  1. Depends on a lot of things. Bonemer and Cholowsky on the horizon as RH sources of talent. If JR is still around and the resolved CBA didn't help much, which it likely won't being a big market team then it's act like the Rays until Ishbia is owner. Then you can operate differently hopefully. Still have to keep restocking the farm and you already have seen what a massive influx of young talent can do . Mune may be out the door too. So much changes from year to year especially if you find out your talent wants to test the FA waters. Better to trade them and restock the farm especially when it could be years before we see any talent graduate from Latin America. That's a huge part of our talent pipeline that could not be fixed in a short period of time nor is the financial situation ideal when JR is still owner.
  2. Right I'm just thinking ahead reminding everyone of future options. Lot's of names to remember.
  3. Joe Rock was DFA'd the 14th . A's claimed him. That's an open 40 man spot but maybe Urquidy took that spot.
  4. Pretty sure we should hear something today. The 17th was supposed to be decision day with him
  5. That's about right but I don't think pushing Thorpe is in the cards yet. Sandlin is a better option. We may all want to see what Thorpe can do but he needs more reps and endurance.. He knows a lot about pitching and can look good falling out of bed . How many times has Sandlin been yo-yo'd this season.
  6. I think you could put Sandlin in the mix. Cannon too as a long shot. He's pitched better than usual lately though still prone to too many center cut pitches that result in HR's, but he's cut way down on his walks.
  7. They just weren't going to go out on a limb for a rental . Why do that if the asking prices were absurd ? No one else bit on Detmers and some pretty good prospects were given up for rentals. There's no need to try to sabotage your own efforts to rebuild. Detmers screams Samardzija . He tried to get as much as he could for as little as he could. That's not a terrible strategy for a team that is lovable but not even close to a juggernaut. Getz was being Getz like still churning the roster looking for an edge. We've been critical of him since he was named GM and so far it's working out ahead of schedule. Why focus on short term wins that you'd be lucky to end up making the playoffs and winning against your 1st opponent at the expense of real team building headed in the the Ishbia years. I feel like one minute you like what he did and another minute you're talking like 1 more pitcher could've put them in the World Series. Which pitcher did you have in mind who would make a difference ? They've been playing .500 for a few months now. That doesn't scream 1 pitcher away from winning it all. Teams with 15 rookies making debuts advancing very far in the playoffs is a pipe dream. You're feeding the beasts that are saying they should have gone for it only for it to fail and then those beasts laugh and feed like they've been doing. They want the Sox to fail so they can claim victory that they knew they sucked all along. How often have you heard "sucked"or "embarrassing" even this year from them ?
  8. Nope it just says what he's capable of to people who say the Sox don't know how to handle pitchers. Got him back on track with the changeup and voila looked better than he had all year with Seattle . The stuff is certainly there. What do you think so far looking good or a disaster ? or wait and see which had always been my stance since I gave my 1st thoughts on the trade.
  9. And the Sox got Bryan Hudson from the Brewers and he has 1.2 War. But then traded him for cash to the Mets , then got him back when the Mets DFA him. Are we even or ahead of Milwaukee now ? White Sox got cash and the same player back so ahead of the Mets . Fleeced them for Robert too which set up a bunch of other guys being signed and Dominquez helped offset the Castillo salary. Don't forget Shane Smith might still recover. Are you keeping your eyes on Gage Ziehl now for future reference. Sox sent him to Boston to get Sandlin and Hicks and pay for Hicks 2/$24M and Red Sox chipped in $8M so White Sox basically paying Hicks $8 a year for 26 & 27. Pretty cool that the salary dump is turning out to be worth it. Aso we never did find out about the 2 players to be name later the Sox were supposed to receive and then 1 that was supposed to go to Boston did we ? It's a dizzying array of moves and that's just the tip of the iceberg over the last couple years. So still don't see a point. Some work some don't. Pretty hard to keep track of it all unless you want to pull one up just to make some strange point that sometimes players you trade do well for a little while as do players you get back in trades ?
  10. True and that was my concern about the trades in general if any of them didn't move the needle much. But the Castillo trade does since he has shown that he is still very capable of being very good. But it also may not move the needle much if Davis Martin can't get his act together and the Sox messed with a guy like Fedde who was actually having success to accommodate Schultz. If you just look at his stuff I lean towards it not being an aberration now that he's back to throwing his change up against LHH. But this is how it is when you are still searching for a team to win at a better rate than the Sox have been hovering at for 2 months now. It's hard to get all the pieces firing on all cylinders when you have so many guys coming up and still roster churning looking for guys to step up . It'll work and then it won't and someone you had for a brief time clicks with another team. Mead goes but Peters stays. Sox claim Bryan Hudson from Brewers, Sox trade him to the Mets for cash, then the Mets let him go and the Sox reclaim him all in a 7 month period. Mead traded for Boston SMith. Boston Smith helps get Castillo. Originally Mead (along with Duncan Davitt and Ben Peoples) was traded by the Rays to the Sox for Adrian Houser who was released from the Rangers and the Sox signed for $1.35M 5/20/25. Duncan Davitt got us Joey Bart. Joey Bart getting injured led to claiming Jake Rodgers. Round and round we go. They also got Shane Smith and Mike Vasil in the Rule 5 both were good for them last year and non factors this year.
  11. I'm a huge Chicago sports guy. Love the bears, Bulls, Blackhawks and Sox. Followed them all since I was very young but Sox are easily my favorite out of them all. Maybe I've mellowed as I age but I feel very lucky to have seen a Superbowl winner , all the Bulls and Blackhawks championships and even a White Sox Championship. That's 11 Champions ! (12 if you count the Cubs. Growing up it was like Chicago didn't have a Champion since the 1961 Blackhawks and 1963 Bears both of which I was too young to remember and the Bears broke the ice in 1986 As a sports fan and Chicago fan in particular., I feel so blessed. I just can't get all worked up about the bad things although I do save most of my ire towards ownership and my worried, scared and scarred , very critical fellow fans.
  12. If pitched the best game of his wonderful career to this date doesn't say pretty good trade I don't know what will.
  13. Grayson Fitzwater (13th) round is tearing it up at Kanny but he'll be 23 Jan. 5th.
  14. What makes you think that (#1) ? In general I would say he has a lot of input but like all things Sox he'll get stat data and who needs rest data so it's collaborative. Do you think Getz has a role ? I know we all question lineups periodically like I did when Doyle was in there against LHP when he has reverse splits. But I do understand with new hitters you might want to get them in asap and make them feel like they'll have a role here.
  15. There will always be ultra negative people based on anything they can find wrong. And there is always something to find wrong in every game and in Sox history. Some just are wired to be meatballs because they hurt deeply inside. Poor babies.
  16. Keep going you'll win the day with all the likes I give you.
  17. Whoever posts here most in celebration of the win I will give a like . Not one of the bad ones.
  18. Take That Kitties !! I was going to post something else about how much I liked that post so what I actually wrote doesn't correspond oops . Who cares Sox win !!
  19. I'd really like to punch the Tigers in the mouth, figuratively, with a win today .
  20. It makes all the sense in the world if you find out ,which I'm sure the Sox know and I haven't read the rest of the thread to see if this info has been mentioned. In the MLBtraderumors comments section it was said that in games that Romo starts which is 45 games if you include the one he took over for Teel in the 2nd inning, the Sox are 27-18 with 5 shutouts. In the 75 games started by other catchers the Sox are 35-40 with 3 shutouts. I'd start Romo every day after seeing those numbers . Probably wasn't coincidence that Romo started Castillo's 2nd game and Castillo praised him. 9 over .500 vs 5 games below .500 ( in 30 more games)
