QUOTE (VAfan @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 02:27 PM) Why did KW trade Nick Swisher this offseason
-
The ability to sign a Type A free agent without having to give up our first round pick would be nice as well. I would hate to get to 16th, and then lose that pick due to Kenny signing Figgins because we won a game too many.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 09:21 PM) You gotta admit Rios reminds you a lot of Anderson at the plate. Not a flame. He's a stand up hitter who can't hit. -- Pena. Please have your 3rd good game in a row!!! Rios has had 3 years where he has hit .290 or better, has had 40 or more doubles twice, He is having a bad year. Stop with the Anderson comparisons. Its shows ignorance. -
Obama Speech on Health Care, 9/9/09

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 08:12 PM) Yes to all of it. I was fairly impressed with this speech, I gotta say. No matter what you can say about Obama, he is a damn gifted speaker. In the end, the devil is in the details of how this gets paid for, and how it gets implemented. -

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 08:04 PM) Not in this kind of setting. There's a difference between an address and "question time." Respect the office. I thought it was outrageous when the Code Pink jackasses interrupted Bush's speeches. They however are not elected officials. The elected officals should know that is about the office of the president. The other thing is the pep rally affect. This has been going on for years. One side jumps up, claps like they never heard such a great thing. The other side keeps sitting, makes faces and looks grumpy. The dems did it with bush, and the republicans are doing it with Obama. Its dumb either way. How about a new rule ( not to sound Bill Maherish ). Keep your ass in the seat until the speech is over. No response to the speech until its over good or bad. Its a speech, not an interactive talk. -

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 07:52 PM) http://www.politico.com/blogs/glennthrush/...ed_You_lie.html The heckler, Congressman Joe Wilson, R-SC. Stay classy, Congressman Wilson! The president of the united states is still the president. Respect the office especially when he is addressing congress. If you are so bent out of shape over what is said, rebut it later. On another note, what is with the crazy color scheme by the female members of congress. It looks like JC Pennies had a sale on red. -
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 10:58 AM) Were there school districts around the country getting bullied into not airing Bush's speech? No, I don't remember of any school refusing to air this based on pressure. Any school district that does this is silly and shouldn't do it. A presidential address to children about school is a good thing. You don't have to identify with the party, its about the office. But then again I haven't seen any congressional hearings or Obama officials being called to testify about the funding for this event. Interesting the NEA must be a complete different animal depending on what party the speech comes from. The speech is pretty damn close. Yet here are the 2 different sound bytes of reactions by the same organization. 2009 1991

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 10:36 AM) I get it. Eye for an eye. You were outraged in 1991 that some Democrats criticized GHB so now you have to "get them back". I have no problem with Obama or Bush or any president addressing children on the merits of staying in school and doing good. I thought it is stupid for people today to get upset about it, as I did in 91 when people were bent out of shape with the same exact thing. I find it ironic that democrats are upset about the same exact outrage that they expressed themselves back in 1991. I am not outraged at either event. I find humor in the delicious irony though.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 10:13 AM) Can you point to me the political advertising part of the President's speech yesterday? Can you show me the political advertising in the 1991 Bush speech which pretty much is similar to the one that Obama did yesterday. Bush Speech 1991 to Kids The president addressing children in school is a cool thing. I had no problem with Bush doing it in 1991, and I don't have a problem with it with Obama. I find the democratic outrage about questioning the speech humorous though due to the fact that they basically did the same thing back in 1991. Hell they even took things a step further.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 09:05 PM) Wow, just checked in. Sox getting clobbered by another bad team. Has any Sox team ever tanked so badly against bad teams?? Generally we do OK at home against very good teams. Maybe its just that the good teams that play us also struggle against bad teams. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 02:41 PM) Q flat out sucks at this point, why cant he hit a fastball down the pipe? It cant possibly be his foot. I think he bought into his own hype from last year. Last year he was an impressive hitter who destroyed the ball based on a solid approach. Now he is trying to make it happen, and is pressing too much. A home run should be the result of a well executed swing. When you go up there trying to hit home runs, sure you may run into one. But you become Rob Deer and generate outs in a large amount. Hopefully he gets his perspective back and goes back to being a hitter. His natural swing will generate enough force to get the ball out. He doesnt need to go up there trying to hit a homer. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 02:33 PM) Its what keyed his run from the low .200's to up over .310. Once he quit, he quickly has come back down. He has great hand speed, and there is no reason he couldn't live out there. He had a short quick swing, excellent bat speed and a great eye. When he thinks right and right center first he is a very very dangerous hitter. Now he is getting more pullish, and his power numbers have went up however his effectiveness has went down. He doesn't have enough of a power stroke at this phase in his career to value homers over doubles. He should be looking to get on, and drive the ball into the gaps. -

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 02:29 PM) Beckham needs to go back to the bottom 3rd of the order. He seemed more comfortable there with less pressure on him. Its not the pressure. Its his approach. When he starts getting back to more line drives to right and right center he will be fine. His power has gone up, however he is getting out in front of the ball more and that makes him less effective. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 02:29 PM) So when did Gordo quit trying to drive the ball the other way? That was what made him so effective. ^^THIS^^ -

Next ST can we hire someone to teach our players how to run the bases. Add that to the people who need to teach fundamental baseball, how to catch and throw the ball and how to execute a run down. -

It would be nice to have a W to end our experience at the dome. Lots of sox teams who have been better than their twinkee counterparts have peed down their leg in that dome for no reason besides scary dome goblins and self induced fear of fundamental baseball. -

Can we draft another one of these Beckham types next year. -
We had this discussion back in 2007. To me this is about long term importance to the franchise over short term glory. In 2007 we used Frank, Robin, Alex as comparable's for top 10 draft picks. The first time we get a top 10 pick we add a stud in Gordon Beckham. He will have more of an impact to our franchise than a few more wins would of in 2007. A 78 win season sucks, just like a 72 win season. Its shades of bad. Within the top 10 you have a good chance at getting your impact player. Robin Ventura, Frank Thomas, Alex Fernandez did more for season ticket sales than any losing season did to take away from them. Young superstars are worth their weight in gold. Its not always about them getting to the majors as well. A few years back we could of added Miguel Cabrera if we had a better class of prospect.
