Tell me this then. Heyman said he talked to Crochet at the All Star break. If he had that info why did he not report it nearly a week ago. Why hold onto the info till yesterday ? Crochet being hard to move was no mystery to me because of the likelihood of not being able to pitch in the post season plus the high price. It's not like all the other GMs couldn't figure that out too. I don't know why it's suddenly dawned on posters here that's it's as true now as it's ever been.

He might but right now we have no idea if the Sox would ever make an offer like that.More likely they wouldn't given JRs history on pitching contracts and his recent behavior regarding the Sox. The whole issue is a mystery .

Why would it ? Fedde has innings under his belt and should be able to pitch in the post season. I don't know what else Fedde can do at this point to be considered any more valuable. He's getting out the best hitters in the world . This isn't some kind of trick.

It doesn't make sense at all but I'm not particularly shocked that so many actually think Crochet is sabotaging the Sox and pulling some kind of power play. Heymans always been a Yankees shill. I think you're right. Unfortunately he has red flags.Teams may want to see if he can once again be dominant in 2025 and see if he can bounce back. That will diminish a lot of concerns and 2 seasons of post season without restrictions shouldn't diminish his worth that much. Sox could try again to extend him but that still depends on how they limit him in the 2nd half. Some think he's already losing some FB velocity his last 3 starts. It's hearsay at this point. I haven't seen any pitch graphics to substantiate it yet. Anything can happen including a trade at the upcoming deadline.

Maybe I'm paranoid but the extension at high dollars guys seemed a lot louder that I was crazy ?and that $20M per year was a pittance. Buy out his Arb years and extend him another 2-3 years.

That's been my argument. Given the choice to start pitching in the majors right away an help the team he took it. Even if he had done everything some fans wanted the odds were he would've got hurt any way. He was a different guy physically then. He's much bigger and stronger than he was back then but that still doesn't mean he's immune from injury if he keeps pitching . He may be a unicorn for what he done already physically this season but he not Superman.

This I can agree with even if it's been 3+ months, April May June and part of July. I said many times to those saying extend him that it would be fiscally irresponsible given his track record. It easily could turn into an albatross contract . I've repeated it so much that people eventually started agreeing that you should trade him while you can . I've seen one poster advocating for his extension in the $90M range now changng his tune and saying the complete opposite. Typical follow the popular opinion take as long as others have your back and don't call you out about your sudden about face.

Or you and many others believe that this report is some kind of power play by Crochet when it may not be. I'm giving Crochet the benefit of the doubt. How could he possibly believe he can pitch in the post season if he doesn't even know if he can keep pitching . He can't be that unaware of how things usually work coming back from major arm surgery without a previous workload to support so many innings.It makes no sense whatsoever. It's one thing to believe in yourself and crazy to think you will be the one exception to the limits of human endurance.

Guess we'll have to agree to disagree. He isn't a slave to what any team Doctors says . He's entitled to get 2nd opinions. I think you're way out on a limb here. That scenario isn't going to happen . It's all conspiracy hypotheticals dealing with player health .No team physicians is going to say Crochet is not at risk due to his current and previous workload. It's so painfully obvious he's at high risk already and inuncharted waters of endurance.

But a team still has to meet the asking price. And if he is traded will you think he had worked out an extension already ?

There are many many Doctors out there who would say he is already beyond the point of reasonable risk factors given his current and previous workloads and that continuing to pitch is likely to result in injury that not only threatens the remaining 2024 season but his whole career.

I thought you understood by now that I don't trust that report . It's not like it came directly from Crochet in a televised or even a written interview quoting him or his agent. Heyman said that's what Crochet told him at the All Star break. He could have misunderstood his meaning. You d think there would followup questions to explore beyond that. It doesn't sound like something you say casually. I need more context.

There are no contractual obligations to pitch beyond reasonable health limits placed on you by physicians which he could easily obtain.

If he wants protection. If I'm the only one who thinks that if his arm is still feeling good the desire for ring may be enough motivation to contribute IF he is able, then so be it. But as I've said we're a long way from that happening. I never thought he'd be traded any way by the deadline when many were sure it was happening. So it's not like this latest report shocked me like it's shocked so many who trusts the those reports are accurate.

I don't know if it will ever reach that point to know for sure.

Crochet would just say he leaves that up to his agent and reiterate what he's already said. He wants or prefers to stay on his SP routine. They could ask if you are traded and you stay healthy enough to pitch in the playoffs would you do it without an extension? But I'd expect him to say Yes I want to win a ring. Or maybe we'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

I'm not getting into what an extension would look like. We're a long way from finding out the truth. 1st Crochet has to be traded by the deadline. 2nd we have to see how he's handled by his new team. 3rd he has to be still pitching if the team that acquired him makes the playoffs. If he makes it that far then it gets more interesting.

That says "desires" .That a big difference from saying he won't pitch without an extension.

I think I read Heymans account was verified by league sources whatever that means but outside of him saying he'll refuse to pitch in the postseason unless given an extension I don't know how true that would be. To me it's been known for a long time he does not want to pitch in relief so that's not new and could be the part that's been verified. Big media like in NY probably has guys who put out info just for the purpose of manipulating the market to put favorable teams in more advantageous positions. I don't believe much of what insiders put out there , especially Heyman.

Then find another guy to trade for who can close. Kopech's available ?

I'm not assuming all these reports are 100% accurate. However if he thinks his health depends on maintaining his SP schedule maybe he could file a grievance that the team is jeopardizing his health . Are you saying Crochet shouldn't be allowed a voice in how he's used if he thinks he's being put in an unhealthy situation ?

Eh we haven't heard from Crochet of his agent that Crochet won't pitch in the postseason if handled the way he wants to be handled. The Dodgers don't need him to be a closer to win their division most likely. But I do think they could use him as an opener , keep him on his SP schedule and see if that's enough rest for him to use him as a SP who can go at least 5 strong innings as a 2 or 3 in the playoffs without an extension. It's a longshot but it all depends on the way his arm feels. He' d have to be more than an opener his last couple starts of the regular season and see how it goes.

And you called me naive for thinking Crochet had a good chance not to be traded because you thought Nightengale was right. The chances always were always slim Crochet would be traded . You didn't need to be an insider to know that. It was going to be a tall task given the ask and his availability being limited for the rest of the season and the playoffs.
