The very definition of baseball and being a rookie. You can't get 3 hits every 10 ABs and 10 HRs every 110 AB. Sometime you'll get more, sometime less. Most hit better at home . All hit better without nagging injuries. Sometimes you get a bunch of fat pitches and sometimes you always seem to fall behind in counts or get ahead. Sometimes you get more walks, more hits more HRs . Sometimes you K more, walk less and you hit line drives that get caught. The fan and player both have to stay even keeled , let things play out, get decent sample sizes, be mindful of injuries.

The next time I see you do any analysis will be the 1st. It's always the short term . To successful people 4 years is nothing. The ground is being lain for the future of the franchise. JR is entirely to blame. Give me your list of what Getz has sucked at since he became GM. Is the team not supposed to suck when the franchise bottomed out ? Could he have prevented the record breaking season. Probably but 121 or 110 losses hardly makes a difference except in how loud the fans cry. Has Getz yet traded away a Tatis, Jr or Marcus Semien right before the last rebuild started ? Getz hasnt even been given enough rope to screw things up. He's not being given any money . So all he can do is make some trades , make some good hires and build the infrastructure. Im not on an island here with my views. It's pretty common among people who do independent Sox podcasts that there are good things happening .I am a very well informed fan about things happening. Now of course I'm listening to Gene Watson and Paul Janish and others who only have belief that they are on the right track being interviewed by Chuck Garfien and others on CHSN. But there are examples all over the field of good things going on. To successful people you need a plan if you start at the bottom and aren't getting any money. Watson talked about how Getz came to him and asked him what he thought of Crochet being a starting pitcher . Have you ever even considered that Getz and the people he hired had anything to do with Crochet becoming a Starter, their plan to get him to the top of his game, keep him healthy and then to ultimately make a quality trade ? That was something no fan could've ever predicted happening . How about how the Sox hiree like Fuller and the R&D department not only got Colson refocused on his process and confidence and then as a finishing touch shortly after he was promoted recommended the torpedo bat. What about the huge success in the Rule 5 draft with Shane Smith and Vasil ? Isn't that another example of better scouting and development ? Didn't Vargas and Sosa becoming league average players when they both vouldve continued on their failure projectories mean things are working ? How about putting the rest of the rookies in a nurturing yet accountable and supportive environment to enable them to be productive ? Was that not a good thing happening as an organization? What about Birmingham's 2 straight AA championships ? Is that not a tangible thing that shows they can develop winning players and attitudes ? It's so easy to be cynical when youre surrounded by it. But as executives, and coaches you all want to be pulling on the same rope as far as developing a winning mindset.

Power hitter are K machines. No way of getting around it unless you're Judge . Plus the stipulation was $160M by the OP just for 2026. That likely leaves out Tucker. Might leave out Alonso too even though hes 31 so that's iffy. Schwarber is too old. It's also extreme overkill for anything not player related. It'll be interesting to see what Murakami signs for. I picked him because it would signify a big change in White Sox philosophy . Would likely be their biggest contract ever, getting back in the Japanese market, his youth, power lefthandedness ,and OBP are all areas the Sox should continue to emphasize. Stick him at 1st base and a 3-4 of him and Colson against RHP could be deadly for years. If you want to play in the deep end of the pool you just have to dive in. Every player has things you worry about . That might also mean you get a bargain on a very young FA. Does Alonso at 31 get a bigger contract than the 25 yr old Murakami ?

Of course once again we see a nothing the Sox ever do is good enough answers. I dont know what we got but I'm sure it isn't good enough. I'm not happy whatever they did to unlock Colson and find Shane Smith have 8 rookies perform at decent levels. Let's downplay how huge these things were in scouting and development and demand they spend $160M on computers , software and more people which ,by the way, wouldnt even come close to being $160M . So lazy and unimaginative. Compare what Colson did in his rookie year to Tatis, Jr. Very very similar . Next year it could be Hagen Smith Schultz, Bonemer ,Antonacci, Teel or Quero, Baldwin, Sosa, Vargas , Shane Smith or even Burke emerging as All Star caliber players .There's more development left. Let's make sure the upcoming draft is the has been well scouted and they stick with the the current strategy of getting non prima donna types who love baseball. How bout this. Stick your nose back into the Japanese market and make a play for Munetaka Murakami. He's only 25 and has big power and a high walk rate. He plays 3rd and 1st base. The Cubs seem to be able to get Japanese players so the Sox can too. Need to start evolving things on the player acquistion side of things. The faster the team gets into acting like a big market team on the player acquistion side of things the better. It's the easiest way to win the division most years. You don't need overkill in an area that generally doesn't cost tens of millions of dollars . You just have to maintain and update yearly and get the things like Trajekt machines and modern tech into the affiliates. The Sox are probably still behind the curve but since JR went into estate planning mode Getz has managed put some money into modernizing and R & D . The new facility in the DR that was announced in August 2025 will cost $12M and be finished in the fall 2026 .I'm sure getting everything up to speed the 1st few years would be the most costly but just $10M annually would go pretty far . OK fantasy play time is over but in a few years once the Ishbia's are the new owners this could be a reality .

Getz 2025 Grade: your vote matters.

Still a lot of hurt feelings among those giving out F's. Biggest reason it's an F is 102 losses and failure to heed the "forget 2024" caveat. The OP said asking for that was a fools errand. The last rebuilt was built around everyone calling it a rebuild and most were in favor of it so they accepted the losses and growing pains . Hahn actually spent too much on the 25 man roster during the rebuild and the Sox competed well enough to never get a top 1 or 2 pick like the Astros did a couple of times. Hahn had a lot of years to build infrastructure but if he did he never got any results. Nothing from the DR accept a guy he got fleeced on. As a matter of fact Hahn sabotaged his own rebuild. Look at the WAR produced by both Tatis Jr. and Marcus Semien between 2019-2021 which turned out to be the years the Sox needed them most. 2021 especially when they both put up monster WAR totals. It sucks it all fell apart so quickly. It also sucks JR is currently planning the team to be sold and making sure his heirs aren't stuck with a lot of debt or taxes. But we wanted him to sell an we're lucky the Ishbias are very wealthy and some of you now crying will get to see a new owner who likely will try to make the Sox into a team Chicago deserves. The arrow is pointing up if you have the patience to wait for the calvary to arrive. Maybe by the time the Ishbias take over the team will be hovering somehere around .500 or better. The farm system could be back in the top 10 after the next draft. But it'll probably be a lean few years but the new DR Academy is due to open in 2026 and some of you may be around in 10 years to see Braston Basker play in a White Sox uniform and recall that we 1st heard of him in 2025 . That's already a future $6M spent out of Isbias 2030 pocket ! -

Seriously who and what are can't miss guys ? Even can't miss guys miss all the time. How many can't miss prospects are there right now ? Can you name 12 or so who haven't progressed beyond A ball yet ? Surely it must be easy to name 12 can't missers among so many not yet beyond A ball . -

From what very little I know of Thorpe he seems like a pitcher well aware of his limitations who had reached a very high level despite those limitations. Now him and his coaches will do their best to see if he has what it takes to succeed in the biggest hurdle of all. -

There's massive board debates about everything and many many times the majority opinion is wrong so debate alone means nothing except people usually argue playing odds that injury prone players usually continue that way because they know nothing about what goes on behind the scenes, players determinations, talent, adaptability . Like with Crochet we all knew he had an arm but we also knew he got hurt a lot. What no one knew is that he was maturing physically into this huge strong man while rehabbing and working very diligetly into becoming a starting pitcher . This included the Sox being supportive and working with him to develop him to the point where it was shocking to most of us that he was named the opening day starter and he continued to defy all odds regarding health and adapt and refine his pitch mix . So even when we had all the evidence in the world that the new front office regime might know what they're doing many refused to give them credit for developing him. It was 100 % all Crochet which is of course a sad, ridiculous argument to make. You could argue that prospect success or failure has a lot to do with the player based on the things physical , mental & character traits I mentioned earlier but not 100 % especially when the same people are super quick on the trigger to call the team out for development failures as if its all on them and players are just moldable pieces of clay whose success or failure is solely based on their coaching. The butt hurt of 2024 ran so deep some could never admit the new regime could do anything right or you might get labeled a Getz supporter. God forbid someone who, as a lackey under a previous hierarchy, could actually make good decisions regarding player development and building an infrastructure to help a Crochet ,Montgomery overcome the odds that despite setbacks prospects are not always busts when deemed so by Soxtalk experts. Will it work with every player ? Of course not but if we are going to rip on management that they always suck with scouting and development and doubt that a new regime is any different from the old one under the same owner I'd expect credit to be given when it is due. Sadly most stick to their old tired arguments by just kicking the can down the road of "I need more proof before I think anything has changed" while they still blast everything they can in their ignorant and bitter sight . -

I know you are trying to be fair when you say its a long off season so try not to be critical of others grades and just give your own reasons for your grade. Very commendable even though targeting Caufield to enforce it when Ray Ray in just about every thread is always the most highly critical of posters who look on the bright side often citing us as simpletons being duped by JR or having low standards when its actually just people who see things from a more macro viewpoint and removing embarassment from the equation . He also downplays the structural and cultural changes as costing a small fraction of player payroll and insignificant since the Sox are just playing catchup in these areas . Maybe its not just coincidence that as fans we saw very positives signs from many of our players . Time will tell if things have truly changed but since this is a 2025 grade 1 + 1 does = 2 when adding up structural and cultural changes to positive player development . I havent voted yet but for example I havent seen one person mention all the Tommy John surgeries that greatly impacted pitching prospects and the MLB pitching depth in the organization. Some would argue like earlier in the season and without any proof , that it's an indictment of pitching coaches policies or a bad medical staff. Without proof of anything more diabolical going on I'd have to go with bad luck. Most of those injuries happened in 2025 although some may have happened before the calendar flipped on January 1 so I considered them to be part of 2025. There also differences in how big some of the positives are viewed moving forward. Colson going from a downward spiraling minor league career and to many here as a bust to what he became for the Sox this year was HUGE. The Rule 5 pickups of especially Smith but Vasil too was HUGE. The development of all the graduated top prospects and Vargas, Sosa and even the hit /power tool of Baldwin were pretty big too. Micro view is 102 losses = F. The Pope being a Sox fan and Ishbia men still on the horizon is good too but I can't give Getz credit for those things. -

Not sure what this even means. With prospects position players are more highly valued than pitchers and it's not even close. With teams needing a large boost to their rotations a true ace like Verlander or Bumgarner can be a difference maker but those guys are truly exceptional . To get to that level of reliability you have to have a good record of health and success. You can name a lot more current very good to great hitters than you can pitchers who can go deep into games and truly dominate . The chances of getting a Verlander or Bumgarner type post season run become less every year. Dominant lefthanders like Crochet, Sale and to a lesser degree Rodon all had quite different paths. Sale stayed pretty healthy while Crochet and Rodon were written off as too injury prone . Most people were OK with drafting Hagen Smith as another one of those lefties the Sox have had success with until his development path didnt stay linear but most probably wanted a hitter. Since Tommy John surgery is so prevalent in the development of pitchers position players are deemed as much more valuable. I highly doubt the Red Sox have the rest of the horses necessary to make a postseason run not when Romy Gonzalez still is getting crucial PT. Crochet may never get the chance that Sale did. And Sale wasn't dominant in his 1 World Series Start in 2018 but he was as a 1 inning reliever in game 5. His postseason performances in general have been mediocre at best. Rodon didnt hit it big until he was 28 after many injury prone years and getting non tendered then resigned by the Sox . -

Goodbye 2025 season . Hopefully you will be remembered as the year that started the careers of 4 future All Stars and as the 1st step on the path to a new era of baseball. You young fans have a great era of Sox baseball to look forward to. We will have the best owner in White Sox history, which isnt a large mountain to climb. -
