QUOTE(The Critic @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 03:42 AM) Oh, Christ, I haven't been to Smart Bar in AGES. Probably close to two decades since I set foot in there. I don't know what goes on there anymore at all. Local H is playing Subterranean this New Year's Eve. Double Door hasn't announced their NYE show yet, so now I'm wondering if there's some bad blood there. Weird... YEP, something must've happpened. But wow, they're playing that sweat box?? That's gonna be insane.

Watched 'Gone Baby Gone' last night. Overall, it's a good film, but the moral dilemma that the main character faces has really stayed with me. I'm a very black and white type of person and I can always definitively say what I would do if I was facing certain situations, but on this one, I'm unsure. As a side note, is it my imagination or is Boston EVERYWHERE nowadays? Aside from the success of the sports teams, more films are based in Boston, every comedian and actor seems to be from Boston. This whole Boston pride thing is pretty interesting when you consider that every film depicts it as a white trash, bigotted s*** hole run by crooked cops.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 02:13 AM) Scott was on Local 101 last year around the 10th anniversary of the Halloween show, and he said enough was enough for him. He was heavily involved in arranging the show - which bands would perform, who they'd be, and all that, and he said he needed a break from it. (I guess it cut into his side project time - aside from the Ministry/RevCo/Pigface guys, Scott has more side projects than anyone else I know of) I didn't see Scott or Brian walking around, so unless they had one of the "headed" costumes (I saw a couple Homer Simpsons walking around, and some other costumes with head ornaments) they weren't visible at the show as far as I saw. I'm guessing they'll play it next year. Sounded like Scott just didn't want to deal with it this year. Does he still DJ at Smart Bar once a week? Will they be playing their usual NYE gig at DD this year?

"Fans of the show interviewed by The Daily Redundancy had mixed feelings on the issue. "I think its disgusting." said Heather Bancroft, aerobics instructor and part-owner of the Tofu 4U Vegetarian Deli. "I know they're men, but they need to cover those things up. They look like a big candle melting in the sun." Boobs are boobs, they're just bags of fat, on men or women. I guess Heather hates her boobs too?

QUOTE(The Critic @ Oct 28, 2007 -> 05:06 PM) This was the first year that Local H wasn't involved in the DD Halloween show at all, so the first band portrayed after their involvement was....Local H! (A fact the Blackbox singer "complained" about as Scott - "we headline this thing EVERY YEAR, and now we're OPENING???") Local H heard about this, and now they're having a contest on their website where bands can send in a picture of themselves as Local H for a shot at opening a Local H show AS Local H. I thought that was very cool! I wonder why they didn't play? They're always heavily invovled in that show. It was probably by choice and I bet they were there somewhere. That's a funny contest idea. Those guys are the two least rock start guys you'll ever meet. Very down to earth.

Pretty interesting documentary on Showtime about medical marijuana. So, this guy on the east gets 300 marijuana cigs delivered to his home every 25 days. They're rolled by a machine and sealed into like a large coffe can. The can is labeled so that he knows when and where the pot was grown. It is sent to him by the US government. That averages out to 12 CIGS PER DAY. He chain smokes pot all day, at home during breakfast, on the drive in to work, steps out of the office during work, at dinner and before bed. That must be some really low grade s***. A brief clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PIreC_nqio0

Heard about this a couple of days ago. Who the hell runs FEMA?

The Maquerade Ball at DD was one of my favorite nights in Chicago. I'm confused, Blackbox went as Local H? Did Scott Lucas or Brian play at all ?.....and yes Brian loves birds and you'd better be one hard hitting MF if you wish to imitate him.

I have a feeling Joe is going to come back 100% from surgery. But I understand why the Sox would doubt it and not sign him long term.

I hope Joe really is ready.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 06:13 PM) If you have a couple of minutes to kill this is painful: http://warmowski.wordpress.com/2007/10/05/jump-in-pitch/ Good stuff. "The long haired, cheesebag anthem". I didn't realize Bad Brains was still together.

The moon looked red tonight due to to all the smoke in the air. Full and red, kinda cool actually.

QUOTE(knightni @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 05:28 PM) Gone With The Wind was in color. See what I mean? I've never had a foursome.

I've never: watched more than three episodes of Seinfeld. watched more than 3 minutes of M.A.S.H the tv show. watched Leave It To Beaver. watched 'It's a Wonderful Life' or 'What a Wonderful Life' or 'What a wonderful world' or whatever the film is called. watched any of the old black and white classics like Casablanca, Gone with the Wind, etc.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 24, 2007 -> 11:03 AM) Yup. Of course, the team's payroll has been huge for years now (compared to previously), and all these luxury add-ons are one of the reasons why its possible. Catch 22. By the way, one great way to get closer to the players for cheap is going to Spring Training games. Only problem is having to fly out there. Hmmm... Figure if you go cheaper on Southwest or something, you can get to Tucson for $200 or less RT. Add in two inexpensive hotel nights, that's another $150. Maybe even with the airfare and hotel its actually cheaper to do Spring Training. Ding. ST is the way to go. You forgot to mention much, much smaller crowds.

The Governator says that people are happy because the relief effort is going so well. Happy? I'm not sure that's a good choice of words.

Holy Crap. The skies around here are kinda smoky in the distant and I'm about 120 miles away. Ran into some evacuees last night, it took them 8 hours to get here from the SD area. Winds expected to pick up tonight again. SD Chargers practicing in Az. because their stadium is a being used as a shelter. 360,000 acres are being affected and that figure will rise.

I'm torn. I'm a White Sox fan, so I'll always root for the less popular underdog. However, all I've done this year is run my mouth about how the AL is SO much better than the NL and how any of the 4 playoff teams from the AL would steam roll any of the 4 team from the NL.....so the Bo-Sox had better win in 5.

So, this band is building a rep for being loud. They've had a couple of shows shut down due to city noise ordinances. Is anyone here into them? A Place To Bury Strangers http://www.myspace.com/aplacetoburystrangers

QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Oct 22, 2007 -> 10:20 AM) The Indians lost that's it. You win and lose as a team. We spend too much time trying to pin failure on one event rather than overall performance or lack of it. Skinner must have made a quick decision based on what he saw in front of him and it was wrong, but one more run would have made the final 11-3 Red Sox. Thank you, it was one play and one run. I guess every losing team needs it's Bartman.

Did I miss this in another thread? Tony "The Royals will win the division, I guarantee it" Pena will be interviewing for the Yank-Me job?

QUOTE(shipps @ Oct 21, 2007 -> 06:00 PM) I was thinking the same thing.I pretty much exclusively come to sox talk for this thread and it has lust its luster the past couple months. You come here mostly for this thread? That's interesting. Well, wacha got for us??

Interesting. Every time I look at Byrd he looks like he's just come off the best night of his life.... and I don't mean a really spirited bible study.

I made two purchases today ...yes I still buy CDs. Something old and something less old. 'Styx Greatest Hits'. Seriously, what a great voice, even among all the cheesy power chords, wanky solos and noodly keyboards, the vocals stand out. Styx with average vocals would have flat out sucked. 'A Band Of Horses'. I feel like I'm listeneing to two great, great tracks over and over. I like it a lot, I just wonder how much replay value it's gonna have. This thread is losing steam lately. What's new and interesting??
