  1. QUOTE(BlackBetsy @ Dec 7, 2007 -> 07:54 PM) Two years of Roberts for 6 years of Gio and 6 years of Richar? No thanks. Look at what Richar's projections are for next year. I think Bill James's handbook has him at a .280/.340/.440 level, which is close to Roberts career average. Richar and Egbert, yes. Richar and Broadway, yes. Not Richar and Gio. It's .277/.338/.451 to be exact. And as much as I'd like to see that from Richar, I definitely wouldn't bet on it. That would be my optimistic prediction. I found so many of James' offensive projections to be that way. Richar has a career minor league ISO of .149 with over 1500 ABs in two of the most notorious hitter-friendly leagues (CAL and PCL). He's going to increase that ISO by almost 30 points in his first full major league season?

  3. Man I get so many bad ones because my Dad always got me a couple presents only because he thought were funny/cool. The worst was probably a Bears hat with a built in radio. I'm talking adjustable cap with plastic dials and metal antenna extending out the top. When I saw them use a similar item on the UK Office to epitomize a bad gift, I was cracking up. Also my aunt once got me a girls sweatshirt after mistaking it for unisex.
  4. Bears, you are the undisputed king of posting lineups
  5. I also noticed the Pirates DFA'd Josh Phelps who I thought might be a good RH power bat to spell Thome and AJ (career 112 OPS+, .864 OPS career vs. lefties), but I didn't know if he could still catch because he hasn't for several seasons.
  6. QUOTE(Calderon @ Nov 29, 2007 -> 02:05 PM) Barton's intriguing, and an odd story. It's not often that you see a guy go undrafted out of a powerhouse like Miami and then rake (even at an advanced age) in High-A and Double-A. Teams were scared off by an internship that he had lined up at Boeing thanks to his aeronautical engineering studies in college. Cleveland went after him and signed him cheap as a FA. He can play. I can't comment on his desire this past season, but he can play a bit. He seems pretty committed from this Q&A Brian Barton Q&A
  7. On a related note, what would be an appropriate gift for a co-worker who just had a baby? It is a guy, so do I get a gift for a baby or for him and his wife?

  9. I don't think you should try to compare his season to Braun's. Young's age is being understated in my opinion. At age 21 Braun was playing for University of Miami, and Delmon is holding his own against major league pitchers. And I wouldn't say he strikes out a ton, his K% was 18% which is only slightly above his minor league rate. His patience seems to be the biggest concern, he really cannot draw walks. But if I were a Twins fan, I'd be pleased with this trade.

  11. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Nov 27, 2007 -> 07:24 PM) I can't help but notice that two celebrities (namely, athletes) died very young this week. Will there be a third? The guitarist/screamer for Hawthorne Heights died too, was only 25
  12. QUOTE(max power @ Nov 25, 2007 -> 05:00 PM) You seem to be suggesting that if his pitch count is low, he will pitch better. I think its more that if he pitches better, his pitch count will be lower. Exactly. Outings where he has his good stuff he won't be walking people or giving up hits and he will tend to throw fewer pitches. I would expect to find the same discrepancy in ERA for all relievers.
  13. It depends whether he continues his downward trend next year or not. Most any metric you look at for last season will tell you that Cordero was twice as valuable as Linebrink.

  18. Has anyone had an extended look at Egbert the past two seasons? The mediocre stuff thing may be overblown, his secondary pitches could be developing better than we know. Over the past 300 innings he's struck out one batter per inning while allowing less than 8 H/9. This can't be just smoke and mirrors and cunning and guile. At southsidesox.com's recent community prospect list I have Egbert as our #3 prospect behind Gio and DLS respectively.
