Ha I said making opening day 2021 MIGHT BE A STRETCH. I didn't say it was impossible. Besides it's stupid to bet against something I really hope does happen.I want him to be great like all the rest of us. What I said is just strictly from knowing where he is now to to how far he still has to go. It' senseless to root or bet against the success of our prospects.

What proof ? That only confirms what I said about he prefers not to DH not that he refuses since I already told you he is DHing a lot more this year.

I agree and I am slowly learning more about using using them. I think it's just harder for the older fan to get into the advanced math used for advanced stats than the simpler math required for the old stats. Even the more mathematically inclined still have to put in a lot of time to really understand them which is why they are so misused by the new generation of advanced stats users because not even they take the time to really understand their exact function. Also there are so many new advanced stats that learning about how to use them makes it even more difficult . Batting average , RBI etc have been around 100 years. I'd just like to see if many of the new stats survive the cut in a few years or will they continue to come up with more and more of them to boggle my mind even more . And not just my mind but apparently many of those who use them constantly.

Ha I noticed how well he was hitting last year and was on him when I made a thread about him last year when I noticed he was still in Winston Salem . Glad to see they moved him up a couple of levels since then and he continues to mash. I think the Sox do have their eye on him and will definitely get a call up in September.

You're welcome

Haha At least someone responded, Tough crowd no music lovers ? No one to wish me a happy 4th in return ?

As is saying Jose refuses to DH is hilariously bad and when asked to prove it .. crickets. Jose has DH'd 26% of his games played this year which is way up from 10% last year. Also didn't he ask you if you thought Vaughn will get any kind of significant time in the Majors in 2020 that you also didn't answer ? Assuming Vaughn gets any significant playing time next year is a long shot. It's also laughable if you think he was comparing Vaughn to Lance Broadway. I know you know he means the Sox have an unsuccessful recent history with 1st round picks. Not a single soul should be thinking Vaughn will spend a large portion of next season with the Sox and I wanted him in Winston -Salem and the Sox started him a level lower at Kannapolis .Even him making opening day 2021 might be a stretch

You are very informed on the topic. But it's my belief that you are one of a few. The rest of the people who throw around advanced stats are are just following a trend for people in their age group. I'm sure you know quite a few people here who are just as informed as you but I think even you might have to admit the advanced stats are misused to a high degree.

LOL we see cromulent often on here but not embiggen . Both are The Simpson's made up words that are finding their way into popular culture in case anyone didn't know that.

I was too . Test him right away . I know everyone says there's no need to rush him but personally I'd like to see him challenged right away. A hot couple of weeks in Kanny or a less then stellar 2 weeks there means nothing since baseball is not really a game where talent can be judged so quickly. Give him more time in WS to see if he can handle. If the can get to AA and produce there for a month then he could be in AAA by May or June 2020.

Those who think we can make the playoffs next year Leury is a valuable piece. He is probably in the middle or near the top of his peak years judging by his stats for this year and the prior 2 years. If Robert and Madrigal play next year then Leury has to be the right fielder while we wait on another OF to develop. The less the Sox spend on FA's the better off they will be. Concentrate on getting starting pitching in FA . Kopech and Cease will need a lot of help in their 1st nearly full seasons. RF might have to wait. I'd try to get Leury acclimated to playing RF for the rest of the season if Cordell can play CF most of the time cromulently. It's time to embiggen Leury.

I don't know if he pitched at any other time in his life but he was signed as an int'l FA as a catcher and only became a pitcher in 2016 or 2017 It must e very difficult to harness that strong arm and get the ball to do what you want to. Even guys who have been pitchers all their lives have problems with that. There's some hope there.

Manfred acknowledged that Rawlings just got better at centering the pill of the ball. Slightly off center even the tiniest bit causes more drag because the ball may wobble more. A perfectly centered pill is more aerodynamic thus less wobble and less drag. Not sure if Manfred can tell Rawlings to use the old technology to make less than perfect centering of the pill. https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/are-baseballs-juiced-mlb-commissioner-rob-manfred-says-centering-of-the-pill-is-partially-causing-home-run-spike/ -

When talking about Eloy's defense I think you have to consider he was just arriving. Even the most talented guys when put into a situation where you are among the best players in the world can have difficulties adjusting. Then he came into a league where he didn't have a feel for any of the ballparks including GRate. He was just getting the feel of the terrain. I don't think he made a big improvement in a short period of time I just think he knows his way around a lot better. If I put you in a room you are familiar with in total darkness you will be able to find things because you are familiar with everything around you. I then put you in a room you have no idea where you are and you don't know if you next step can be into an abyss. Even after many years of being here, game threads are filled with over reactions and landmines that cause me to cringe and get me in the most hot water .. People say whatever they want and often it's in the heat of the moment. There is no perspective and no patience. There really isn't much patience in many sports fans. It's usually living in that moment. We can say hold on, they re young give them time, but what we usually get in response is basically, fuck that, he sucks, now fuck off with that patience bullshit. I mean you can go through game threads last year and find out just who was telling us to DFA Giolito pretty easily but all that is forgotten and those same people are reveling in his brief success. Most I am sure feel no remorse or regret and move onto the next guy they can scream about DFA'ing. -

Yes it is but people become creatures of habit as you well know. Silliness always takes a back seat to something people consider good luck. -

Actually baseball is full of superstitions. Don't step on the foul lines, step on the foul line, don't talk to a pitcher during a start especially a no hitter/perfect game, the rally cap, broadcasters avoid saying the word no hitter or perfect game,Larry Walker wore number 33 and was obsessed with the number ., then there are hundreds of other rituals that players go through/. Wade Boggs always ate chicken on game days, Nomar Garciaparra played with his batting gloves like after every pitch as if he was obsessive compulsive. Barry Bonds kissed his cross he wore around his neck after every HR. David Ortiz did the spit on batting gloves and hand clap. When Roger Clemens played with the Yankees he touched the Babe Ruth statue before every home start. Jason Giambi would wear a golden thong under his uniform to break a slump. ( I kid you not ! ) Stan Musial ate the same breakfast in the same way. He had an egg, then two pancakes, then finished the meal with another egg. The list goes on and on. -
You seem a tad bi-polar here.

Unless you can show me something that said he refuses to do it I'll just go with he prefers not to. Even Jose has to realize that age catches up with everyone and in order to stay there might have to be conditions.

I highly doubt there's any rule that says a player and team can agree to trade him and when he becomes a FA then resign him. They could probably even agree on an amount of money, draw up a contract and the commish couldn't do anything about it. Now his agent might not like the idea because if he's a free agent , maybe you do want to test the market for a little while and maybe get a better offer than the Sox would give. But if Jose really wants to come back after a deadline trade it really is in both the Sox and Jose's best interest. -
Vaughn can't keep up.

Yea but he is a free agent so he can always spend a few months with a contender , maybe Texas , then come right back to the Sox as a FA like he never left. That way we get a player or 2 and Jose too. -
