What Happened?

Featured Replies

In 2021 Tim Anderson was the talk of the town and had been hyped up as one of a select few that would usher in a new generation of baseball. A new generation for youthful players putting their unique mark on the field and a new generation of fans.

He was on boxes of cereal, on video game covers, and play with electric confidence that was highlighted on a national stage.

And then he was caught cheating on his ( pregnant? ) wife. Spaghetti dinners after he hit bombs surely stoped. His average fell through the floor at a scale whereas he was literally the worst hitter in the league.

The team who drafted him kicked him to the curb and he took his depressed average with him to Miami. Sixty five games into that season, he was released by one of the worst teams in baseball.

Last year the Angels took a chance on him and by this time in May, he was already told to pack his bags.

So, in this episode of Investigative Baseball we ask… what happened to Tim Anderson?

Is he sitting at home weeping into the back of puppies who he changes out every few weeks once that “new puppy smell” wears off?

Is he growing tomatoes at scale to make his own spaghetti sauce? Offering himself up as a male gigolo?

Actual information is allowed as is realistic speculation. Have at it Soxtalk and tune in next week for another episode of “What Happened?”

Some people can handle success others become idiots. It's a story as old as time. And it's likely they were idiots to start with .

Indeed… If you sleep with another woman when you are married, when you have a young child, and when you have a bright career trajectory — you are an emotionless vile arrogant scum bag.

He had an unexpected child with his hoochie mama which destroyed his personal life and confidence to play baseball. The surprising thing is that I don’t even recall that his wife divorced him as a result. The dude‘s hoochie mama was even posting social media videos of him in a car with her while he was married.

But in any case, it’s enough work to handle a planned child, much less a bastard. And it’s in the dictionary so don’t hate. 🤣

I’m not surprised and in a sense I can have an ounce of compassion for Timmy. It’s like a shot glass got spilled and most of the quervo is on the floor type of ounce.

Must be a pain in the ass dealing with two women that value money. Arrogant fool will have a reminder of his poor choices for his entire life.

Imagine the awkward conversations that’ll be happening in about 16 years.

“What happened Daddy?” 😬

On top of the personal life issues, he had some lower body injuries that probably added up. At the ML level, I'd imagine any loss of speed, athleticism, and the ability to use your lower body effectively will make a big impact on performance. TA's whole game was already on a knife's edge when he was good. He relied on his speed to put up some gaudy BABIP numbers. Without his speed and a good base to hit from, his whole game came crashing down.

Reading this brought an image of a Tim Anderson Humpty Dumpty to mind.

The only one who can answer is Tim Anderson. On the other hand, he might be doing well now; it's just not in baseball. He could very well have a good family life and money in the bank.

I don’t think the baby mama thing did anything to him on the field. It probably damaged his legacy as he had moved to the Chicago area and was doing a lot of good community work when this came out. I just think his numerous injuries just caught up with him. He only hit 1 homer his last nearly 1000 plate appearances. With all his leg and hand issues, I just think he was done.

After Jose Ramirez punched him out.

When he came up he was always compared to schoop. I don’t think it’s a coincidence they both had extremely steep cliffs.

A brief retrospective on TA.

He’s a bad reminder of a team that was probably going to win the division at worst for a few years and maybe more but instead it all came crashing down for any number of reasons.

How could I forget! 😆

The off the field stuff was well under way before the punch. But there's no question they both brought his career to a quicker end.

And there were Sox fans who seemed to delight in his downfall.

A babip merchant turned 30.

Arrogance brings spite and humility brings adoration or respect.

Playing while injured repeatedly ruined him. TLR didn't help.

The curse of Howard Ankin. Unfortunately Colson appears to be next.

Lol

you need to get over it. He lives rent free in your mind. If anything, the nose dive the team took as soon as he departed shows how the opposite is true

The team took a nose dive when he took over. It continued when he left.

Right that's why 2021 was their most successful season since 2005 arguably

They played great out of the gate, flopped to .500 in the 2nd half, and were embarrassed in the playoffs. I guess that qualifies as "success" for the White Sox, but things fell apart more and more the longer Tony was there.
