While I agree with most of this he's having success in his current role. Confidence means so much in any sport and he might want a quicker path to an MLB paycheck. He may have just found his niche.

You're an empath aren't you ?
-
Yeah sure teaching us to be responsible, having to do chores to help out with everything it takes to run a household and making sure our grades didn't suffer while paying Catholic school tuitions in grammar school and HS on a 1 income household is the epitomy of lazy and uninvolved .
-
You're probably misinterpreting the situation. A lot of boomers came from just the father working homes with big families ,one car, 3 or 4 brothers and sisters and that was middle or younger lower middle class in Chicago. While you play sports there are 3 or 4 more kids at home that need both parents attention. You want to play sports ,fine ,your grades better not suffer , you still have chores to do because with that many kids mom's exhausted. I know its not ideal but showing support is not easy with big families when the sibling are usually very close in age and you got a mortgage to pay ,backs to clothe, and got to put food on the table . Couldn't play favorites. Kids were mainly meant to be seen but not heard, old school discipline . Go to church every Sunday. Get out of the house and come back when the street lights go on. We aren't coddled in any way.If you want to do this ,fine,, it's on you to take the responsibility and know you wont won't get out of anything you are currently required to do to make this household run smoother. You will not be prioritized over your siblings. Maybe they didn't go to a lot of games but they developed your interest in sports to begin with by going to the park or out in the street and actually playing with you and your siblings whether it was playing catch with a football, baseball or a Clincher.

That's a long long stretch. Especially when you're not getting a good draft choice. Getz isn't changing JRs mind in anything nor will having the worst record in modern baseball history. JR has this whole thing planned out and it has nothing to do with winning baseball games.
-
At this point if JR fired Getz it would make me think Getz is actually trying to improve scouting and development and JR would consider that a breach of his trust. What are you doing Gez ? I told you to allocate most of the budget to player acquisitions. What do you mean by I can't get any good players with $50M ? You're fired ! I'm sure it's just me but Getz seems like he's sneakily throwing JR under the bus with some of the things he's been saying.
-
You are a Getz defender .Shame on you ! What ? Oh you're in the grey area that's made up of JR is the much bigger problem , were stuck with Getz until JR figures out that Getz is doing things he doesn't like or is incompetent or JR becomes no more , and his heirs sell the team ? Welcome !!
-
Larry Himes may have been the last Sox GM to actually stand up to him. It's probably why he was fired . @Lip Man 1 Did Himes ever disclose why he was fired .He was pretty successful as I recall drafting some big names that turned the Sox into a very strong team.

Exactly. Goal 1 is make money for himself his investors and his heirs. Goal 2 is to win. It's a top priority until it interferes with Goal 1 which with his ultra coversative approach, it happens all the time .

Not expecting Robert to rob a HR but he sure looked bad on it. He jumped backwards and hit the wall . Get back, jump straight up. Tigers with 3rd 4 run inning . -

At this point I'd tell Vargas to imitate Judge's stance and hands position. Couldn't do worse than he is now. -

Maybe Barkett should've cooled his jets talking about a 23 yr old lighting up lower levels. While it was impressive AAA has been a challenge for him and power has vanished. Before spring training of 2023 they had him in Miami with recently fire hitting instructor Mike Tosar along with Luis Robert . Basically since then hes had problem sticking with the Sox due to lack of defensive and base running fundamentals and failure to improve his strike zone and pitch recognition. He got very little playing time with the Sox in 2024 appearing in 13 games and hitting .273 (9 for 33 ,all singles ) and .1 bWAR. He turns 26 in mid September and Sox haven't seemed interested in calling him up despite Grady Sizemore being a former star , nearly superstar, level OFer for 4 straight seasons before he was ravaged by injuries.

Keys to the White Sox future with Paul Janish...

Initials costs to beef up scouting and player development would be more expensive but the continuing cost once everything is in place would be less. Yes personnel will need annual COLA but computer , biomechanical and other machines and facilities would only need periodical changes when they become outdated every 5 yrs or so. In every system there is personnel to do grunt work which goes to interns but there are intelligent people graduating with degrees in these areas too with a passion for sports sciences. You'd need a good headhunter and competitive wage scale with good benefits. I don't know how it works as far as number of year round full time employees there are but Tampa Bay has been doing it for years and always does pretty well. I'm pretty sure JR could make it work and would have more money to spend then the Rays ownership does The Rays have never won a World Series yet. But if the Sox could emulate TB success in the toughest division in baseball with top spending teams like the Yankees and Red Sox , surely it can be done against teams in the Central who don't spend top money. Cleveland is already trying to become the TB of the AL Central. They're winning and have a top farm system. -

Check ebay. The one I have is the 2005 World Series Collector's Edition. 7 DVDs. Game 3 of the ALDS. Game 5 of the ALCS. Games 1,2, 3 & 4 of the World Series. And a Bonus DVD I also have a couple of Commemorative 5 pin sets. Ones a Limited Edition . # 1245 of 2005. The other one is # 3394 of 5000 which I like more. The pins are bigger and more colorful. -

Lots of good players playing good and having either one of their best or career years. No HOF players except Frank Thomas who only played in 34 games and none in the post season. Without knowing the percentages I think the majority of World Series winners had at least one HOF playing in the World Series especially before playoffs were introduced. Can only find teams without a HOF at all and since Frank was a HOF the Sox don't qualify as a team without a HOF player . The 1988 Dodgers had Don Sutton starting 16 games but he retired mid season so he didn't play in the World Series. Our friends the 2015 Royals don't have a HOF player yet and probably won't. There are more most notably after the playoffs added wild card teams. The Giant of 2010/12/14 stand out but Madison Bumgarner was a post season God and Buster Posey has a shot at the Hall starting in 2027. -
The fun games are tomorrow. Hagen Smith making his High A debut with the Dash. He's expected to go just 3 innings. Schultz pitching also.
-
Must have hit a nerve. If you love something and I assume we all love the Sox since we all continue to post here we should know we have no influence over what happens to the team. I focus on the bad many times. I just focus it where I think it belongs which is JR. But I can also, since I love the Sox, see some good things and am only reminding people that it's not ALL bad . There are reasons why most of you don't post in the Future Sox section of this board. They discourage the toxicity of Pale Hose talk there . They purposefully try to keep people letting the prospect route take it's course through it's ups and downs without scathing criticism.

8/20 Game Thread: White Sox vs. Giants - 8:45 CT;

Pretty doubtful anyone offered top 100 guys or even if they did the rest of the offer fell short. We've heard the Dodgers wouldn't even offer Rushing for Crochet. During the recent draft I was really torn between wanting Cags but thinking they might take Smith. I posted that the Sox might not get any true high level prospect offers except for perhaps pitchers, catchers and 1st base types. This line of thought held true when the rest of the contenders decided to follow Baltimore's lead and cling to their best prospects. I think they passed on Cags thinking they could get a left handed power 1st base bat in trades for Robert and Crochet if it came to that . But prioritizing 1st base in the draft probably wasn't their goal especially knowing Bannister may be the best hire they've had in years. Turns out no one offered enough to snag Robert or Crochet and the Fedde, Kopech ,Pham trade was just asinine . 3 guys who instantly got put in important roles for the Dodgers and Cards plus Edman now playing CF for the Dodgers equals both teams getting 2 MLB pieces each with Fedde, Kopech and Edman each having an extra year of control and somehow the Cards gave the Sox nothing. -

It is not 2005 any more. 2005 only reinforced JRs thinking that some moves that turned into gold is possible when in reality it couldn't be sustained even the very next year. -

I never said both can't be true but replacing Getz with someone else equally not suited for the job doesn't accomplish anything . And you know that's what would happen.
