  1. Just as I suspected because of Anderson's lack of walks and errors he didn't make the top 10. Stacked position for sure though. I know many think bWAR is a joke but I actually prefer it over fWAR. This is case once again like with ABreu where the lack of walks and fielding give the impression that Anderson is not a top 10 SS. There is way too much distance between sabermetric stats and traditional stats now. When a batting and RBI champ can't qualify as being Top 10 in the majors something is wrong.
  2. I just don't think there's any reason to bargain hunt. The longer you wait the less likely you are to find the one who truly fits your needs. They are all probably bargains right now. At this point in time anyone hoping to be a starter has little hope. I look at Mendick much the way I look at Keuchel,Bumgarner Ryu . Keuchel was the cheapest of the bunch but you can't say for sure he will be less valuable then the other 2. Mendick is Keuchel . He is likely to be just as valuable as anyone in his limited role. I actually wouldn't be surprised if he is capable of equal WAR as Madrigal. His versatility and willingly to do anything the Sox say to be up with the big club might actually be hurting his chances of being more than he appears to be. Of course he might not ever be as impressive as he was during his brief call up too.
  3. Wait , you bolded one part of my post and then literally went on to say almost the exact same thing as me in the bolded and non-bolded part.
  4. You are probably right however... Let's look at where we are right now. Not a playoff team unless the young starters step up, Payroll is currently less then many thought it would be for 2020. If they do step up and the other young position players do well we are sitting pretty for 2021 . Yeah we will lose some relief pitchers and have more expensive arbitration raises but the Sox could afford Betts, There's no doubt about that at all. Actually going after him and then signing him is still a extreme long shot and the Sox more than likely settle for a lesser option if Mazara stays the Mazara we all know and ummm love. More than likely we will still be looking for another high quality starting pitcher unless Kopech, Cease. Rodon or Lopez show a lot more than just incremental growth.
  5. It seems more apparent that with every passing day the Sox are going to go with what they already have or just wait everything out and see who's left over and desperate. They could easily sign any one of those guys right now. I'm not sure where payroll is now but it seems to be under the $120M many were saying where it would be . What this means I have no idea. Do they wait a little longer and sign a few more guys to minor league deals ? Are they saving to see where they stand at the trade deadline ? Perhaps they are currently in negotiations with a utility guy, reliever or any of the other players left. Many here had hope payroll would be higher but RF had no clear cut option and better starting pitchers either were extremely expensive or might not provide any more than Keuchel will and were more expensive also; There are still over close to 15 FA's who put up between a 1-2 WAR last year . 5 of them are classified as 2B, a few of whom are utility guys. Others are Andrew Cashner, Jason Vargas, Russell Martin, Puig, Maybin, Pence, Pillar, Jarrod Dyson. There's still Colin McHugh and Taijuan Walker as possibilities who had under 1 WAR.
  6. Still, though, the Betts rumors are heating up quite a bit. Bloom got no biters on Price so they have to do something. No one seemed to be in a hurry to help them out. I wouldn't expect too much for Betts . Probably not Verdugo .
  7. If you have video and audio of your Pacer appearance I'd include that too. They will still audition you I'm sure but a video will get you taken seriously faster.
  8. Maybe on the bases he gets good jumps . In the outfield he doesn't, he admitted he was bad at it but says he's been working on it. There might be a statcast measure of reaction or jump time for OF's and Eloy's was bad.
  9. It really depends on how Moncada Eloy and Robert do this year or even Mazara . There's alot of slightly proven but mostly unproven power but such high ceilings that Betts may not be needed but an upgrade like Springer might be great. If Mazara shocks the world and hits 35 bombs they might try trading him or try extending him. I'll wait til the end of the season to make up my mind.
  10. No it's not crazy at all and frankly you could go even higher in batting average and OBP . As far as what I expect, just being a little more serious while he still maintains the fun he seems to be having. He really does need to improve his fielding but I won't ever expect that to be on the plus side but I'd like him to be average. Hitting I expect him to be more selective and see if the launch angle thing is right for him. He's a lot like Mazara in that he's a line drive hitter who likes to use the whole field and likes to extend his arms so he's vulnerable to low and away because he likes going to the opposite field. But he hits too many hard hit balls for ground outs . Once he starts learning to lay off certain pitches and take more walks I think he's capable of huge power numbers. He's already a very good mistake hitter so force the pitchers into making more mistakes and not go after pitchers pitches.
  11. Thank you . I always do that, mute for moot. Only one grammar, typing, forgot something thing is pretty good for my posts. That's why you always see my posts edited. If I get corrected enough, it'll stick eventually. But I am not Steve Stone with many followers. I doubt even one person follows me here, nor do I represent the White Sox . Here I can look drunk, high, ignorant, unrefined, angry, mean or stupid and not worry about it. Not sure he has the same luxury.
  12. You consistently said $4M in at the least 5 posts and also a 3 yr. extension between $12-15M one time and $4.5 per year for 2 years. But I did see one where you said between $3-4M.
  13. According to the latest Future Sox article isn't Dunning still regarded as our #2 pitching prospect ? I'd call that a top prospect.
  14. Yikes, but not for sounding like a dick. It's not that mean sounding. Every one of the 3 sentences had errors in them. It's like Bruce Levine is creeping in. The chance for the arbitration money ( the 6.2M he mentions) has long passed so no sense talking about it since he was a Free Agent and could've signed for much less. That makes the rest of his post mute since , in theory, he could have produced for a reasonable price. 1st sentence I know what he meant but I have no idea if it's a question or what. It's just very poorly constructed . After that "he'd" instead of "he's" and "if" instead of "is" .
  15. Why would you be surprised ? It's well known you liked Yolmer but also that plenty here told you he wasn't worth $5M or even $3M. You had to be clinging pretty tightly to that Yolmer belief to be surprised the Sox want more than just a glove for a backup. 2nd base was the most crowded infield position available in Free Agency. There are just too many left for all to get good offers, The Sox still have a choice among some decent options for a 2nd base/utility guy. When you move into a new house some things get thrown away and the Sox are moving from the outhouse to the middle class housing at the least.
  16. Stone sounds like my echo machine. I've been saying no to Puig and Zobrist forever . Holt was one of the first guys i wanted at the start of the off season and have recently suggesting Miller too or Flores if he's still around.
  17. I suggested a month or so ago that if they were planning on giving Nomar AB's against lefties that they stick to guys who pitch up in the zone . Nomar already too much of a GB hitter and K machine against lefties to give him any more.
  18. This is good stuff. We've been missing a lot of tech-talk from those in charge making us think that if they can't throw the lingo around that things aren't happening. Shirley is going to be liked around here. Might be time for a Shirley thread given this recent info and his quotes from Soxfest instead of using this old thread.
  19. Yea Senzel better be an above average fielder if I'm going to see all this love for him. Same age as Mazara. Lots more years of control though of course . But but but getting Senzel is rebuilding team move . We are in our window now .
  20. I know . I'm just wishing out loud for one place I can find a lot of Sox info instead of bookmarking 50 different places something like 2020 Sox articles from online newspapers, blogs ,sports websites, twitter, TV stations websites, FanGraphs, MLB Trade Rumors,White Sox,com etc. There are so many. Of course some of that stuff will be repeated in hot topic threads but a lot is just fun stuff like the links I posted where a separate thread just takes up space on the front page for maybe less than a page of responses before it dies or opinions on our favorite or least favorite bloggers or tweeters. Something like your one stop spot for everything White Sox. I think it would generate more traffic here and the links would generate more traffic for the other websites. Maybe a creative person could make their own website for something like that . Probably make some money doing it. Imagine a place like that for every MLB , NHL, NBA and NFL team. Some type of app too like (Your team) Consolidated.
  21. This isn't everything Soxfext related but some of it is because of the increased coverage of the Sox during Sox fest. I always wondered why a Sox fan website like Soxtalk never has a pinned thread for news , blogs and articles about the Sox. Something for pics, links etc. I know anything that strikes someones fancy can be made into it's own thread but there are a lot of resources on the internet for Sox related news and as much as I scour the net looking for it, a busy week can go by and I fall behind. NBC sports Chicago is always good if you have their app or go to the website for Sox stuff to catch up on particularly around Soxfest. https://www.nbcsports.com/chicago/white-sox/yasmani-grandal-effect-real-and-its-already-happening-white-sox https://www.nbcsports.com/chicago/video/andrew-vaughn-wants-wild-thing-no-99-1989-film-major-league Could it be a trend starting with the Abreu 79, Robert 88 and now maybe a Vaughn 99 ? The High Numbers Squad . https://www.nbcsports.com/chicago/white-sox/eloy-jimenez-has-high-praise-luis-robert-hes-going-be-next-mike-trout https://www.nbcsports.com/chicago/video/cubs-are-nomar-mazaras-new-favorite-team-beat Some of these videos from Soxfest are funny like Moncada answering a question about Abreu being a leader and a big brother by saying : "Because he's old !" Grandal sitting between Eloy and Mazara and they get asked who is going to hit the most HR's ? Grandal points to both Eloy and Mazara but also says the question should be who is going to get the most walks, cuz walks means runs and runs win games. Funny but notice he said it sitting right between 2 guys who need to walk more. That's a leader. ALready a funny gentle nudge about walking more and being more selective. If you watch enough you see Garfien interviewing Sox players as they arrive, Dunning,Kopech, Yoan , Eloy, Timmy,Vaughn
  22. I'm sure they are looking for as much as they can get. But that 2021 player opt out looms large in any potential deal. Pretty odd it was the GM who pushed for the opt out and now it's potential snag in getting the most they can for him. https://www.denverpost.com/2019/10/01/rockies-nolan-arenado-opt-out-clause/
  23. You are right and even though I suggested signing Rendon and moving Yoan to 2nd a while ago they are not moving Yoan either or trading for Arenado .
  24. Hey you know I thought of saying the exact same thing !
