  1. Two things. Our rotation next year is going to be sick. Absolutely sick. Polanco would look pretty damn good over at 2nd, hitting 2nd for us. Slide Beckham down to 3rd. He might be a hell of a lot more affordable than anything else out there.
  2. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Oct 1, 2009 -> 10:10 AM) Both men came out a little tentative to start, sort of like they were both scared to make the first wrong move. Kimbo throws a little bit, which works for him but then Nelson gets him down & pretty much just lays on him, gets him in the crucifix position and just kinda plays pattycake on his head. Kimbo gets out of the 1st. 2nd round, Kimbo throws a bit better. But then more of the same happens, Roy gets Kimbo down & just kinda gives this soft shots to his head. But since he's not able to get out of the position he's eating these shots, but not even taking serious damage since the punches suck. So understandably the ref stops it since he's taking all those unanswered "shots." Nelson gets up & you would of sworn that he just destroyed him by his attitude. Kimbo got exposed by a wrestler with limited ju-jitsu. What happens when he faces a heavy weight with a proper ground game. Someone that doesn't just sit on him. Kimbo is a one trick pony. He may knock you out. If he faces a striker he has a chance. If he faces anyone with a ground game he is done. On the other side of it, Roy's only thing going for him is he is fat, and can ride out the guy. He doesn't have enough of a presence on the ground to inflict damage. He also gets gassed pretty quickly.
  3. So the second runs scores because Lillibridge has a brain cramp and doesn't throw out Laporta at 3rd and throws it across the diamond. Next play is a Sac fly.
  4. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 30, 2009 -> 09:43 AM) I miss Juan Uribe Do you miss him enough to have him playing 3rd everyday and Gordon Beckham being called up for September call ups. In the end, if Uribe is on the team Beckham isn't option 1 to replace Fields at 3rd. Beckham >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Uribe
  5. Hopefully they put hudson's spring training locker assignment right next to Peavy. If that slider can rub off on Huddy, man.
  6. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 10:22 AM) I'm very sorry you feel offended by my post. My fandom was questioned therefore I responded not in a negative or sarcastic way but in a way in which I could express my thoughts. Obviously if you were at the game my original post was not directed at you . I was merely pointing out the the "play the kids" theme I hear is just frustration talking and inevitably will produce more of a losing team which in turn will not be as supported as a winning team. I took my kids to the local park. I wasn't at the game. I did however drop 200 bucks a week ago to watch the Royals destroy Mark Buerhle and the vets, so maybe that can give me a pass. Its the end of the season. Watching the kids play is the only thing worth watching. In fact, the only reason I checked the box score from time to time on Sunday was due to the fact that Hudson was pitching. We are in a transition from the older core to a new younger core. Hudson and Flowers are part of that new core. I would like to see what they can do, get their feet a bit wet this year.
  7. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 09:45 AM) lol. As a long time Sox fan, I do what I can to support them. I pay for Extra Innings on DirecTV to watch them. I buy tix to game in Anaheim and Dodger Stadium. I have a file in my bookmarks dedicated to Sox blogs , fan sights. Palehose 6, 7, 8 and 9. minor league affiliates pages , just about everywhere I can read info on the Sox. A total of 46 bookmarks on the Sox alone . Thousands of Sox baseball cards dating back to the 1950's. World Series DVD and memorablia. A Sox program from the 70's in which my dad and a couple of my brothers had their photo taken on an ad for Family Night. About 10 different Sox hats and various clothing. I don't get too high when they win or too low when the suck. I rather be positive than negative and trust me as old as I am I have seen a whole hell of a lot of bad seasons worse than this one. All Sox fans to me are great but you 20 somethings cannot understand being a Sox fan all your life and never seeing a team in the World Series , living year after year supporting a team that never had a chance to win the pennant before they made divisions to give more teams chances at the postseason like my father and grandfather did. So excuse me if I point out that it appears to me a few people talk the talk but don't walk the walk. I'm not saying I'm a better fan or a truer fan than anyone here just more seasoned and appreciative of seeing the Sox going through a time where they are more competitive. But you are. This is why you are posting this nonsense. Enough with the self richeous crap. I am sorry I wasn't in the game thread oh overlord of soxtalk fandom. I decided to take my kids to the park, it was a nice Sunday and all. I don't think people need a lesson in fandom from anyone.
  8. Ozzie just had a nice tirade. Something about the players not caring and watching football games.
  9. Don't see how that is practical for this area. I think between the winter weather, the plows getting snow off the ground and whatever de-icing strategy they put in should kill those expensive panels pretty quickly. I would like to see this work on homes, and businesses. We are looking at using Solar in the summer to offset our air conditioning costs in our Data Center.
  10. Don't know if I am the only Supernatural fan, but this season is pretty cool so far. Nothing like a little end of the world battle between Angels and Lucifer. The best twist is that the Angels without God looking over their shoulders, are not that far off from the devil.
  11. QUOTE (elgonzo4sox @ Sep 23, 2009 -> 10:35 PM) I agree you can try to win with a bunch of kids. It's what we've been doing most of the year in the infield, with our rookie 3B, our rookie (at this position) SS, and two rookie 2Bs. We have to give these kids more time to learn their positions and gel. Next year will be better than this year (could the fielding be much worse?). I think Buehrle is still a better starting pitching option than Torres. But I do think Castro has been bad enough to warrant Flowers getting a chance to catch even while the Sox are still in "trying to win" mode. Buerhle's velocity is down. His control isn't there. He has a lot of wear and tear on his arm. There is no reason to pitch him. If he gets hurt over the next 2 weeks because we keep trotting him out there when the division is over, then someone should lose their jobs. Shut him down. And reload for next year.
  12. QUOTE (elgonzo4sox @ Sep 23, 2009 -> 10:29 PM) Has nothing to do with fantasy versus reality. I'm just saying a better rule to live by is always keep trying, as long as you have a chance. Anything less sends the wrong message, that it's OK to quit under certain circumstances. Then the question becomes: what exactly are those circumstances, and does every player on the team get to apply their own judgment? This team laid down and died over a month ago. So please stop with the, we all need to grind and tough it out and play 27 outs. They haven't done it in a month. So how about we play the kids and see if they can play hard and give the effort you wish. The multimillionaires are working on their short game for their tee time in 2 weeks.
  13. QUOTE (elgonzo4sox @ Sep 23, 2009 -> 10:19 PM) OK, so you can quit when the tragic number is 2. Now tell me when it is OK not to run out ground balls, pop ups, or dropped third strikes. I didn't say the Sox's odds are good, but the rule should be: keep trying until you are called out. You have a better chance of having Megan Fox come over to your house and rock your world than the Sox winning the division this year. Evaluating for 2010 is what we should be focusing on. You know, the division we have a chance of winning. Not the mythical one where both the Twins and the Tigers both drop dead, and the commish awards us the trophy. Step away from fantasy land for a second and embrace reality.
  14. QUOTE (elgonzo4sox @ Sep 23, 2009 -> 10:09 PM) You run out every ground ball. You run out every pop fly. You run to first if you don't think the catcher caught strike three. And you play every game to win, until you are mathematically eliminated. The tragic number is 2 after tonight. Even Rudy from the Notre Dame movie would play the kids after tonight.
  15. QUOTE (son of a rude @ Sep 23, 2009 -> 09:42 PM) I really hope Nix is our starter at 2b next year I understand that Getz isn't the end all and be all, but the Nix for starter crew needs to dive into the numbers a bit more. Jayson Nix cannot hit right handed pitching, you know the predominant hand of the average starting pitcher. If anything, a platoon might appear again. Jayson needs to prove he can hit right handers before we proclaim him a starter. .210BA/.308OBP/.663 OPS against righties.
  16. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Sep 23, 2009 -> 09:56 PM) He also had a nice double and doesn't look overmatched up here. I hope Ozzie DHs him and gives him a few starts at C (especially not to mention work with the pitchers) for the rest of the season. Our elimination number will be 2 I think now if we lose tonight? Play the kids. Flowers should play every single game through the end of the season. We should also let him catch a few games to give AJ rest. Ozzie won't until an AL Central champ is crowned.
  17. QUOTE (son of a rude @ Sep 23, 2009 -> 09:51 PM) Ug, Flowers out... Considering the only thing we are playing for right now is 2010, why not let the kid hit.
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 23, 2009 -> 02:57 PM) yes. I am a rain God. Al-righty Rain God. Quit with the storms and all. Our location just outside Campinas keeps having power issues which means I get early calls.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 22, 2009 -> 09:08 PM) Why is that so logical. That one bat was a total can of corn. I didn't see the first one. If Rios gets his act together we'll all be happy. Some of us are down on him for his sub .200 average with the Sox right now. That's all. The last ball was crushed to the warning track in center. Are you watching the game, or watching the plot graphs on a gametrack program.
  20. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Sep 22, 2009 -> 09:00 PM) Though he's only 1-3, I gotta say it's encouraging to see the abs that Rios has had. He could have easily been 3-3, 2 hr's right now. Stop with the logical posts Ace. Rios is terrible 4 evah. People around here forget, this is a lifetime .280 hitter who has had multiple seasons of success. Then again most of our fanbase barely even knew who he was before he showed up.
  21. I wouldn't be too upset, if Dotel were to plunk Mr Bat sniffer, Gomez.
  22. I went to a few of these tryouts towards the end of my college career. They break down to two formats. The combine style where they break OFs, INFs, Catchers, and pitchers and run them through different drills. You get gunned if you pitch, they time your release and throw to second if you catch, etc. The other is a scrimmage style where you play games in different fields. If you get invited back for the next day, you are probably playing a scrimmage game against the better players from day one. Who goes to these things. Everyone. You will see guys who look like they belong no where near a field, and others that look like they could play in the minors. You just have to go there and understand that it is a lottery shot. As long as you have a thick skin and a good attitude you won't have a bad time. I have seen 2 players in all the ones I went to get signed on day II. One was a pitcher from Oklahoma. He lit the gun up at 94 mph. The other was some 6'4 240 pound catcher who threw lazers down to 2nd.
  23. Congrats Gage, and the future Mrs Gage. Hopefully your friends are working on the most important thing about your upcoming nuptials.....the bachelor party.
