Sox were 1-5 and the starters had been sucking. He started both games and the Sox won both. Maybe that move + plus home cooking settled down the team. Why would you be resigned to him not starting ? He still just 23 . You might be right but you might not be. We still need to see him pitch consistently well in whatever role they put him in . I just want to see more Sox pitchers putting up zeros.

You could be right. WAR does its best to calculate the impact of someone like Kirk out of the lineup vs. his replacement playing but yikes , 2 bad throws that cost 3 runs and a bad baserunning play getting gunned out at 3rd with Vladdy on deck and 2 outs is sad. He had to have picked up -.2 or -.3 WAR in less than 2 games .

Having more relatively inexpensive contracts not longer than 2 years means he's saving around $100M per year ( current player payroll vs $185M payroll ).

If you follow this club closely and the draft picks we knew the hitting was going to be ahead of the pitching. Even though Schultz and Hagen Smith didnt set the world on fire last year you knew they still had room to grow .Plus McDougal and Oppor showed tremendous growth. It's coming together bit by bit. It would help to have Shane Smith show up soon.

Bad baserunning by Vargas turns into good fortune. I was thinking no way he throws Acuna out hed be better off looking to catch Vargas rounding 3rd. I like it ! Insurance runs.

Its important to win on all levels.That means you have good things going on moreso than losing. Thats why I loved seeing the back to back Birmingham championship. It builds bonds that you can do it at higher levels. Winning breeds winning.
