Burger ? People liked him because he seemed like a helluva nice guy and was upfront and hinest about how depressed he was. But he never made the impact as a Sox player.
Many of the biggest brains on Soxtalk will still tell you the idea of that trade was the right thing to do even though it ended up a bad trade. But Buger had people who liked him . You, me, many more. Baseball since then covets position players with power.
Maybe greg just meant best ever for such late 1st round pick who had a series of ups and downs that had nearly everyone diubting him and quite a few calling him a bust /bum.
Frank Thomas did nothing but hit from the time he was drafted to the day he retired.Pretty damn good #7 1st round pick !
Any word on why Taylor hadnt pitched in so long ? Seemed like a planned rest without IL- ing him so a pitcher short during the losing streak .
Edit Forgot he got the loss in the 11th inning against Seattle 8/7 but before that his last appearance was 8/1.
Why wouldnt he be ? That's the plan. The longer you keep him the more likely he wont ever get traded.
Even finishing with a .725 OPS is an uphill battle. August and September he needs to stay almost as good as he was in July .
Its not a given that keeping him will pay off. That still has long odds. He has to stay healthy, hit and keep hitting. A few more dingers would certainty help. He's not going to keep hitting near . 400.
There is room for criticism and this tweet where he seems to be just being factual.
You could do what Nightengale does better than he does if you had sources.
