It's The Last One!!!!! Game Thread 9-2-09
southsideirish71 replied to ChiSox_Sonix's topic in 2009 Season in Review
QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Sep 2, 2009 -> 11:14 AM) If the Sox go to a team that relies on "manufacturing" runs in the AL and with 81 games in the Cell they'll lose and be a terrible team. Don't get me wrong, this team has, and seems to be, getting more athletic with a little more speed, but with the league and home ball park they still need to put some focus on power. I think most people go to polar opposites when they talk about lineup construction. The reaction to our issues with offense is that we need to abandon power hitters completely. its really about a balanced lineup. You need a power core in the middle of the lineup to provide high OBP, power, and the ability to drive in runs wrapped around with more pure hitters. Guys who can make solid contact, don't strike out and can hit doubles are the pure hitters that can augment your lineup. Having 9 guys who swing for the fences is dumb, as is having 9 singles hitters. -
If we can pick up another top tier talent and add it to our young core and add type A free agent this offseason. We would be on the short term track to getting a lot better. You have to like our chances next year just based on our starting pitching.

So sad that we are in the American League and our pitchers have to be perfect to get a win. A few runs given up, and Danks is going to get hung with a loss. -

QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 08:40 PM) And that's one of the main reasons I hope if Pods is back he is only our DH...never to touch the field unless its an emergency. Having Scott Podsednick as your DH is basically telling everyone we are shooting for a 60 to 70 win season. -

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 08:09 PM) age The mirror images of Pods. Has a great play where he lays out earlier in the game. He follows it up with a bad route to create a triple. -
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 11:27 AM) I guess calling him T-Flow is ultimately cooler and hipper than thinking of him as the effeminate skunk in Bambi.

Who will the dome goblins scare if the sox don't come by. -
I would try and stay away from repeaters. All you are doing is making your network more complex. I would see if you could pull an ethernet cable from your basement to your middle floor and host your N AP there. N devices usually drive signal pretty good due to the multiple antenna array in each AP. Remember if you are using the 2.4 gigahertz version of N, you are sitting on a limited pool of channels. Only 11 of them ( 3 of which are unique ). So you might want to do a quick site survey around your property and make sure that one of your neighbors isn't overdriving your AP. With it being in the basement you are driving your signal through some dense material. The more layers, the less your signal will propagate. Moving it up to the middle floor, and picking a least congested channel should work for you. As Y2HH said, 5 gigahertz is a nice wide open space with less interference. Too bad most N devices seem to only use the 2.4 gigahertz side of the house instead of being dual banded. I just spent some time at my brothers house who was complaining that his wireless suddenly was terrible. The little old lady next door bought a new G router and used large external antennas to create a large blanket of coverage. She happened to choose an adjoining signal to my brother and basically killed his signal through his house except within 50 feet of his AP. Here is another fun fact. Other things in your house can cause issues with your wireless signal. Use those old 2.4 gigahertz phones. Yeah they use frequency hopping and step all over your signal. Microwaves also throw up a nice interference blast. Powerline devices do work, however they have their limitations. If you have something that uses a lot of power in spikes, say like an Iron. My network used to go up and down the minute the heating element in the iron would power up. For you windows users. Here is a pretty damn good little tool for use for in house surveys. Not only does it give you information with SSIDs and channels, but if you look over to the lower right hand corner. It also shows you what it looks like as far as the channel overlap. And of course it has my favorite requirement for a tool, its free. http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider

Classy guy. I hope he gets his ring with the Dodgers.

QUOTE (jphat007 @ Aug 28, 2009 -> 09:28 PM) They sure as s*** better. We're not gonna have much money for a bullpen which is obviously a glaring, glaring issue. I don't have a clue what we're gonna do there next year. This we won't have money for anything because of Peavy and Rios is a bit much. We have a lot of money coming off the books over the next 2 years. We will be fine. We are kind of straddled however due to the fact we have given a guy like Linebrink a 4 year contract. Its not the money, its the fact that he is here for 2 more years.

QUOTE (jphat007 @ Aug 28, 2009 -> 09:25 PM) Let's see some of the young guys in September. I want to see Flowers come up. CJ and Viciedo would be nice to see as well.

Our team loves those eye level fastballs. To bad that the eye level fastball is not something that gets put in play by our team that much. Unless we count the sky high popup to the catcher or foul territory.

QUOTE (whitesoxmanager @ Aug 28, 2009 -> 08:25 PM) with the go ahead run at second and beckham at the plate would you have pinch run for Castro? would it have even mattered? How about option C, don't run your backup catcher on a charging RF with a decent arm. Getting guys pegged by 3 horse lengths is dumb.

Thome with the golden sombrero.

Beckham and a sweet hit to right. We are tied. It might be nice for Cox to pay attention to who he has running. He seems to send people no matter their speed. Its almost like he sees very fast guys on the basepaths.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 28, 2009 -> 03:45 PM) So I am looking into IT Governance as a future career and I am currently studying General Management with a double major in IS/IT. Im not sure yet what the IS/IT classes will offer me in the technical side of the field, and though I am more interested in the management part I feel that entry level positions will require more technical knowledge. Ive taken the basic computer programming class (mysql, vba for excel, html, etc). Any other suggestions for classes that I should take to prepare me for future jobs (if any). Thanks y'all. The tech part is the easy one for most people, even though I would argue good tech people are rare. For me its being able to communicate tech to the business. You can be the most talented engineer in the world, if you can't talk to the business your career will only go so far. Try and get involved in some of he IT groups in your area. ISACA would be a great place to start. Its a good place to network for you. Maybe you can work your way into an internship. If you are looking at governance. Keep a good idea of the governance models, and the feeder models as well. COBIT, and ITIL are the prevalent ones. Remember ISO 17799/27001 as they are used more in Europe from the security side. As mentioned before, PMP never hurt anyone. Companies are always looking for people that can manage a project. Good project managers are hard to find. Also look at the business trends. Six Sigma is the trend at my company these days. Everyone we hire no matter what track in the company has some sort of Six Sigma belt. I was lucky enough to work for a company before that spent a lot of time training their advanced engineering team on the business side of the house. We of course hated it at the time, but now later on. I am very thankful I went through that.

QUOTE (onedude @ Aug 26, 2009 -> 09:00 PM) Can September get here soon enough? Need to see what 2010...and on looks like. What makes you think that Ozzie is going to play kids in September. In 07 he threw out his vets for most of the games. Get ready for a steady diet of Wise and your kid will be Lillibridge.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 26, 2009 -> 08:45 PM) It's like clockwork with the offensive slump in August. What is up with that? Is anyone held accountable? Nope. Hardest working coaching staff in the AL. We just get unlucky that our players stop hitting for months at a time. Its also unlucky that they pucker up after the ASB. Between the cold of April and May, and the pressure of August and September. I hope our guys have a killer June and July to get in their numbers for the year.
