This is kind of interesting. Of the top 30 rookies in VORP, 3 players actually had negative Marginal Lineup Value. Two of them were Chris Young and Josh Fields. For their respective positions, they have the lowest MLV of the top 30. And if you were to look at VORP rate to even the playing field, Young and Fields come in last. This obviously doesn't mean they were the worst rookies offensively, there are guys like Andy Gonzalez with negative VORP. But they were average offensively. Which is still a good accomplishment for just your rookie season. I realize Young is oozing with potential and always showed improvement in the minors. I doubt he provides "just average" offensive output for long.

Does anyone know how accurate their individual player projections were that lead to their prediction of 72-90? I know PECOTA usually undervalues our pitchers, and I'm sure they didn't predict every position player except Thome to be below average offensively. You can take one right or three lefts and still end up in the same place.

You're right, that was incorrectly worded. He didn't have a signability issue like Porcello had a signability issue. He would just cost more than Lucy.

Lucy wasn't a matter of scouting, it was signability. Everyone knew Suzuki was better.

They will have to pony up because there won't be much action for us in the first few rounds to spend on. Looks like we'll have pick nine and then pick nine.....ty nine.
