QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 31, 2008 -> 12:35 PM) That was all part of the "flash forward" which revealed itself with Jack meeting Kate at the airport. His father was dead already. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Jan 31, 2008 -> 12:57 PM) Right, but why would he say that? Does anyone else know that his father's dead? He was trying to use his Rx pad, too. QUOTE(AssHatSoxFan @ Jan 31, 2008 -> 01:23 PM) I can see it from both sides: Firstly, like you said he was drunk so he wasn't in a great state of mind and might have just been spouting off about his dad; also, no one actually confirms his father being alove. Otherwise, as we know Jack founds his dad's coffin but without a body. He has "seen" his dad alive on the island even if it may only be visions. So there is no direct proof that his father isn't dead but in all likelyhood I would have to go with the fact that he was just drunk and wasted from the oxycontin Even as he says it he points in a direction, as if his dad can be found in another part of the hospital. But like you said AHSF, maybe he was so messed up he halucinated again. And from the scrolling notes at the bottom of last night's episode, they confirmed his dad drank himself to death.
-
When Jack was drunk at the hospital, he says, "go find my father and see if he's more drunk than me right now", or something along those lines. But it was a flash forward into the future when Jack had a beard, so clearly his father is dead when he says this. Is it a clue to something?

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jan 29, 2008 -> 02:34 PM) 80-44 w/Pods in 2005 19-19 without. I got as fed up with Pods as everyone the last couple of years, but it's borderline retarded to say that he didn't have a big effect on that 2005 team. That is not a scientific analysis. Year Record when Podsednik Starts Record when Podsednik doesn't Start Sox Winning % increase when Pods starts (%) 2005 80-44 19-19 29 2006 75-46 15-26 69 2007 31-25 41-65 43 It seems as though in the years you were fed up with Podsednik, he had a greater impact on our win total (using your method) than he did in 2005. We should get him back from the Rockies and start him no matter what, we would probably take the division.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jan 30, 2008 -> 10:30 PM) How can you compare a team sport with an individual sport? And don't tell me golf isn't a sport, because I can see this is where this is going. How would you know winning a super bowl, after you've thrown 5 incterceptions and sucked ass (just throwing out a hypothetical) and your defense wins you the game compare to winning as an individual over the best in the world at what you do, is better? Tom Brady has a track record of excelling in the postseason just like Tiger is great in major tournaments. 3-0 in the Super Bowl, 2 Super Bowl MVPs. If they win on Sunday he will be tied for leading his team to the championship as much as anyone ever has, with great potential to win another. He has like a .900 winning percentage in the playoffs. And it's quite easy for me to compare team vs. individual sports. I've had great individual accomplishments in athletics but it doesn't compare to the feeling as when your team wins something great.
-
Yeah I want to trade my life for someone else's just for the things left behind when they die. For me it's about the experiences, not the legacy. And winning a major tournament can't touch a super bowl championship with a 20-foot pole

QUOTE(iamshack @ Jan 29, 2008 -> 06:29 PM) Well, in my opinion Konerko and Dye underperformed. Crede was out for most of the year. Iguchi did not perform well, and our not being in contention was part of why he was traded and we had Richar's production. You can claim that our players played to their "career" averages all you want, but with many in their "peak years" in a hitter friendly ballpark (where there "career" averages were not compiled), I'll argue to the end of the earth with you that what we got out of most of our offense was on par with what is expected of them at this stage of their careers in this ballpark. PK and Dye did underperform. Compare PK's '08 season to the previous three (roof removed). Both had BABIP below average and lowest in several years. Konerko missed his ZiPS OPS by over 60 points and Dye missed his by over 100.

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Jan 29, 2008 -> 01:16 PM) It's the butt chin, isn't it? I thought it was spelled bundchen

I would rather be Tom Brady and it isn't even close

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jan 28, 2008 -> 09:17 PM) I watched all 3 seasons of LOST in the past month and I am f***ing obsessed with this show. Can't wait till Thursday. You can watch all 3 seasons any episodes in HD for free and I love abc for that

QUOTE(BearSox @ Jan 27, 2008 -> 08:17 PM) http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22871543/ As of now, it looks like Jones was the only good prospect Baltimore got, and I am not fond of Jones at all. I think he is over hyped due to his athleticism. Jones cannot be the only good prospect involved, I'm sure at least one of Clement, Balentien, and Triunfel is gone too. Maybe more.

His favorite number is 13 but Ozzie has it

sox working on extensions for both Jenks and Cabrera

QUOTE(knightni @ Jan 26, 2008 -> 10:13 PM) Troy Percival, Robb Nen, Matt Mantei, Armando Benitez, Eddie Guardado, Keith Foulke all had their arms blow up in one manner or another. That group also has an average career 232 saves -
I was going to chime in and agree with you on that one, but I was thinking of HORSE the band. That was by far the craziest show I ever saw

QUOTE(beck72 @ Jan 26, 2008 -> 07:51 AM) IMO, if the sox could net either Lincecum or Cain in a deal with Fields as the centerpiece, you do it. Especially if you don't have to add a SP like Danks or Floyd in the deal. Worst case scenario would then be Danks outpeforming Floyd and Floyd being dealt in ST as he's out of options [Danks in AAA to start 2008 wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, as it then would provide the sox with a very solid option to call up]. You worry about who's playing 3b in 2009 in the offseason to get a stud SP [yet there has to be strong possiblity if Crede returning, with few teams willing to sign Crede to a long term pact w/ his back issues-and rather low avg and OBP numbers. Crede has a ton more value to the sox with his D and power]. Fields may never hit for a high AVG or post a high OBP, even with his HR's. With the addition of Quentin and Swisher, Fields is a bit more expendable. I think there is a world's difference between getting Lincecum over Cain. I wouldn't even trade Fields for Cain straight-up for reasons I stated earlier. They are both more valuable staying where they are now. Fields can hit pop-flys that somehow make their way into our bullpen while Cain can give up 380ft shots to the gap that are just long outs. Lincecum is a totally different story as he misses more bats and does a better job keeping the ball on the ground. Lincecum has 3 pre-arb years left opposed to Cain's 1. But this is moot anyway to get either I think Konerko would have to be included.

QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Jan 24, 2008 -> 04:27 PM) Would anyone be interested in doing a SoxTalk mock stock market game online? QUOTE(3E8 @ Jan 25, 2008 -> 01:47 PM) Absolutely. I will look into setting one up on Investopedia.com QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 25, 2008 -> 03:23 PM) I'd try it. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 25, 2008 -> 03:52 PM) Only if its not just stocks. Can we trade futures and options too? QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 25, 2008 -> 04:00 PM) I'd love to do futures and options! Ok guys I set up a game on investopedia.com. It officially starts one week from today, but feel free to join at anytime. I set it up to include options as well. Group = Soxtalk Password = whitesox

Absolutely. I will look into setting one up on Investopedia.com

Nice work, much easier to read than the last one. My only suggestion is white text for those blue ARB spots

I don't want this to come off sounding like I tihnk Cain is a bad pitcher, because he's not. But he is an extreme flyball pitcher. I'm talking GB% less than 40%. I looked at BIP data from his last season in the PCL ('05) and he was almost under 30%. More than 6 out of every 10 of his innings thus far have been pitched in AT&T/PETCO which isn't hurting him at all. Plays to his style. I wouldn't expect him to put up numbers even close to what he's done so far in the unlikely event his home park became US Cellular and he had to start pitching to designated hitters.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 12:36 AM) Freddy does not want a fire under his ass; he would prefer it be in his bowl. lulz -
Why does Ramirez have to go on the 40-man?
-
QUOTE(kane0730 @ Jan 21, 2008 -> 09:07 PM) So who does this take off the 40 Man Roster??? Maybe another deal is looming. By my count we only have 39 now
-
Yeah, that is basically the jist of it. But I consider that video more of a refresher to those who have watched seasons 1-3 because it's been over 8 months since our last episode. If you just watch the recap of 1-3 then go into season 4 you might be able to pick things up but you're really doing yourself an injustice.
