QUOTE (StrykerSox @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 09:21 PM) Wait, I'm the only person who likes this? Hmm. I don't have a problem with long games or even baseball's pace, but to throw something in to extras to raise the stakes, I love it! It reminds me of NCAAF starting OT at the opp's 25, and I am a huge fan of college OT. Now, full disclosure, I was at CitiField for the final game of the 2010 season. Non-contender Mets vs. non-contender Nationals. 1-1, top of the 14th, Oliver Perez walks four straight, Mets go down in order in the bottom half and everybody scoots off to play f***ing golf. Yeah, sorry, liven that s*** up. I guess the baseball gods were making up for letting me watch a no-hitter from the front row earlier in the year in Atlanta... In travel baseball this is how they break ties in tournaments. Put a man on second. They also make it 1 out with 1-1 on every hitter. California rules. It sucks.

Looking at the video it looks like an underweighted ball as well. It was a 3oz ball.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 17, 2017 -> 10:51 AM) Falling down afterwards? Yes I have seen that as well with these. I was at a facility on Saturday night where 4 minor league guys were doing the same thing. One hit 104. He usually sits around 94. In the end you dont want to fall down with them all of the time. But it does happen. Its a max intent drill.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 17, 2017 -> 10:41 AM) Yes, this is idiotic. Why endanger yourself? No its not idiotic. Its a run and gun and lots of pitchers do this as part of velocity work. I guess we should stop outfielders from doing throws on the run as well.

QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 8, 2017 -> 03:08 PM) Semien is turning into a very good SS with Oakland. 27 HR and his defense has become pretty solid now that he's not being asked to change positions every two weeks. Its amazing how he got better the minute they attached a fielding expert ( Washington ) with him. Our top end infielders should have a fielding coordinator working with them everyday to improve their defense. Its not hard, just treat the minors like a baseball academy instead of just rapidly promoting people.

Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox

QUOTE (Wanne @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 06:41 PM) My point was you have deals like Dansby Swanson, Inciarte and Blair for Shelby effing Miller!...how in the hell did that even happen?!??!?! How the hell was Swanson in that deal. DBag fans out here are still livid. So regardless of if they're more or less coveted...you have a ridiculous deal like this happen! I agree prospects are coveted...but who's running the show changes the dynamics. My fandom is fine...thanks for caring tho! What is the front office that gave that all up for Shelby doing for a living right now. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 08:08 PM) One thing I'm particularly happy about with this thread is that it seems like the White Sox aren't going to play around with him. They are coming right out and saying "we're going to put him at 2b". That's a positive sign and exactly what I would want them to do with him - make a call and stick with it even if they have needs at other positions. The job is to turn him into a decade long all star - everything else is subservient to that goal. Washington was brought in by the A's to work with Siemien and to help improve his defense. Ozzie Drills, 2 and 4 step work, short hop work, clock drill work. Just hard work of taking reps over and over. They did a lot of basic mechanical work with him to help him become better. I am positive that the sox have someone who has a similar role with the sox. I can only hope that they attach that person with our young prospects and focus on their defense. In the minor leagues the only thing I want is the prospects to have the best and brightest talent to work with them and help develop them. From Defense to hitting to our pitchers.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 05:35 PM) In my experience in the game, just as a player and also around some college and low level pro coaches, CF is as much instinctual as it is athletic. Hell, hit him 5000 fungos before April and see if when you hit it he goes and gets them with no missteps or wasted energy (hello Adam Eaton in CF). If he does, maybe he's a natural out there but if can't really believe the Red Sox didn't already do this. If was a natural out there, he'd probably already have been moved. We'll see. As I said earlier, 3B, 2B and CF are all within 5% production wise (hitting) in MLB so whatever position he ends up at is fine, just play it at least league average. This isn't a situation where he's moving to LF or 1B. Same here as well. The idea of X player will just play this position that he never played before. It requires thousands and thousands of reps to drill in some of this first step footwork for those who never played the OF especially a premier position such as CF. Unless you are okay with your really fast player chasing balls he misplayed in the gap or on the other side of it getting hurt because he is trying to make up for a bad jump and diving. In reality we need to make sure we attempt to develop him at his natural position first. I don't see lots of people complaining that Dustin Pedroia, Javey Baez or Jose Altuve are wasting their talents playing 2b. Middle infield is a premier position and I dont care if my best athletes are up the middle of the infield first.

Legitimate chance of Sale trade to #Nationals per Rosenthal
southsideirish71 replied to DirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Hopefully this little episode will prove once and for all the value of a good well stocked farm system. I have seen how posters would rather win a few more games in September and not get a higher draft pick. Two of the players we wanted were gone right before ours and now we are trying to trade for them. I have seen insane posts about how "well the sox cant develop the minors so whats the point". I hope that the sox dump huge amounts of money and talent into their development operations. The key for the sox to have sustained long term success is their minor league operations and scouting. The ability to locate not only guys who will be on the major league roster but also as valuable trading chits later on. In the end Sale is going to be traded due to the failure of the teams ability to keep a pipeline to the majors open with cost effective options. Now we have way to many holes to fill and we need to now swap out something amazing at the major league level to bring back stability for many a position. -

I dont know whats more entertaining the actual trade banter or the panic screams from the tin foil hats. OMG HE WENT 0-4 IN HIS FIRST GAME. CUT HIM. -
Legitimate chance of Sale trade to #Nationals per Rosenthal

QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 11:42 PM) We've been discussing how a trade for Sale would be "franchise altering," and how it would "hurt" the team who traded for Sale. To me, neither of these things are in evidence for a TJS survivor and a sub .800 OPS hitter in A+. You know what? A prospect's subjective ranking is only one data point. A player's craptacular results are another. Why do posters want this front office to be responsible for a rebuild, again? We should totally just do what we have been doing. That has worked out so well. Keep running into that wall. Eventually it will move. -

QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 11:28 PM) Holy s***. A post-TJS pitcher who sucked out loud in his MLB debut, and a sub .800 OPS in A+ bat is the centerpiece of a supposed "franchise altering return?" After seeing what Shelby f***ing Miller cost, the domestic abuser Chapman cost, and what Andrew Miller cost, this proposed deal is a f***ing insult to SOX fans. You've got to be f***ing kidding me. Unless there are significant additions to this deal, we should be disgusted as fans. Pointless to get upset over fictional returns on trades that haven't occurred yet. Plenty of time to light your torches. -

Potential + Effects of the World Series?

QUOTE (SpankyEaton @ Nov 2, 2016 -> 08:56 PM) I just hope they wake up after seeing what the Cubs have done and see the light to rebuild. There can't be untouchables, only assets going for a rebuild. Thats not how Kenny works. He is going to look at a flawed team with 40% of their starting rotation down without a viable offense. All this will do is to allow Kenny to believe that realignment of th deck chairs on the titanic will bring them to the promise land. He will look at the landscape of the central and decide to go for it.

The indians dont deserve to win this game. s***ty defense, stupid baserunning.

QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 2, 2016 -> 07:43 PM) Flinch with the glove That is so minor. It would never get called. It almost is consistent with moving the ball to get a different grip.

QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 2, 2016 -> 07:40 PM) Doesn't Joe West always call balks? https://mobile.twitter.com/Kosderka18/statu...8277764/video/1 Where is the balk here. Looks like a quickmove.

QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Nov 2, 2016 -> 07:36 PM) Lol the Indians suck and they will be lucky to win this game. Blows my mind that they are in the World Series. Their lineup is worse than ours. A certain executive is watching this thinking the same thing. Hence he wont rebuild.

Its real simple Indians. Its a RH. When their back foot moves, he is coming over to first.
