KW: "It's a shame" the Sox are being portrayed as cheap
southsideirish71 replied to Jose Abreu's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Wait till they "prove" they are not cheap in the offseason loading up on nonsense FA's at the end of their career with name recognition. Next offseason will be a reactionary spend on nothing. -
Great fundamentals, a hallmark of a whitesox player.

Great website. I love the fake antivirus warnings and bogus links to download malware. -
Mr Harper, let me talk to you about deferred compensation and how tomorrows dollars are worth more than todays. If I could pay you tuesday for your ABs today.

http://www.ethicsandentrepreneurship.org/20090720/interview-with-jerry-reinsdorf/ That is a pretty awesome dig into the thoughts of one Jerry Reinsdorf. Do a search and highlight of the phrase break even. Reinsdorf: First of all, if you want to be successful, you have to follow basic business principles. The problem in sports that keeps people from doing it is that every move is chronicled by the media. There are so many people who own teams who are afraid to be criticized by the media, so they make stupid decisions just to make the media happy. I, on the other hand, delight in doing what the media doesn’t want me to do. And that’s not a good trait either. You have to make your decisions without regard to what the media thinks. Sometimes they’re right, and sometimes they’re wrong. Kaizen: Did you need to develop additional skills in order to make the transition from being in real estate to being head of a sports organization? Reinsdorf: Not significantly. Being a CEO of a sports team is a lot like being a CEO of any other business. It’s not your job to perform the various tasks that are necessary to run the business. It’s your job to identify what positions have to be filled, and go out and get good people to do those jobs who can do them better than you can do them, and make sure that they talk to each other. Kaizen: So you’re a human capital talent scout and developer in that respect? Reinsdorf: Exactly. Any CEO essentially has to find good people to do the various jobs. I read a book once called The Time Trap, in which former [Illinois] Senator [Charles] Percy was quoted as saying the CEO has only three jobs: long-range planning, public relations, and identifying good people to work for him and making sure they talk to each other. Reinsdorf: It’s a lot easier, first of all—I want to add one thing and I’ll get to that question. In regular business—if there’s one big difference—you try to make as much money as you can. When you’re running a sports business, what you really want to do is win and break even. So I’d rather win and break even than finish second and make a lot of money. But I don’t want to ever lose money. As far as your question—being competitive and winning is the best marketing tool you could possibly have. Kaizen: Can any amount of business strategy make up for a team that’s not performing well? Reinsdorf: Sure. You have to be smart enough to know when your team is not good. And when your team is not good, you’ve got to make sure you can control your costs really well.

Machado signs with Padres 10/300
southsideirish71 replied to yesterday333's topic in The Diamond Club
The Whitesox are listed as the runners up. But all things being equal they really were the third team. If the Yankees 240 million dollar offer was real I am sure Machado would of picked the Yankees over us. 10 million isn't enough to overdrive his wishes. It was argued on the board when the Yankees were in it that we needed to bid above them to take that consideration out. In the end, 240 million would have made him a Yankee if we were the high bid at 250. -
I await the annual attendance call out by Don Cooper. That should go well.

Getting Denard Span tells me that we are doing the same thing that we used to with Kenny in charge. Aged vets who we once coveted are suddenly picked up when they are on their final legs.

Will Yonder and Jay be gone by midseason?
southsideirish71 replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/chicago-white-sox/yonder-alonso-7281/ The irony here is the whitesox are about to show how plate appearances work for vesting. And how a mythical 320 million ( really 250 million ) is not really more than 300 million. The number for Alonso is 550 plate app ( that number sounds awfully familiar ). He is either gone or he wont make that number. You cant make this clown show stuff up. -
The Indians hired Kai a year ago. Here is a combination of analytics merging over into practical development. Would of been nice for the sox to have this guy teaching the next group of sox infielders. My only hope is that Vizquel has an impact in the minors in AA.

Looks like Alonso told Machado how awesome San Diego is. -
Hahn "Kenny, everyone is mad we didn't get Machado. I don't like this." Kenny "Alright lets fallback to the old #3 of responses to look like we are doing something. Look at this fine crop of 35 year olds. Something is still in the tank. Lets sign a few of them" Hahn "We missed out on Machado by 50 million and we are about to spend damn near that" Kenny "Well JR is okay with that because we got more of them for our version of 50 million instead of 1 guy for that. More players equals more opportunities" Hahn "Well if you say so. The one guy in the analytics department is talking about negative war." Kenny "That nerd never even took batting practice. Let me worry about the talent you worry about that money stuff. I think we are ready to go for it"

These participation award trophy threads are predictable. Let me tell you how this horrible thing is a blessing in disguise. Nope, not buying it. A 26-year-old generational talent who plays in a premier position at a very high level and mashes the ball. 1.) Who cares if the baseball player is a dick or has a personality you don't like. His job is to be a very good baseball player not to be your buddy. 2.) Anecdotes about your feelings or your perception about what is happening are not germane to reality. Sure he could get hurt tomorrow. Aliens could take over tomorrow and outlaw baseball. Yellowstone could start to pop and dump volcanic ash on half the united states. Why does this stuff always seem to be projected with FA that we miss out on. Our #1 pitcher prospect could wreck his UCL and require Tommy John just after activating his service timer. I mean this all goes both ways. We need our prospects to hit and hit in waves and a few of them to be absolute studs. Outside of that, we need to sprinkle around real major league talent at a high level. Because in the end some of these prospects are not going to be superstars for whatever reason. Some of which you would use the farm as trading chits and the others will require a FA or 3. 2.) Adam Dunn is left handed. That's about as much as he has in common with Harper.

Money isn't everything is their thought, except it is. What's the draw of the white sox offer besides overwhelming money. Its money and it always has been about money.

Bauers reaction to the Padres signing Machado. -
Brooks is polishing up his marketing campaign for this year. "I am not a whitesox fan because of superstars. I am one because its who I was born to be. People doubt us, people are against us. Its about the name on the front of the jersey not the back. White Sox baseball, from my cold dead hands will you drag my jersey. " That should get at least 10s of tickets sold.

The next part will be to watch how they handle the development of our current prospects. Wait till Ricky benches Eloy for some stupid reason such as he didn't sprint out a pop-up or decides to teach him the need to bunt. -
Knowing them. Probably Eloy.

That wont happen. I am convinced KW is the leak to the press.

That was the Whitesox strategy for the central with KWs tenure as GM. Rearrange the deck chairs, hope for regression from the division, and a healthy surprise. Profit.
