IL'd once, extra rest between starts. 12 days in July which coincided with the AS break. A couple of extra days between July 29 start and August 7 start. Then August 7 start and next one was August 26 so 18 days between those starts. He's supposed to start in Detroit after the Texas series so Sept 17-19. Just seems like they want to keep his time between starts to around 9-10 days in the hopes he can pitch more often in the playoffs.

You made that thread because I kept getting in arguments with people when I proclaimed he had to be shut down at some point in the season ! Then you disappeared from the Rodon IL'd thread when he was IL'd in August with shoulder fatigue when people started saying you could see it coming from a mile away and I called them out about the poll results. Of course then it became a war of semantics about some silliness "Should he be shut down" and "do we expect the Sox to shut him down" are two completely different things ." I agree with you . Everything was above board and I did not see your comment when I wrote my comment disputing that claim by one poster that he isn't healthy. He's getting rest , he's been pitching well and only going 5 innings lately. When he showed signs of fatigue they gave him extended rest in August . Everyone involved wants to see him do well and stay healthy through the post season. It benefits no one for Rodon to be injured.

He's not 100%. What player is? He's been pitching well. And he will pitch. Why do you insist on proclaiming him not healthy ? With all the rest they are trying to keep him healthy and if he wasn't healthy they would prevent him from pitching and so would Rodon and Boras. No one wants to jeopardize his future or future payday by pitching him went he isn't healthy.

He's not toast going by results. He's had 2 starts in August and 2 more so far in September opponents were Cubs, Jays, Pirates and Red Sox. Exactly 5 IP each game. 20 total, 26 K, 4 BB, 4 ER. If it was really really obvious he is hurt the results aren't showing it. If that's all he can give in the playoffs I will happily take it.

You're already in , we all know that and so do you TLR otherwise your lineups would be stronger, so time to push for HFA and ramp this team up for the playoffs. What's the longest winning streak since the All-Star game? 3 ?

I was wondering what thread would pop up in response to tonight's loss.

When you hit pretty damn well against RHP (aka the strong side of a platoon) it's really hard to dump a guy like that. On the weak side of the platoon you have Vaughn, who has the same FWAR as Goodwin in way more AB's, and his numbers against LHP are slightly better (165 wRC+ vs 140 wRC+) than Goodwin's against RHP. Then you throw in Sheets who has 9 HR's against RHP which is 2 more than Vaughn has in less than half the AB's. So you have 2 guys who hit better than Vaughn from the strong side . Vaughn may play better D, which is kind of debatable ,so who stays and who goes for the playoffs ? I have no idea what is going to happen and I wouldn't want to have to choose. Throw in Engel who can't stay on the field and maybe they just go with him in RF for the playoffs. Then it's a question of who do you have DH , the guys who hit well from the strong side or the guy who hits better from the weak side ?

I agree there's not a damn thing wrong with his AB's against RHP. Batting average, OBP, Slg. , and OPS all good.

I don't think anyone wants to hear you sticking up for Goodwin. I thought of saying the exact same thing but even with that big positive . He's basically in the Kimbrel, Hernandez, Wright kennel.

I'm a bit more bothered that Leury didn't run. There's no way with Hamilton on third that they throw through. And that puts the winning run on 2nd.

We'll find out in the playoffs.

I'm not sure the Sox have even attempted any steals since we've been in "keep everyone healthy" mode.
