  1. I actually think it was realistic knowing his injury history and a chance to sell high . I'm not sure Getz knew which direction the Sox were going to go but once he found out the budget was being slashed Robert should have been traded because it was apparently a rebuild and not a quick turn around scenario. Just based on Roberts checkered injury past you'd have to just lower your expectations for what you could get for him because selling high is the way to get the best value . Soxtalk always over valued how much he was worth and often talked about him being so good you couldn't get fair value which I always found greedy and ridiculous based on how many injuries kept him from being on the field . He was never a superstar but he had superstar ability that blinded fans assessment of him.
  2. It's likely inevitable that he'll find his swing again one day, maybe even this year either too late to get much for him or after he traded for a modest return . I'd just bid him a fond adieu an hope he can turn it around even if the Sox get little for him. There's a chance he continues this slump all year and he then becomes a Free Agent since no one will gamble $20M on him. If that happens it'll be interesting to see what a team is willing to spend on him if Boras remains his agent.
  3. Why ? So he can get injured or forget how to hit again ? He's a part of the past . He can theoretically get you a couple of good prospects who cost you minor league money not $20M per year for just 2 years with the 2nd year being likely a labor strike year. He's a part of the failed past and not the future. Elko's hit more HRs than Robert has since he's been called up on May 10th and that's with being sent back down for 2 weeks. Robert hasn't hit a HR since May 2nd. Since May 13th Robert , in games he's started is 10 for 62 with just 2 doubles being his only extra base hits. 4 RBI in those 17 games. The Sox record is 5 and 12 in those games. Since May 10th, in 11 games he's started, Tim Elko is 7 for 39 with 3 HRs and 6 RBI in those 11 Games and the Sox record is 5 and 6 .
  4. Thanks .It's a lot better than the panic posters who hover over every 10 AB slump.
  5. Throw Teel being called up to the best Sox news day of the year easily.
  6. I've always equated the phrase " days being numbered" as meaning 1000 + days. You don't? 😉
  7. So Ishbia's pull out of the Twins because they have too much debt but the Sox don't apparently. Doesn't sound to me like the Sox are in the red as much as some claim, including you who just said the Sox and Padres have lost the most ( by far) in RSN/ broadcast revenue.
  8. I've heard this somewhere before 😉
  9. Didn't we all used to think that JR being the expert tax guy could always manipulate his books to pretty much always claim the Sox were losing money ? Isn't that part of his schtick as to why they could never land the big fish and echoed by the KW quote about not being able to give a guy a dollar if you only have 50 cents. I supposed things got worse post Covid but it's not like Covid hurt the Sox more than anyone else. The Sox contended for a few years after Covid but it collapsed quickly after locking up players who then took their health and newly signed wealth for granted along with JRs unwillingness to pay for a superstar and ignore development as always. Now we're at poverty level but JR has the money to invest in the 1901 project ? He's just doing everything he can to make his kids as rich as possible. He's stringing the Ishbia's along and giving fans a tiny bit of light at the end of the tunnel. Usually with JR that light is an oncoming train . I'll wait and see how this plays out before I get too excited. I'd be shocked if the Ishbia's put up a billion dollars for a stadium on the 78 unless they have full control 1st.
  10. However you would like a new stadium to be finished while the team is trending towards a playoff appearance, even if I'm having trouble visualizing both of those things now. It's a little too much to wrap my head around at this moment of JRs reign.
  11. Unless you're the Dodgers or Steve Cohen who would love to buy while prices are suppressed even if they are paying out salary to players in a strike.
  12. Knowing how MLB operates to favor the East Coast teams it wouldn't surprise me a bit that a salary cap is finally implemented just when Ishbia takes over.
  13. That's not coincidence ya know. Ever since Bob became Pope Leo things have been looking up . To quote my favorite Chicago movie, the Blues Brothers... "We're on a mission from God."
  14. And to finish your thought for Sox fans unaware of aspects of Sox history, the Sox hosted the very 1st All Star Game and I believe are hosting the 100th Anniversary game. Where that will be in Chicago is anyone's guess. It's plenty of time to build that new stadium.
  15. Looks like about the same time the Ishbia news came out so did CHSN reaching an agreement with Comcast. Big Sox news day.
  16. This sums it up nicely. Now I have to read the Ishbia thread .
  17. Perfect for the 108 or Cork and Kerry boys
  18. Elkoholics Unite !!
  19. Dude I've hardly posted anything the last couple days except for the game thread today. It's asinine to expect to sign a power hitter when they slashed payroll again and didn't even make sign anyone for longer than a year. Who was he supposed to sign ? Even in hindsight if you scan the list of guys with 8 or more HRs right now who was available for $5 or less and over 30 years old and was a free agent. Has some non tender from last year been phenomenal ? You're not even close to living in my head . Your idiotic takes jumps off the page . I'm not here waiting breathlessly for your next post. I treat everyone the same. If you make sense great. If I don't agree I push back a little. If you make no sense whatsoever , I push harder. Go look at your last 20 posts and see how many I've ignored. You can make valid points every so often .
  20. 8 last year is not no power for a bench guy . It's not much though . Maybe about the same as Taylor or slightly less.
  21. Did power become cheap while I wasn't looking ? Please make points that make sense. Power and Strikeouts cost more than $5M a year and more than 1 year contracts.
  22. That's why I don't get pissed about things. Enough good things are happening but way more bad things still. It's not like I have to remind myself it's a rebuild and there were not a lot of prospects ready to contribute in 2024. A few made the cut this year and more are coming. Rule 5 was a big help. Instant good MLB pitchers in a year when TJohn wiped out a lot of arms. Vargas turning it around helps. Robert sucking hurts. Starting pitching overall better than expected because of Smith and now Houser. Some times dumpster diving pays off to make good contributions. Rule 5 is just MLB throwing some unprotected prospects at teams who suck. Teams over protecting position player prospects plays right into the Sox strength if you operate under the assumption that Bannister has a very good rep .
  23. Rojas needs to hit a HR but not likely starting 0-2.
