2nd when. I looked it up the other day and the Sox were only .66 DP per game which was 5th best , meaning 25 other teams grounded into more DP per game.

Nice Ken Berry avatar. Only way to catch Houston is put together a winning streak because they aren't going to keep losingand the Sox haven't been doing much of that the 2nd half. -

I don't mind that call at all. The results sucked but it was an attempt to stay out of the DP and there's no way Grandal should have taken that fastball right down the middle. -

No team in the playoffs is going to go too far without some clutch HR games. I'd rather see our guys start hitting them than string together a few singles to eek out runs. Team HR Leader 2021 Season Post AS break Team HR Leaders 1. Blue Jays 1. Blue Jays 2. Giants 2. Braves 3. Braves 3. Giants 4. Dodgers 4. Rays 7. Yankees 6. Yankees 8. Rays 7. Cardinals 9. Astros 7. Dodgers 10. Red Sox 9. Red Sox 19. White Sox 9. Astros 17. White Sox The fact is that in today's baseball in the playoffs it's likely somewhere from 45-50% of runs will be scored by HR's. As you can see from the lists the majority of playoff teams hit a lot of HR's. Since the Sox are among the leaders in team OBP (3rd) and team average (5th) it's the lack of HR's that makes us more likely to lose. The Sox are also 5 least likely team to hit into a DP in case you were thinking the Sox waste a lot of runners by hitting into more DP's than other teams. You especially have to hit HR's against the starting pitcher. Bomb him out of the game with a big 3 run HR before the other team manager start playing match up with his pen. https://www.teamrankings.com/mlb/stat/double-plays-per-game -
Nope we don't . Trades have value beyond immediate results and until it's played out I'd rather not vote on it.

I can agree with some of this like the part about Escobar and giving up too much for Kimbrel but then again if the Sox somehow manage to win the World Series I don't care about what the trades cost since the future value of what was traded has to play out. As far as a RF goes there should be enough thunder in the lineup without every position having a great player. Losing Madrigal was tough. Adding Heuer seemed like an overpay. Madrigal alone should've been enough. I also wonder about how the Sox are valuing Sheets and Burger or even Vaughn. I'm just not one of those guys who is too concerned about having a good team every year. I know how necessary that is to making the playoffs ,which in turn, gives you more shots at the World Series. But if the Sox win the World Series this year or in 22 or 23 I will be very happy about it and 2024 through whatever year won't matter to me.

This to me is the only right answer.

Luis Robert, closing in on one full season statistically

Wouldn't that be wonderful if how he has performed since coming back from injury is the player he is going to be ? Can you imagine if this just isn't some sort of hot streak and he's going to be a .350 hitter with 40 HR's ? He isn't even 100% yet judging by his comments about still feeling pain some times and he slows himself down then. -

Bummer , Kimbrel and Hendriks all looked not just good but great. -
Not the primary factor of course . Only mentioned it because as a young man he may want a 570K salary for being a big leaguer for a year. It would come in pretty handy especially if he blew out his arm again being stretched out in the minors. Maybe the Sox never asked him what he would prefer but I would like to think what ultimately was decided was a collaborative effort that included Kopech's opinion or any worries he had regarding how we was going to be handled.
-
Exactly , Kopech could be in complete agreement with how he has been handled. Sure build him up stretch him out but you don't see those posters griping about him being mishandled offering any insight on how that was supposed to be accomplished because all of that requires knowing what the player wants for his present and his future, and what the medical personnel have to say about it. Maybe he rather be pitching as a reliever in the big leagues now for a chance to win a World Series and getting a bigger paycheck than toiling in the minors and having his season cut short because of innings limits without a chance to pitch at all in the playoffs or World Series.
-
Any time I see someone say how mismanaged pitchers have been I just shake my head. No one can state this for fact. What exactly were the White Sox supposed to do, leave Kopech and Crochet in the minors stretching them out to throw 5+ innings ? How many innings thrown in the minors would that have taken to accomplish and how are those innings managed to still keep him available for the postseason ? Would those guys rather pitch in the minors for peanuts or get a big league salary and contribute to the White Sox and their playoffs run ? Are Kopech and Crochet as concerned about their chances to be starting pitchers as the disgruntled fans are or do they trust the White Sox to do what they can to keep them healthy and ready to pitch in October and in the future as starters ? Until a fan can answer those questions I don't see how anyone can say they were mishandled.
-
Adam ,no one gives you a big contract based on what you say. It's only based on what you do. You can talk the talk but you have to walk the walk. If Rodon's arm finishes the season structurally sound enough that he can pass a physical, the innings pitched this year will enable him to pitch more next year. The Sox got way more out of him than anyone expected for peanuts. The Sox will evaluate him the same as other teams and weigh the risks and rewards. How that turns out is anyone's guess
-
I agree . It's a unity thing, a way to connect the fans to each other and the team. Nothing wrong with that.
-
It's not like Hamilton is an integral part of any playoff plans. It's 50/50 he even makes the playoff roster. If there was ever a perfect time for a suicide squeeze that was it. I suppose he could've popped it up into a DP but I'm just being selfish. I wanted the win so I could keep making the game thread.
-
I've seen a lot of people in the threads mention players getting drunk after winning the 1st game. I would highly doubt it. They knew for a long time they'd win the division and they know it isn't the ultimate goal. Sure a couple of guys might've had a drink of champagne but drunk, no way, and the guys who were playing probably didn't drink at all.
