  2. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 09:11 PM) It seems that maybe a 3-way deal could be worked out with the Sox giving up Crede to the Yankees, Cabrera to the Sox, and everything else to the Marlins. I participated in a Miguel Cabrera 3-way trade and all I got was this lousy Joe Crede

Just asking because I like it far more than IKSoSE

  12. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 12:54 PM) You're right, and that's just lazy writing/reporting by BA. Anyone who's seen him knows his problem is with fastballs, and anything above the belt. The fastball problem is because of his set-up, initial take away. His hands go back and up as he starts his stride. They then go down before going back forward with a mild uppercut swing -- a good hitting coach would be all over this loopy long loading, but Greg Walker's not worried -- The result is he cant catch up to a good fastball, and because he lowers his hands before he takes his swing, he can't hit anything in the upper half of the zone. He's hit well against breaking balls because the loop hand loading makes him wait back on those pitches. He'll hold his hand up at the bottom of their path before going forward and crushing a ball. His setup/load needs a Crede-like overhaul, and then he'll need to relearn how to hit breaking balls without a hitch in his swing. Also calling him a high average hitter in the majors is extremely misguided. He strikes out 30% of the time. He's got average speed. There's little chance of him becoming a .300 hitter. His best chance is to improve his batting eye while continuing to improve his power. I basically echoed your analysis in a post a couple weeks back which I don't want to look for. Below is a video to emphasize what we are seeing. Fields' hands start at his shoulders and dip slightly below his chest before bringing them back up. With the downward movement in his hands during loading, he just doesn't have enough time to raise them again to catch fastballs above the belt. But he has little trouble with offspeed pitches that enter the bottom-half of the zone with this swing, as seen here.
  13. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Oct 11, 2007 -> 08:52 PM) Which is all the more encouraging if his velocity is as what's reported in this thread. How often do pitchers throwing below 90 miss bats at such a high rate and limit home runs without deception, specialty pitches or superb location? He obviously has something to his benefit which explains the success of these last two seasons. Pitching without fear isn't reason alone. Egbert has good command of his curve ball and won't hesitate to throw it at any time. To go along with that, he has a plus change up. Yes his average fastball sits below 90, but it has movement at least. He's probably not raking up the Ks on that fastball. But with those two secondary pitches he can obviously keep minor league batters off-balanced enough to sit them down on strikes at over one per inning.

  15. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Oct 9, 2007 -> 09:49 PM) I FOUND MY HOUSE!!!1!11! Oh man looks like they stopped at Naper Blvd so my house got missed by a couple thousand feet
  16. QUOTE(Steff @ Oct 9, 2007 -> 03:16 AM) I can appreciate your defense. It's a shame you are unable to respond in kind. It is my right to post my opinion of him based on incidents as I have seen and heard them. I'm sure it's hard to hear negative things about someone you have seen in a different light, but I saw what I saw and heard what I heard. And for the record I never said the man drank or was drunk. Are you sure it wasn't Tim Raines that you saw and heard? We have two people that know Razor and posted he's as straight edged as they come.

  19. QUOTE(Chombi and the Fungi @ Oct 8, 2007 -> 06:02 PM) Definately. We all like to make jokes or serious opinions about the Cubs. In particular guys like Wood and Prior. In all honesty though, Wood I still think was an overrated strikeout pitcher who had one game that carried his career. Prior just had those fluke injuries. If he is healthy, I think all he needs is a little confidence. What better way to give the man confidence then to have a rival team show belief in him and give him an opportunity to stick it to the organization that gave up on him. I'd say give him a good deal. Overpay a little and have it loaded with incentives and options. At worst, he doesn't pan out and just gives some of our young prospects more time to develop without being bombed in the show. If he pans out and can return to form, then we stole a 15-18 game winner who is still kind of young and not quite in his prime. He wouldn't have the desperation and "savior" pressure he got on the Northside and is still comfortable because he is in a place he has lived the last 6 years. All in all. I would at least try. I do think the Cubs will keep him though (just as they did Wood) but maybe they will want to rid themselves of the memories. And yes witesoxfan, you're right. He signed that 5 or 6 year deal for like 80-90 million. I remember it now. Prior has had several shoulder injuries which are no fluke. Barring a complete change in his mechanics, he will always be injury prone. If we could avoid him that would be Just Ducky

Same here. Something about foods with that color, consistency, and taste make me gag unless masked by several other flavors. Yogurt, cottage cheese, mayonnaise, sour cream, yuck.
