QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Oct 27, 2009 -> 07:59 PM) I don't think it matters if Nix can play other positions. As long as he can handle the one we ask him to play, i don't think anyone can complain. Getz is the viable backup here anyway. My argument is to play Getz across the field, and keep Nix at second. It's both the optimal offensive and defensive alignment. Ideally, we can find a left-handed presence for the corner Of and/or DH spots. It does matter though. Right now Nix doesn't project as a starter. You keep overlooking the most glaring weakness in Nix's game. He cannot hit right handed pitching. So unless they changed the makeup of pitchers in the majors, he will face a majority of right handed pitchers. They will exploit him over and over from the right side. So unless a lightbulb moment goes off and he suddenly learns how to hit righties, he is a mitigated player. And the evidence states that this is not a guy who is a natural when it comes to offense. He struggled at numerous stops with advanced pitching. His scouting report talks about how he has power, yet presses at times that nullify his contact rate. He doesn't have enough of a pedigree to state that he will all of sudden become a guy who can hit right handers. There are plenty of examples of right handers who can hit lefty pitching yet have problems hitting righties. They rarely project as starters.

QUOTE (scenario @ Oct 27, 2009 -> 11:06 AM) Not much good to hit 20 homeruns if a guy hits in the low .200's and has a sub .300 OBP? Low OBP means more outs per at-bat... which is death to an offense. I don't understand the fascination with Nix. We already had this type of player on this team before, Uribe. And he drove me nuts. The main difference is Uribe played plus defense at 3 positions and actually did hit 20 dongs in a season.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 26, 2009 -> 10:15 PM) Im pretty concerned about the technical type questions, I have some experience in IT as I worked for Astellas Pharma last summer in their IT dept but still dont have much overall experience in the field and havent taken many classes on it yet (just a soph this year). So if he knows of any type of technical type questions that would be great. I know a fair amount about the company culture as my manager over the summer used to work their for like 17 years and she already called in a recommendation for me. I wouldn't worry so much about the detail of technical questions. Coming out of school they are probably more worried about how you will fit into their culture, their vision, their plan. If you have the basics, and look to be a quick learner and a hard worker probably means more than what you can regurgitate in an interview. Down the road when you start to interview for more senior level technical positions is where you get the kitchen sink thrown at you from a technical standpoint. But for your first few jobs its about how you fit their culture and what kind of raw talent you have.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Oct 24, 2009 -> 11:57 AM) My point is that he never should have been playing SS or LF for that matter. Jayson Nix isn’t a utility man, he‘s a damn good second basemen. Chris Getz, however, has experienced some success all around the field in the minors. That’s where I think he belongs in the bigs. If he can be serviceable off the bench, all-around the field, I see value in him. Mostly, because I really like the mindset that he brings to the table, I don’t think he has the proper skill set to start for a team in the AL, but I really do think he’s the most fundamentally sound player (other than AJ) on this team. Until Nix can hit right handed pitchers with more consistency, He is a utility player. Currently Nix is a right handed pull hitter who has success against lefties but gets exposed against righties.

Vatican welcomes Anglicans into Catholic Church

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Oct 22, 2009 -> 10:58 AM) There's another possible motivation, there are a large number of more liberal Roman Catholic churches in the US, and there have been a number of rumblings about possibly creating a separate American Catholic Church which represents a more liberal view towards social policy. Could this also be giving precedent to allow American Catholic Churches more freedom to have their own policies and views on social issues and still remain the Roman Catholic communion? Similar to what the Church of England has done with the Anglican communion. The vatican doesn't work this way. They don't want an independent church or more liberal social policy unless it comes from vatican decree. This is what it is. Its a basic play for new converts and churches that have a similar ideology. -
Oh Steve Phillips, how do you surprise us?

QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 20, 2009 -> 10:54 PM) Maybe they needed fewer child-molesting clergymen... They could solve that by allowing clergy to marry. That and their crazy secrecy and inability to apply the laws of god and punishment to their own. Lets excommunicate the young rape victim who has an abortion, yet Father Pokey gets a new address because of the complaints from the locals on his production of Roman Polanski's greatest home hits with the local altar boy population. -
QUOTE (DBAHO @ Oct 19, 2009 -> 08:34 PM) Spain - Barcelona and Madrid. Have heard Barcelona is a very cool city to check out especially. Sevilla's a cool place too, also right on the beach apparently. I'd also check out some of the French countryside, and places such as Nice, Marseille, have heard they are pretty spectacular. Spain is definitely one of my favorites. My cousin just came back from Ibiza, had a lot of fun.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 17, 2009 -> 07:48 PM) I got Verizon FIOS installed today after I finally got them to get their s*** together with the install date. This stuff is crazy fast... I had cable internet before and I figured it was pretty fast, but when I would have my upload speed set to "unlimited" for torrents, it would get to about 250 kb/s and start choking my network so I had to throttle it down some. I got the FIOS installed and I noticed it was doing everything pretty much effortlessly at the speeds I had set, so I bumped it up a few notches, a few more notches, then I just set it to unlimited and it went up to like 2800 mb/s... that's faster than I used to be able to download on my old connection. I haven't even tried the download speed yet. Fiber to the house is a pretty cool solution. Even U-Verse here doesn't do that. I wish Verizon was here with their solution. Have fun with your pornification.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 18, 2009 -> 10:49 PM) On a sidenote, I want more Wolfe. When he's in the offense looks so much better, well at least the running game looks semi-existent. As a person who went to a ton of NIU games when Wolfe was starting there. The key to Wolfe is to use him with Sweeps, Screens, coming out of the backfield for a pass. It was funny watching him in college. They would pitch the ball out, and he would get around the tackles and run like hell. If they ran it up the middle, he would have a hard time. I had him pegged as a Dave Meggett type player. A change up back, that could be consistently brought in on 3rd down to give them another weapon. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 18, 2009 -> 09:35 PM) With the way Kreutz got blown up on those plays a sneak would have failed miserably. Thats the point. Kruetz is giving it up. I think on the 1 yard line your large QB might have a chance to maybe find a bit of leverage versus your running back who is starting 5 yards back. The line is getting blown up anyway. The QB at least has a chance, where as Forte is just meeting defenders a step into his handoff. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 18, 2009 -> 09:23 PM) Hey Garrett Wolfe! My Brother in law went to NIU, and I spent a lot of time going to see games with Turner first and then him over the years. Pretty much if NIU ran outside the tackles with a sweep Wolfe ran like crazy. If they tried to go between the tackles. He got stuffed just about everytime. -
