I sure wouldn't bet on the Sox on the road.

He leads the team in hits and hits with an 0-2 count , 13 which is pretty high. (13 for 40 .325 BA) Next closest on the Sox is 3. The normal MLB BA that at 0-2 is very low. For reference Luis Robert is 1 for 13 (.077) and Vargas is 1-17 (.059). The count has to be 0-2 in these stats when you get the hit.

For now , though there are a lot of Thorpe haters. Things can change quickly while young pitchers go through tribulations.

Good point . Probably didn't want Quero catching day game after a night game. Adjusting to a newish catcher not always seamless but still has to throw strikes which Smith hasn't done. Just not a clot of command today.

Vargas was a simple fix. He already had a good approach and good pitch recognition. He then gained 20 lbs of muscle because they wanted him to drive the ball more. He was still making weak contact however so they identified something in biomechanics that they thought higher hands and flatter (horizontal ) bat pre-pitch would help. Robert is more complex. He's never had a good approach or particularly good pitch recognition which is why with so much bat speed and physical talent he can look so bad.
