can do. Jenks, Cotts, Marte, Politte, Vizciano all deserve to be on the post season roster.

QUOTE(Antonio Osuna @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 12:28 AM) Of course, had the Sox acquired him, he would not have been in the situation he was in to get injured. But, sheesh. Griffey is going to be famous not for his accomplishments on the field, but for his stints on the DL. And that is hard, hard, hard to do with the kind of numbers that Griffey has. Yeah I was thinking the same thing, but who knows, maybe he could've gotten injured even worse hear.
